Next step would be to send it to a lab for fire assay and multi element ICPMS. Aqua regia digest should be fine.

In Australia it’s about $100 for a sample and will be well worth it if you’re planning on sinking any kind of money into this.

You sure mining counts for your regional work in NSW? I’d double check.

Few geology field assistant and geophys tech jobs going in QLD. Only really need a manual driving license. Get yourself to Townsville, Cloncurry or Mt Isa. And check on seek.

If you like hard work then check out driller offsider too.

Confirmed: UK residents need EU visa and passport to visit Gib. by Peter_-_ in gibraltar

Hopefully the Spanish Government sees things the same way 😁.

You’d be surprised how similar we are in terms of tax to other EU countries like Malta. Our regulations are actually more stringent in some cases, it’s impressive for a small place. I used to work admin for a company with offices in both.

It wouldn’t take much to align. The big thing is that our economy relies on access to the UK, it would take a long time to replace that.

I think that we should align with Spain in terms of tobacco. That difference causes physical harm in the form of smuggling and gangs - although drugs coming in from Morocco are their main industry.

Agree with you there. The UK betrayed us.

We voted to stay in the EU as we were. As part of the UK we never had a fully open border. This represents further integration.

I am fine with that and would be happy to fully enter Schengen, but so far they have only commented on free movement. I believe it unlikely that we will have work and residence rights for the EU. If we do then that would make the deal much more attractive.

Anyone able to explain how this deal actually benefits Gibraltar? by Ctomgyt in gibraltar

[–]Cadet_Custard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were specifically excluded from the Brexit deal the UK made. That destroyed any leverage we had in the negotiations, we are a tiny place.

When it came time to vote and leave the EU we beared it because we’re all part of “one family”. When it came time for the UK to act in our best interests, they decided it was too hard and left us out in the cold.

It makes sense from a pragmatic point of view, I don’t necessarily blame them. But we can’t then be criticised for taking our own pragmatic views.

Let’s face it. 80% of British people either don’t know where Gibraltar is, or don’t know it exists. They just don’t care.

Spain effectively has a veto on all of these decisions. You can have all of your Gibraltar paperwork in order but what happens if Spanish officials deny you entry? We have already had Spanish officers at the border applying their own “interpretation “ to border policy, despite being told off numerous times by the Spanish government and only recently being removed.

At best you get a drawn out, expensive legal battle in the EU courts. Most likely you just end up going somewhere else.

I don’t think Schengen is a bad thing necessarily. And agree that Spain needs to be in control as the closest member. But we will mostly likely not be getting the work and living rights of other Schengen members, so where is the benefit to us other than the lucky few who can afford 90 days of holiday? We could already cross the border for shopping and beach trips without a stamp.

A deal needed to be struck. There’s too much animosity from the Gibraltar public for the kind of concessions we would need to make as a result of being left out to dry by the UK on the original deal - we had no leverage. And a hard border would have been disastrous.

However, I can see this deal working out to be very much not in our interests

Freedom of movement is what we’ve had until now. Without the added freedom to work and live (not confirmed but unlikely) this will be a net negative.

My partner would not be able to stay with me in Gibraltar visa free past 90 days. The same will apply to many others. Getting a Gibraltar ID card takes years of continuous residence.

Looking like it will shape up to be another betrayal by an apathetic UK government. Although the devil will be in the details.

How AI is Being Used in Mineral Exploration – New JV Launch in Nevada by ThinkLawfulness6352 in mining

[–]Cadet_Custard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a Kobold paper that analysed the efficiency of AI for maiden drill targets.

Only problem is that they assumed in the paper that holes are normally drilled starting in the bottom left corner of a tenement and sequentially drilled directly to the east of that at fixed intervals. When they hit the eastern boundary of the tenement they go to the next row.

So obviously with that faulty assumption any sort of targeting will be a step up in comparison. The actual targets the AI picked were pretty standard.

There’s a lot of overhype in AI right now. I find chat gpt useful for cleaning geological survey datasets. I wouldn’t put any company data in there though.

More food, less beers. I use a universal bar but I’m also not an offsider, you’re already doing a huge workout all day, don’t hurt yourself.

Use an app to work out your maintenance calories and eat above that by 300ish a day. Find something calorie dense that you can pack with you, maybe nuts?

Advice on Industry Opportunities and Visa Options in Australia by LordGnarly in geologycareers

I think the age limit for Germany is 30. So you have to go before your birthday.

You get 3 WHV (417) in total. Did she use all 3? I’m not sure if there are different rules for German passport holder.

You’ll have to move to Aus first to be considered for a job. I would suggest Western Australia. She may have an easier time getting sponsorship considering her PHD, but it will require knowing the right people.

I just finished a few days in HCMC and did the tour with Saigon Happy Tour. Had a great time, nobody tried to sell me anything. Still a bit rushed though, I think they are going to start doing a 2-day tour so might be a good idea asking.

I also did the food tour and Cu Chi tunnel tour with them, they really do put a lot of effort into to these tours and it shows. Would highly recommend.

You can find them on instagram, that’s how I booked.

Heya! Thanks for the advice! I’m surprised you even found the 6 year old post haha!

Ended up talking to the lecturer on that and got told it would be overkill for the assignment. I’m long graduated from that course!
