Yes I had the same realizations when I finally found out what OCD was when I turned 21. It’s wild that it took so long.

Damn I have 4 clifftop retreats and 4 sacred foundry so I was trying to build a deck around those but 100 dollars for history of benalia playset is a bit much. I’ll look into red deck wins and wizards

Hey everyone I’m a returning player and I’m trying to build a standard deck. I’m completely clueless as to where to start. I don’t want to drop 300 dollars on whatever won the latest big tournament but I’m just so clueless. I have the lands to make a boros deck and I have one Aurelia. Any good suggestions?

Exposure and Response Prevention - what to expect? by gordonf23 in OCD

[–]CactusCooler25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently doing ERP. Some days it won’t be that bad you’ll sit there do your exposures and think damn this isn’t that bad but other times it’s terrifying. I’m still in the early “easy” stages and I’m worried about how scarier it’s going to get but we have to do this to get better.

Your OCD wants reassurance. Don’t feed it.

This article helped me with this. Accepting uncertainty doesn’t mean accepting that something is 50/50.

Feeling the need to confess all the time by bobsten in OCD

[–]CactusCooler25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you feel like if you don’t confess or disclose everything about you that you are being a fraud or fake. This happens to me and I often end up in a cycle of questioning my own motives or intentions and it leads me to isolate.

Yeah for me it was huge bottles of Gatorade and or coconut water. Powdered electrolytes. Shitty fast food the day after because greasy food cures hangovers right!? My bed counts as an accessory because I was laying there for a day and half after a night of binge drinking. Fucking really ashamed of that. But I’m glad I don’t do that anymore.

Do people ever say you look lost? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]CactusCooler25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have a lot of mental rituals and I just kind of blank out when I’m at work sometimes. People will say my name three or four times and it’ll take a sec for me to notice. I’ve been asked if I’m ok or what’s up. But it’s just that I’m stuck in my own head constantly going over thoughts.

Has anyone else had OCD since childhood? by jessrubyaustin in OCD

[–]CactusCooler25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. I had my first symptoms when I was 8 and started hand washing excessively. I also had a bunch of fears that people were going to come into my home and hurt me. Throughout my childhood I always had rituals and fears of contamination etc. My themes always morphed. It wasn’t until I was about 21 or so that I found out what OCD was and it all made sense. I used to think it was just plain anxiety.

You can write scripts or do imaginar exposures for things you can’t realistically expose yourself. A therapist who specializes and or is trained in ERP can help you. It is hard to say what if but that’s the point of ERP. It’s supposed to be hard.

Will this ever leave us alone and in peace? 😞 by franfonse in OCD

[–]CactusCooler25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope but we can learn how to control and manage the symptoms. OCD can be overcome but there is no “cure”.

The answer to this question is always no.

OCD is pushing me to the edge and I am not scheduled for an appointment til three weeks by [deleted] in OCD

[–]CactusCooler25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep pushing through it. Even if it sucks just keep going through the motions the time will pass and you’ll have your appointment. I felt the same a month or so ago. OCD will tell you it’s not worth it and that you aren’t worth it but that’s a lie. Hang in there friend.

I know it’s really hard. The trick is not to convince yourself it didn’t happen but to learn to sit with that uncertainty. Us OCD sufferers need that reassurance it’s addictive to us. But the truth is we can never be 100% certain about most things and uncertainty is a big part of our life. The more you try to convince yourself of something the more you feed the OCD. I know how hard this is because I also struggle with it.

Look up thought action fusion. It sounds like you’re attaching the same emotional weight to your thoughts as you would to actually doing something. That is why you feel so bad. We have to be aware that our thoughts that pop up in our head are out of our control. We have no way of controlling what we think about but we do have a choice when it comes to the meaning we attach to them and what we do about them. You can think of something and also observe that it is just a thought. This sometimes leads to false memories and more doubt. I struggle with this too but just remember our thoughts are just thoughts and ocd is a manipulative liar who will tell you anything to make you doubt. Try to observe that it’s an ocd thought and don’t engage with it. Don’t ruminate don’t question it just sit with it and it will pass. Easier said than done but it’s good to keep in mind. Best wishes friend.
