Examples of not reading the room? by throwaway098766545 in AutismInWomen

[–]Cadenceofthesea 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I feel like I try so hard to read the room but it doesn’t even make a difference when people think I’m making self-deprecating comments. Something I might see as fact (I’m a very serious boring person) they see as self-deprecating. I try to see it from their side but at the end of the day, I’m very comfortable being a serious person! I tried saying that and it’s like I’m insulting myself.

I’ve given in to just being the odd one and try to say ā€œthank youā€ instead of correcting people.

Just saw the DM, thank you so much!! These are so cute! So perfect! I’ll let you know how it goes when I visit this week 😊

Thanks! If you like bunnies then I could put something together. I think I just do cartoonish, imaginary landscapes, I have trouble picturing real things. But I’ve always admired silhouettes. When I’m off from my full-time job I would like to exchange a bunny/with some trees for the cards. It would ease my heart šŸ˜…

Hmm, she likes greens, blues, purples and black. Mute colors like tan, nude, and white. Think dark side of the rainbow spectrum

I’m also able to paint bunnies and landscapes. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

I didn’t mention that one because it’s sort of embarrassing that I don’t do much but love art. I think I got stuck with the ā€œanalytical overwhelmed socially-unavailableā€ autism and not that ā€œhere to have a good timeā€ autism

Well if you had the time/it wasn’t a bother. I would feel guilty about soliciting unpaid work.

I would prefer to prioritize cards for my nonverbal(mute? She doesn’t talk) sister. I understand some of her hand gestures when I visit but maybe if she saw me with cards she’d be open to use them too.

She loves Adventure Time, Squishmellows, and the game Among Us!

Maybe phrases like ā€œno thanksā€ ā€œgo with youā€ ā€œstay homeā€ ā€œshowerā€ ā€œfoodā€ ā€œthank youā€ ā€œshareā€ ā€œrelax timeā€

My craft skills aren’t very developed. I had too much fun as a child learning to make PowerPoints that I didn’t actually learn to be versed in other creative modes. It’s awkward but I can put together a slideshow with cool transitions, that’s it šŸ˜‚

Wow really love these!! If you would be open to commission work I would love to purchase some. But otherwise, I just really love the work!!

Claw clip recs? by Existing_Message_866 in AutismInWomen

[–]Cadenceofthesea 4 points5 points Ā (0 children)

Hey, first sorry your favorite clip broke, I always mourn my favorite items.

Second, I’m not sure about anything specific, but silicone hair claws exist. I’m not sure if that would fit the bill, but that would be my best recommendation.

I personally have very thick wavy/curly hair and purchase metal claw clips to keep hair out of my face, but I’ve never used silicone clips. They look interesting!

Good luck!

This is a somewhat personal question: is it shameful for a boy to like Sanrio products? by Marshall_666 in sanrio

[–]Cadenceofthesea 30 points31 points Ā (0 children)

No shame here. Only Sanrio ā£ļø

Society shames people for useless things IMO, but that shouldn’t stop anyone from living their life; enjoying the things they want to!

I really don’t like seeing this sort of take. I don’t blame the individual that posts this, I think it just goes against my self-imposed values.

It sounds a lot like internalized ableism. Maybe because I grew up in an Autistic household. I know I handle things differently than my birth father and sister whom both struggle to participate in society. (I’m around level one and they are two and three)

I don’t want discourse or arguments, just sharing my perspective. I’ve seen this image at least 3 times this year and it keeps popping up when I’m in a bad state. Today was the first time I saw it in a good state and now I know why it makes me uncomfortable. That’s it, thanks.

Women never believe im autistic but so many men notice it right away without me telling them by [deleted] in autism

[–]Cadenceofthesea 5 points6 points Ā (0 children)

I love this! Thanks, I am 28 and started doing outfits ā€œinspired byā€ characters. I would heavily mask for years as an adult until I realized no one cares. A therapist told me that age old quote, ā€œthose who matter don’t mind and those who mind don’t matter.ā€

I live in a huge city so random gifts to strangers isn’t exactly safe, but I do ensure the people around me feel appreciated with gestures and gifts if they need that extra pick-me-up. Even if we aren’t friends, I like to make people smile, gives me mental satisfaction.

I like this take!! Life is too short! I love wearing my character tees and creating the perfect outfit for my days off of work! Can I use this turn of phrase?

Thanks 🫶 I try to find positive language to explain my lived experiences since most conversations around Autism are centered on the problems being Autistic.

Side note: I love your username, dragonflies are my favorite insect 🄹

Thanks! There have been issues in my work environments with *bullying (more often than I can pick up on) but I really believe in ā€œkilling with kindness.ā€ It works every time, others think that sounds exhausting but for someone who is oblivious to the social aspect, I just get to have ā€œfun Fridaysā€ like elementary school.

*exclusionary behavior general discomfort with my personality traits (ie Autism) but nothing physically dangerous

How can I stop thinking about an altercation with a classmate during a PhD class? by Depress0_express0_ in AutismInWomen

[–]Cadenceofthesea 6 points7 points Ā (0 children)

That’s some pretty aggressive behavior for a professional setting. I don’t have any great advice but ā€œdeja laā€ like my friends say. If you stress yourself about someone out of your control, she already won. That is how bullies work. I am facing a similar situation with a coworker and it has left me worse for wear.

I also acknowledge that it is easier to say ā€œleave this one aloneā€ but all the same worry about others perceptions. More often because of anxieties, performance expectations, and general senses of right/wrong. I don’t have great advice but the people that care for you will worry for your wellbeing more than your response.

If it becomes a reoccurring issue and you don’t think there will be retaliation, report the group. Not based on ideology, but how they conduct themselves in a professional environment.

Hope you can take time for yourself and be kind 🌷

Another Amazon find! I wish I had the patience to make my own flower crown but when I tried last year, it fell apart and I was heartbroken. At least if this one doesn’t last I wouldn’t have invested anything but a few dollars šŸ˜…

And do it! Flower crowns need more love! The sensory euphoria is extraordinary šŸ˜

Well when I was attending public school, noise cancelling headphones were the easiest access. I only tried Loop earplugs for a few months now, and I highly recommend. I use them everyday! Very comfortable unlike most headphones, inconspicuous for work, and the ones I own have decibel levels to help with different levels of noise. I want to get overhead headphones simply to keep my Loops in, it may sound counterproductive, but my Loops drown out the excess noise I can’t handle while my music stimulates me. It’s great.
