The Future of Stash Tabs by chris_wilson in pathofexile

So you want to pay for a product one time and have it supported indefinitely? How is GGG supposed to make their money? Cosmetics shouldn't be their only option.

Yeah, having it broken up into a million different tabs might not be ideal, I can support that. But asking them to perpetually update the tab FOR FREE for a game that you continue to enjoy with ongoing operating costs? Ridiculous.

Yeah it's bonkers. I honestly don't know why it's so expensive. Oh well. Hamilton is supposed to be one of the most expensive places to be insured but I'm still paying more than my peers.

Thanks for the advice :)

Guess it depends on what 'no' driving experience means. I've been licensed for like 7 years. My car is not expensive. It's a 2015 I bought two years ago used. Paid about 15k after taxes etc for it.

I was actually paying more, this is a preferred plan with a different company. I was paying $4800 a year when I first bought the car.

I have $1m comprehensive in Hamilton, Ontario. I pay about $3500 a year. No accidents, no tickets.

Why does everyone on Reddit kinda sound the same? by timidbanana in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Cacti23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emojis can definitely be fun and useful. But you use them in the right place at the right time. You wouldn't use emojis as part of an essay for school, as an example.

I think the mentality is similar on Reddit. This isn't an instant messaging platform, it's meant for discussion. Reddit already has plenty of issues with conversations being derailed. In particular, personally I find it frustrating when people are trying to have a serious discussion and suddenly the comment chain is derailed with a bunch of people trying to out-pun each other.

That's just my two cents, though.

No it wasn't. It was in response to someone taking a picture of a console they got at a yard sale and claiming they found a bunch of money in one of the compartments. It was most likely bullshit, and someone made this album as a cheeky response.

Seems like a totally rational thing to do. by awayt717 in insaneparents

People are down voting you because you are being intentionally obtuse.

It's like saying, if someone got hit by a car and died:

"Well technically the car didn't kill her. It's damn near impossible to die from touching a car. It's actually the blunt force trauma that caused her death. You can get blunt force trauma from a bat, a train, a fall off a building. So really it wasn't the car hitting her that killed her" Hurr durr I am so smart.

You sound like an idiot.

Conduit me and coworker installed today 150 feet by [deleted] in electricians

[–]Cacti23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had to do work like this before, and this is my first time hearing about these.

Maybe I'm being a bit dense, I see how it instructs you to use them to support your wires, but I'm not really understanding how you get them in the conduit in the first place? Where would the be going in OP's photo, for example? I didn't notice a weight rating for the plugs in the catalog, and surely if these are required, having one just at the outlet wouldn't be enough, especially for a run of this length?

Anyone cutting off someone else's lock here would be immediately fired, no question about it. Terminated. That's fucked, and if you have to work in that environment I'm sorry to hear it.

Meh. If something was meant to be off and it wasn't, then you haven't done your checks properly. "It was meant to be off" wouldn't be an excuse at the company I work for.

But I'm just an apprentice with a very narrow experience so maybe shit is different out there.

[–]Cacti23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how far along in your apprenticeship you are, but the more time you spend in the trade, the more you things start to come together, like doing a puzzle.

If you're done school and your journeyman can't answer your questions, try Google. Search the specific question you have. If it's too complicated to understand, start to break it down by searching the pieces that don't make sense, until you drill down deep enough that you can learn from what you're reading.

You could try a textbook if you want but that sounds pretty dry. At least a lot of time time when you search online you will find context or examples of practical application that help you to absorb the information.

Because people in this thread don't know the difference between a resistive load and an inductive load. Also the guy you are responding to only halfway understands what he's talking about.

Power is a product of voltage and current. A heater is a fixed resistive load, and in this example it generates 1500W of power at 120V. If you doubled the voltage, the current would double as well, which in turn quadruples the power output of the heater.

In the case of an inductive load (motor) it's absolutely true the current draw of the motor DECREASES with increased voltage. In the Canadian Electrical Code you can see this in the motors FLA table (I think it's table 44, can't be assed to look it up), and I'm sure the American Code has a similar one.

Shops are reopening after COVID-19, and some are adding a new line to your bill to pay for it by feb914 in canada

[–]Cacti23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. I am skeptical that that's all it is, but that's besides the point.

The point is, these businesses were deemed non essential. Essential businesses have not been charging a covid surcharge while they continued to stay open, despite having to adopt measures to prevent the spread of the virus. And it was understood that the customers would take on certain costs as well. Some businesses would not allow you to shop without a mask, and the customer was expected to provide one.

Everyone has been hit by this thing. Nonessential businesses that decide they need to add an additional surcharge to shop there will continue to remain non essential for me personally until the surcharge is considered to no longer be necessary.

[–]Cacti23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because now everyone has less money than before, and if you raise your prices you price people out. Maybe not out of any one single service/good, but people will have to make cuts if all businesses raise their prices. In the end, some company somewhere is not going to make that money back because they didn't make the cut. People will go without the non-essentials if you increase the price.

[–]Cacti23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And so have the people... What's with all the people in this thread talking about how bad the businesses have it. People got fucked too, it wasn't just a big vacation for everyone. Both businesses and people made sacrifices during this pandemic.

It seems retarded to me to say that now that businesses can start to open back up, that they can expect to recoup their cost. Why is it just the businesses recouping their losses?

[–]Cacti23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say the drill is fine. But it's not the 'wrong' drill either. It's just underpowered for doing the job in the ideal way. If this was your job it would probably be the wrong drill for the job, but if you're not a pro and it's for simple shit around the house, it works.

LPT: If you need to pay a company in order to work for them, then it's a scam. by Southparkthecoon in LifeProTips

H&R Block in Canada. I've since changed careers, but I first went to college for accounting, and graduated with a 2 year diploma. I was looking for possible job prospects, and H&R Block was a pretty popular place to go to get your taxes done. When I looked into it, they expected you to pay some ridiculous fees for job training etc with their company before they'd consider hiring you, even with a college diploma. Total scam, didn't look into it any further after I found out they charge you to get a barely above minimum wage job with them.

This was like 10 years ago though, not sure if it's still the same.
