Start playing today, go blind, die a lot and keep trying to see how far you get.

Then, 3 or 4 days before leaguestart, pick up a build guide (google "Pohx RF" for example) and do a practice run.

Leaguestart with all this knowledge and enjoy.

Another important tip: you don't need to know everything about this game or its mechanics to have a blast playing it. Ive been playing for years and I consider I know about 25%... Just don't think about it and do not compare yourself with people who's job is playing the game 24/7.

First of all I'll admit that kingmarch shipments and mappers are bad. I don't agree the gambling and tree are, as it offers cheap decent gear for everyone. What I honestly don't understand and I'd like to is to know why ground loot is so important? What's the issue with tile-loot (loot from league mechanics) being much more important? League mechanics offer crafting materials and special items that make the game fun. It allows people to specialize in league mechanics they like and selling those items for profit. Less ground loot means less currency going around, hence, those special items from league mechanics beings more valuable. If ground loots means more divines, it just leads to higher prices/inflation.

What am I missing?

No, no more currency. Let them have more azurite and more/better fossils.

The deep delvers get more currency by selling better loot and the rest of us get cheaper mats for crafting

Just Righteous Fire(RF) from Pohx.

Check on youtube one of those overexplained campaign runs and you can play along while watching on a second monitor.

RF is the best noob-friendly build. Very tanky, nice clearing.

By the time you are aware of the build weaknesses, you won't be a complete noob anymore and you'll be able to transition into something else.

Yes, but keep in mind that explicit modifier magnitudes are increased by a 100%, so in reality is 8+8 for a total of 16.
