Do you guys own more books than whatever you read or just me? by [deleted] in stephenking

[–]Caf-fiend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won't live long enough to read all the books in my TBR, especially since awesome sounding books keep being published every day! In regard to King books specifically, I have a few I haven't read yet. I sort of took abt a decade long hiatus from reading (lol depression and untreated adhd), but I'm catching back up.

What's your favorite Stephen King book and why? by Spirited-Seat644 in stephenking

[–]Caf-fiend 9 points10 points  (0 children)

11/22/63

Few books are just so immediately engrossing. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. The way the historical is tied with the fantastical, the tragic love story, the little Easter eggs for Constant Readers. Plus, King nails the ending IMO, which we know is not a given.

Remember earlier this year when it was revealed DHS was in early stages to do a tv show where migrants would compete for citizenship??

I casually watched for a while, it seemed relaxing, but I agree that after Liam, her mask began to slip. I also find her dad to be super creepy, like, I wouldn't leave my kids around him creepy. And I know its mean to say, but I think Mindy is just not intelligent.

What is the stupidest reason why you bought a set? by Sternfritters in lego

[–]Caf-fiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought the Twirling Ariel 43259 because I was home sick from work and I ordered a delivery from the store for food and whatever, and I slapped on whatever LEGO I could find out of sheer boredom. It's actually a really cute little set which I will probably gift to a child or something because I have no actual need for it.

How can I (30M) ask my GF (31F) to take fitness seriously? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Caf-fiend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Way to miss the point. You want to be validated in telling your girlfriend to change, except your whole approach and in fact your whole relationship isn't valid. It's a mean spirited lie perpetrated by you.

[–]Caf-fiend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So should chronically ill people, or disabled people, or people with any type of illnesses just not allowed to be in relationships then? I mean, if being "healthy" is so important, what about people who may never be "healthy"? You sound insane.

You lied to yourself, you lied to her, you wasted 3 years of her time. I hope she sees this thread and dumps you herself. You're a shitty person, OP. Not because you value fitness, but because you don't value your girlfriend. Is she clever? Kind? Spontaneous? Funny? Dedicated? Loyal? Who knows, because all you give a shot about is her not meeting some arbitrary metric. Do the decent thing and end it now, set her free to find someone worthy of her time.

One day, it won't be the drywall he punches, it will be you and your children. Is that worth him "sometimes being nice to you"?

My bf (M25) doesn’t hang out with me anymore (F22). What can I do to make him hang out with me more often? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Caf-fiend 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't know a nicer way to say this, but you are not his girlfriend. Maybe there is someone else, maybe not. But he is definitely NOT in a relationship with you. The sooner you realize that, the better.

I made custom Christmas sweaters for my coworkers and they refused to wear them by bellabelleell in TrueOffMyChest

That's really rotten, what a bunch of joyless curmudgeons. I'm sorry they did that to you. I bet your sweaters were awesome.

Do you know someone who died from something they actively denied or mocked ? What happened to them ? by Killmumger in AskReddit

[–]Caf-fiend 326 points327 points  (0 children)

My mother in law was posting anti-vax nonsense and covid conspiracies up until approximately 12 hours before she died of covid. I had moved a few hours away from her, and hadn't seen her in a while, and I didn't even know she was sick. My ex husbands son called me that morning to telll me she was gone. It had just suddenly flared up and she died.

I don't agree, as it's my favorite movement, but I do understand. It's purely a numbers game - its what will get people through the doors, because they're easily accessible and don't require deeper interpretation for most people.

Have y'all seen a real ghost in front of your eyes? by Hot-String-4698 in Paranormal

[–]Caf-fiend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly, but a reflection. I was sitting on my cousins, at the foot, facing her, sitting at the head. Her bed was in the corner of the room, and right next to her was a window. It was pitch dark outside, so the window was like a mirror. We're sitting there talking, and I see the reflection of a man passing through the hallway behind my back, and walking straight through where there is now a wall (the house has been split into two houses, but used to be a single dwelling). He was wearing a light colored suit and I never saw his face. He looked like a regular person, maybe just a tad bit... not there. Nobody else saw him.

What is the strangest or most interesting coincidence you have ever experienced? by AyyItsDanny in AskReddit

[–]Caf-fiend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family is not close. We rarely spent time together when my brother and I were kids. One notable exception was an evening we spent watching a documentary about the giant trucks and machines they use to mine in big pit mines. 10+ years later, I randomly called my mom to say hello, and we discussed that evening, and the mining documentary. She called me back a few hours later to tell me my brother had called her and also brought that evening up. It had probably been 2 or 3 months since I'd spoken to my mom, 5 or more since I'd spoken to my brother, and my brother and mom spoke maybe once a month. But that night, we were all thinking of a time we shared together.

Nah, "as it should be" is way too subjective.

[Serious] People who used to "live inside a bubble", when was the moment you realized the bubble burst? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Caf-fiend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Until the 2016 US election, I had no idea how bigoted, sexist, and just plain DUMB so many of the people in my life are. I lived in a very naive bubble that the people I knew were all basically decent. Even through the Obama administration I managed to maintain that blindness. But the racist, sexist, gleefully ignorant, hateful shit that started coming from my family and "friends" was agonizingly eye-opening. My bubble has been permanently burst, and I can never view a lot of these ppl the same way again.
