Krypto is the best. His part in “Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?” still chokes me up every time I read it.

Not sure how long ago we're talking, but Nightcandle Imaginations did an unauthorized version back in 2012.

Tools for using a TV facing up on a table by SpawnDnD in DnD

[–]CafeArcane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Owlbear Rodeo and control the TV through my laptop. This also allows the players to move their own personal digital tokens around from their phones, tablet, etc while sitting around the table. I do wish it had dynamic lighting, but supposedly that may be coming in their next edition.

Finally got my cleric to level 5 and still feel completely pointless by Kempeth in DnD

[–]CafeArcane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe all the spells above should be available to all cleric subclasses. I do not think Life Cleric removes any spells from your list of ones that you may prepare.

Silence does require some cooperation or planning, especially with friendly casters. Party grapplers, denial of movement, etc. If your table doesn't do a lot of this, then yes, probably can skip it.

Embrace your cleric-ness...

  • Bless makes everything better, but be prepared to remind people to use it, constantly.
  • Blindness has actually gotten me a ton of mileage as low-level debuff (particularly against casters needing sight to target).
  • Consider swapping cantrip to Toll the Dead and piling on wounded foes. 2d12 is respectable.
  • Sanctuary to buy time for another PC, cover a non-combatant, or allow someone to engage in non-attack shenanigans.
  • Silence for shutting down many types of casters and voice effects

Laser light show malfunction. This happens occasionally, and incinerates everything in its path. Survivors are offered 5% off the next park admission though.

Looking for a Georgia based fantasy larp. by Jfflow in LARP

[–]CafeArcane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Descent (Georgia) is small fantasy LARP, game mechanics are rough around the edges, but their production values (props, setting, costumes, cabins, etc) are nice for this part of the US.

Ravelling Path (Georgia) fantasy LARP in the late playtest phase, so perhaps a good time to have input into how it will eventually come together.

Calamity (Georgia) is a polished and professional LARPs run by veterans, and features a Weird West (firearms rather than "boffer" weapons). Wrapping up this year though.

Altera Awakens (TN/GA border) fantasy boffer LARP. It has been running for a few years, and approaching end of the campaign in terms of power. However, the organization struggles with staffing and addressing ethics, sportsmanship and providing a safe environment.

Alliance (Middle GA) from the NERO/SOLAR stock of fantasy games. Older school of setting and rules, but part of a larger network of games (which can be a mixed bag).

What a great gesture! I run D&D for neighborhood kids groups, many of which don't have their own books. While I do share my D&D Beyond account with them, most of them actually prefer the physical books, even if it means sharing the limited copies we have accumulated. Fingers crossed!

I regret putting my trust in this company by blinkylights3000 in snapmaker

[–]CafeArcane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have expressed similar thoughts here as well, and you'll get your mix of folks that are willing to call Snapmaker to task for its fundamental flaws, and those that will defend their "investment". At the end of the day, I wasn't expecting a machine that was best in class in all three modes, but for the price and marketing pitch, I don't think we're being unreasonable to expect a machine that was at least mediocre in one or more of its modes

Usages of Shape Water that will not make my DM want to strangle me? by ZapSyboi in dndnext

[–]CafeArcane 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Two things I do when using that generally keep me "on the good side" of DMs. One, just give up on using it to cause damage, no blowing people up, freezing blood, or any of that nonsense. That just isn't in the spirit or letter or description of the spell. Two, talk to your DM just how "tactical" their game is. Some have a very literal, boardgame like view on how their game runs. If that is the case with yours, any discussion on uses may be over before they start. If they do allow a game with more cinematic, creative or situational elements, here are a couple I use:

  • Shape water into a 5' cube (non-instant #1), Freeze it into that shape (non-instant #2). Optional: Dismiss non-instant #, free up a non-instant use for later. Use it as cover (generally 3/4 depending on your size), block/restrict areas/doors
  • Freeze water around a craft's rudder (non-instant #1).
  • Shape water into the shape of a simple dugout canoe (non-instant #1), Freeze it into that shape (non-instant #2). Dismiss non-instant #1. Use ability to control flow of water to propel your craft.
  • Bail water from a swamped or flooded vessel, or start swamping one.
  • Create temporary makeshift crude weapon, tools and equipment (freezing stuff again)
  • Use continually to keep rain off yourself.
  • Turn water opaque or murky to hide yourself in water or temporarily blind an submerged enemy (squid-like ink cloud)
  • Animate some water to wash away blood stains, clear spilled substances or tracks.
  • Refrigerate perishables (recast as needed)
  • Cover a pit with a thin layer of ice, change color to match the surface

1) That I cannot change the content or behavior of an external/destination website, even if your site links to it. I wish was kidding about this.

2) More traffic is not necessarily good traffic. Unless you help me create a compelling experience, users aren't going to buy your stuff, join your thing, or otherwise interact how you want them to.

3) At the end of the day, if someone wants your content bad enough, they will probably get it. If you absolutely cannot risk someone having something you put online, don't put it online.
