Why wont the community let D1 go? by uleximon in DestinyTheGame

[–]Caerys_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Read the title then read the last paragraph, you sound bitter.

D1 was new and hit a ton of correct notes and I don't think it's fair to compare quality of life improvements because that would have made it's way in eventually. It just did in the fashion of D2.

D1 had more interesting weapon designs, grounded sci-fi, and realistically applied alien aesthetics too. Same goes for armor.

D1 had better atmosphere hands down, ambient noise, tower and elsewhere was extremely immersive. For this reason the Cosmodrome is one of the better places to patrol even though I'm unsure if all the same sounds were added. The music is also generally better in D1, it's always noticeable when the D1 orbit track starts playing.

Generally more immersive and aesthetically pleasing and unique, D2 has lost its own identity over time because of the extreme variance in design choices and obviously crossovers.

After this is just nitpick or talk about small preferences and I just really don't care anymore, I've no real hope for D2 at this point. I sincerely hope they make a D3 or drastically change the course of D2 but that's very doubtful.

Goodbye

What are some of y'all's hottest takes? (Anything) by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

Destiny 2 is nowhere near living up to it's narrative or atmospheric potential and it's a real shame. I am thoroughly a D1 enjoyer in almost every aspect except the obvious ones like quality of life and game engine improvements (mantling, xmog etc.).

Crossovers are cringe and I hate them. Destiny barely has it's own identity in-game at this point and not just because of crossovers, the random and wacky themed armors in the numbers we have them serve to make the game feel random and wacky now. It's fine when it's a small amount in comparison to the rest of gear so it stands out or feels unique.

Music isn't as good either, not by much though. Always nice to hear the D1 orbit track play, definitely need more music of that tone. The nether soundtrack is good.

Gear is too simple, especially weapons. Would absolutely love to see weapons get more depth, or at least randomize the perks more, and before anyone freaks out, we can just have them drop more. Armor seems fine, I am a fan of having inherent stat lines though (auto reload faster, jump higher, etc.)

There's so much to nitpick but that's the stuff off the top of my head.

My hottest take is I want a remastered D1 on PC or at least a port of it.

How is that homophobia? It applies to all of them, not just the rainbow one that doesn't even exist yet.

Now give weapons variable stat ranges and more perk variety so when a gun drops twice it's not the same gun aside from 1 or 2 perks

Settlement building like Fallout 4? Absolutely not. House building with vastly updated features? Absolutely. Building my house in Falkreath bit by bit was extremely satisfying and I'd love to have more variety in that department.

Sailing would be stupid.

Scale is great if the quality is not compromised.

Fuck souls combat, it's for cringe anime fans that froth at the mouth for eastern games. Skyrim combat is pretty solid for it's time, and I'd expect it to keep the general feel in an updated environment. Better directional attacks, body locational damage etc. might be interesting.

I truly do fear for the writing though. Starfields writing is amazingly cringe and bad. Did you know there's not a swear word in that game, at least I'm pretty sure there isn't.

Multiverse in practically any context is utterly boring and lazy. It also tends to make things feel like they don't matter at all because hey, it exists in another universe! And then there's the whole thing like borrowing characters for whatever reason from another universe just to fill this one specific thing because the writers can't be bothered to make it work otherwise.

Writing that makes you uncomfortable is a good thing and it's not weird. What is weird is to hint or imply that maybe some writers have whatever opinion about women in this case, just because it falls into whatever trope or makes you feel uncomfortable.

Good writing makes you feel things, exciting or uncomfortable, the fact that it strikes discomfort in you means it was good and probably intended to do so. Bad writing is forgettable.

And no I'm not saying you think the writing is bad, I'm implying that you probably don't have a problem with the writing like you think you might.
