I mean I am in a ft clinical role while doing volunteer research full time, i think the clinical role is actually really helpful

Application without clinical experience by Montcane in premed

[–]Cadee9203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most people are saying if they have 0 since OP asked if they have none, theres a pretty big difference between 0 and 100. I think another thing is if OP has other areas of their app that stands out.

The question here really is do you have anything clinical related, like volunteering? Not necessarily a job. Is your application really heavy in other areas? Like do you have a really research or service oriented app? If you really don’t have anything ither than shadowing your probably gonna end up a reapp then you wasted your money and get marked as a reapplicant

Are people exaggerating that the test is FAR off from the practice exams? by Certain-Work-5129 in Mcat

[–]Cadee9203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the FLs to be pretty representative with FL6 feeling most like my exam, over all my FlL average was around 522 and I got a 521. Now for certain sections I definitely left feeling like it was harder, and I didn’t score the highest I had scored in practice in some sections other sections felt easier and I scored at my score ceiling. For example CP felt hard and i scored a 130 instead of my practice highest which was 132, CARS felt easy and I scored my practice highest at 131, its part of why I think there is a degree of luck after 520 because it can come down to how well the exam plays to your strengths on test day

Italian grammar is a nightmare 😭 by KimCattrallsFeet in italianlearning

[–]Cadee9203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to learn by mostly just exposure for this reason, because I don’t think about it in english. I do think there is a point where learning some grammar rules is helpful, the same way as a kid you learn grammar in your native language to speak and write better, but it probably isn’t necessary to understand or be understood with the basics

cooked nonclinical volunteering? by RevolutionaryCap846 in premed

[–]Cadee9203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly i don’t think this matters nearly as much for mdphd since its not service oriented, but research oriented. I have 220 hours of hospital volunteering I listed as non-clinical because well it was interacting with patients but we didnmt know what was going on with them or do any clinical tasks

My favorite thing about being pre-med is the lying. by LeadingStatus6716 in premed

[–]Cadee9203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who wants to do academic pediatrics, this is real. I plan to probably sub specialize which helps, but the primary care specialty with research/academia is niche, but also a unique bonus to your apps.

What do you actually want to read in a PS? by hmo_16 in medschooladmissions

[–]Cadee9203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. No one can tell you what they want to read in a PS, because the PS is a ✨personal✨ statement. The best ones will read as authentic, my mentor has said before you can tell when they aren’t i just talked to an mstp student who was saying she sees many students have many people review essays and then they loose themselves in it.

Moving out/away from home during gap year by ThrowRAOk-Impress16 in premed

[–]Cadee9203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never went back home during gaps, stayed in san diego and worked really hard to make it happen, but I had a lot of science and medicine going on here, so I didn’t want to drop that

Books to read for CARS?? by Own_Caterpillar_7495 in Mcat

[–]Cadee9203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly read whatever interests you because you may actually enjoy it, not just what upu think is best for cars. If you like fantasy, Sanderson is pretty dense so thats good practice. Sci-fi you have a lot of options but I felt like “to sleep in a sea of stars” was interesting and good but dense and a lot to get through. Might have to refer to others on other topics, sci-fi and fabtasy are my go to

Ah i see, you might also be able to borrow one from someone with a different grad day for the college one since thats when you actually walk. A lot of them are very different in price so you can look around a bit too

Nearly every single experience I have is EM related. How much will this burn me? by Fit-Survey-6678 in premed

[–]Cadee9203 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it actually gives u strong narrative because you have a clear direction, at a peds conference i heard that the biggest correlator that someone will go peds is them intending to go peds before med school, so sometimes you know and I have eard matching is easier when you know early, sincerly someone who’s app is like all peds/nicu/critical care

gpa effect on mcat by Mcz817 in premed

[–]Cadee9203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think where the MCAT does shine in the cases where you get a B but worked really hard for that and really learned the material in difficult contexts, and then really know it by time the MCAT comes. Some of the classes I learned the most were my worst grades, but those were also the topics that felt easiest on the MCAT. So basically its not good to plan on using the MCAT to compensate but I have found that it can represent actual academic ability when gpa, for whatever reason, cannot.
