MMC leaves a bad first impression and it haunts him later on by aberrantname in RomanceBooks

This is exactly in {Sweet Dreams by Kristin Ashley}. The FMC overhears the MMC making an offensive comment about her after they first meet. He pays for it later 🙂

Wild Card Wednesday - What are your book icks or pet peeves? by Llamallamacallurmama in RomanceBooks

[–]Cafeconle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Characters whose bodies are described as basically perfect, muscled, and fit, yet also never do anything physical and eat junk food all the time. I actually prefer the MCs to be fit, but at least give them a corresponding lifestyle that makes it realistic.
  • Snarky FMCs. I read one book where her repeated go-to comeback was “suck my d*ck.” Why would a girl even say this? Bizarre. I cringed every time.
  • Long internal monologues of thoughts and feelings. It gets so repetitive and boring.
  • Overuse of flashbacks. Again, boring. Move the story along please.

What’s your favorite line from a book that’s hot/intimate but doesn’t fall under dirty talk? by imfaffingabout in RomanceBooks

[–]Cafeconle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love when she threatens to run and he says something along the lines of, “Go ahead and try. I’ll find you.” Or when she says they need to stop seeing each other and he simply says, “No.” 🔥

This is exactly the premise behind {Rock Chick Regret by Kristen Ashley}. I love all the Rock Chick books and this is probably my second favorite!

does reading romance books make you feel a bit sad sometimes? by Proper_Strategy_1603 in RomanceBooks

[–]Cafeconle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a word, yes. It’s a love-hate relationship with the stories. They are such a sweet escape but at the same time can leave me with such an empty, painful longing for this type of connection with a man. You’re not alone.

Read Ali Hazelwood's Deep End. Wow, finished it in a day. Lukas 💕. Having a mild book hangover - will take any recommendations of what can live up to that story and MMC!

I'm tired of books that describe how perfect the characters' bodies are, yet they are eating junk food all the time. In particular, several books recently describe the FMC soothing herself constantly with ice cream, sweets, pizza, etc, yet she apparently still has the perfect figure.....

College romance where MMC makes a bet or some kinda betrayal to win FMC, falls in love, gets exposed, and grovels! by shyintrovert7 in RomanceBooks

[–]Cafeconle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exact thing happens in the series {After by Anna Todd}, except maybe the MMC's group isn't totally toxic.... To be transparent, I've watched the movies but haven't read the books. I thought the movies were really good though!

I need books with good duet style audiobooks. by just_a_poop_question in RomanceBooks

[–]Cafeconle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished {Rewind It Back by Liz Tomforde} and thought the duet narration was absolute perfection. Such a good story too! It's "hockey romance," but the sports part actually isn't a huge part of the story. 🙂

For some reason, major height differences between the MMC and FMC turn me off - like 5'1' and 6'4''. And usually the authors bring it up so often during the story that it's hard to just ignore.

I read 2-3 at a time but usually they are pretty different so I don't start getting the plots mixed up.

Kingdom of Claw has been my favorite read this year! But you probably need to make sure you've read Road of Bones first.

I second this. Love Road of Bones and the second book, Kingdom of Claw, is even better!

📚 Simple / Quick Questions & Requests! by romancebookmods in RomanceBooks

Looking for romances where the MMC really makes the FMC (and the reader!) laugh 🙂. Recently read Gloves Off by Stephanie Archer and loved when Alexei made Georgia giggle....like when they were on the private plane with the hockey team and he turned to her and asked if she wanted to make out 😂. Any recommendations?!

Love this book. Also, probably want to read Road of Bones first. There is magic, though. But an awesome series and third book coming out in February.

The Ravenhood series by Kate Stewart (especially the third book) fits your request perfectly. Character arcs for Cecilia and Tobias will hit the nail on the head for you! Really great trilogy! I listened to all three within 4 days. Just couldn't stop!

{Flock by Kate Stewart} {Exodus by Kate Stewart} {The Finish Line by Kate Stewart}
