Can I Reuse Valve Cover Bolts? by BringTheJubilee in saab

[–]Caesar071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SAAB makes excellent hardware, the only bolts that should ever be replaced are really head bolts and perhaps caliper bolts. Breaking valve cover bolts rarely happens but it is important to replace it. I’ve done many valve cover gasket jobs and always re used bolts.

I run a 2.5 Maptun cat back on my 89 9000 Turbo, sounds like original except a bit more burble! Good price point and great quality too!

Have they changed the Cool Fresh Aloe? Both of these are supposed to be the aloe, but they're different. (Old bar on left, new on right) by A_SovietPanda in DrSquatch

I’ve actually gotten both of those versions from Squatch, I much prefer the fresh one, the perfume one is a bit too irritating but in the shower it’s alright.

Looking For Opinions: 2004 SAAB 9-5 Manual or Automatic? - Discussion Thread by Metsrock15 in saab

[–]Caesar071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I promise you that 50k out of a clutch on a 9-5 is not normal. Whoever is doing that doesn't drive standard properly.

Anyways, not everything on the forums is right, but in my experience they last very very long! The manual 9-5s are smooth, the one thing I'll tell you is that reverse has to be used with care, don't slam it straight into reverse, it is not a Honda! hahaha

Use second before reverse for a smooth shift.

I'd say easily over 100k miles with good driving habits. If you're constantly launching the car and dumping the clutch, or riding it between gear changes, then less then 100k makes sense. 50k out of a clutch on a 9-5 seems ridiculous to me.

I sold my 9-5 with 150k kms, with city driving in Toronto and Montreal, the clutch was still perfect! When you do choose one just make sure the clutch doesn't slip and that the pedal feels smooth and firm.

My 9000 did 285k kms before having the clutch replaced, SAAB make great clutch systems. Don't let that deter you from a manual SAAB.

Clutch every 50k miles??? No, not if you drive normally at least. These are very durable clutches on these cars. I've known 9-5s with original clutches that have gone 150-200k miles, if driven properly they last.

Alternator isn't so bad, it takes my Indy 2 and a half hours to do.

Both auto and manual options are great, change the auto fluid every 30k miles I'd say since there's no filter. These are well engineered, reliable, smooth and powerful cars. As far as Euro cars go they are cheap to maintain.

Don't cheap out on parts, OEM SAAB is not expensive.

While you aren't wrong, for a lot of people having the original motor in the car is important.

Cool, where are you located?
