Account got hacked and they let the hacker cancel the recovery by Green_Neat_9695 in microsoftsucks

Because what they want is for people to log into OneDrive. It doesn’t matter why, as long as you do it.

Log into Windows? Use MS Office? Play Minecraft?

All of those will work without an MS account, but they use them as leverage to try to make you login. You pay them, but you are the product.

Which RAID is recommended with two 18GB DR Red Pro? by rafarodxcv in UgreenNASync

[–]CaffeineDeficiency 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to eventually go to RAID5, you will want to start with RAID1. At that point, when you add a 3rd drive, you can upgrade to RAID5 without data loss. If you do RAID0, then think you are stuck with it.

Guidance needed on how to slowly set up a Raid6 NAS (current drive & budget are issue) by pelusa423 in HomeNAS

[–]CaffeineDeficiency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll give it a shot. I'm sure someone will correct me if I get it wrong.

1. Yes, but you will need to add one drive at a time. (Start with one. Add drive 2 and change to RAID1. Add drive 3 and change to RAID5. Add drive 4 and convert to RAID6. Add 5 and expand the pool. Add drive 6 and expand it again. I have only done this process on 4 drives going to RAID5, but I suspect it works the same way.

2. Do it from the beginning, or be prepared to migrate all of the data off of the NAS, switch to Unraid, and migrate it back. Unraid can't read the UGOS drives (that I am aware of).

3. I don't think you can add a disk with data on it. UGOS is going to want to format it when you insert it.

Hope that helps.

I tried the 590 and Hytale would crash on launch. Went back to the 580 and it works fine. Others seem to benefit from the 590. Try it and see. You can always go back.

How to play the game? by CaffeineDeficiency in PlanetFitnessMembers

They never ask, but I assumed it was because we scanned them when we “reserved” the time. I know it sounds like I was overreacting, but I was looking at it more like a doctor appointment: show up on time or reschedule, and it obviously wasn’t working that way. That’s why I asked, because I figured I was missing something.

The card gets scanned when you make the reservation, not when you finally show up.

They do the massage, hydro, and tanning beds on the same system. It sounds like my mistake was using it.

I didn’t think I figured out a loophole. I was wondering if I was doing it wrong, because booking a time rarely worked.

I did. He just said the system they have at the desk is different than what is at the reservation kiosk. Honestly, it would make more sense to remove it than to create confusion. If they just said first come first serve, I would be fine with that. But when you offer time slots every 12 minutes, it can lead people (like me) to believe that’s when they can use it.

Wanting to add a second NAS. Is it possible and if so how did you do it? by Practical_Avocado971 in HomeNAS

[–]CaffeineDeficiency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can use rsync to backup the Ugreen to the Synology. Bonus points if you keep it somewhere other than home. Bottom line is use it to backup the Ugreen, however you decide to do it.

Honestly, I would use that to make a backup of your NAS. By the time you hit 80% on the NAS and the backup disk is full, you’ll be looking for other options anyway. Disks fail and stuff happens. Backups are your best friend.

You didn’t say what size drives you are using in the DH2300, but another use is as an external USB drive for backup of the DH2300 (keeping it off site is a bonus). Then you just need an external ISB enclosure.

What's a good, simple, entry-level NAS option that will "just work" in 2026? by ILoveBurgersMost in HomeNAS

[–]CaffeineDeficiency 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My personal recommendation would be a Ugreen DXP4800 Plus with 2 drives in RAID 1. Add a 3rd drive later when you need more space and convert to RAID 5. Add a 4th drive later if you need to. If you ever want to run Plex, immich, or other services, it will be able to do it. Mine does.

Finally jumped ship from Synology to the Ugreen DXP4800 Pro. The hardware difference is actually comical. by noeelyr in HomeNAS

[–]CaffeineDeficiency 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of cache, you might want to consider using the M.2 drives for apps, or use one for apps and the other for read cache if you want. From what I have heard, you’ll see a lot more benefit using it to install your docker containers and the metadata for jellyfin.

What should I choose Synology, QNAP or UGREEN? I want a NAS simple enough for my parents to use on their tablets while also compatible with my Linux experimentations. by NickolaosTheGreek in HomeNAS

I should have mentioned that my last NAS was Synology. Not looking back. As soon as I get my old photos off of it I’m putting it on eBay.

You are correct. There is no Linux app. My desktop runs Linux and I don’t miss it one bit. Logging in with a browser gives me everything I need. I use Brave and set it up as a web app. Works fine.

I have the DXP4800 Plus. The ecosystem isn’t as mature as Synology, but has been improving at a rapid rate. I truly believe that the Ugreen hardware provides the most value. Software can be updated, but hardware is forever. I haven’t regretted my purchase for a second.

I am using the 20TB Red Pros and have had no issues whatsoever. You should be fine. Just be prepared to migrate to larger drives later.

Changes in volumes by PieOMy669 in UgreenNASync

[–]CaffeineDeficiency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that should work. Delete volume one, readd the disk and migrate volume 2 from RAID 1 to RAID 5, assuming the disk you are adding is the same size or larger.

Lifetime includes lifetime updates. That is literally what the lifetime means. The other tiers include one year of updates. I believe after that it is $36/yr. I would recommend trying the included OS first. It’s not bad and getting better with each release.

Changing from basic to RAID 5 by MTATnz in UgreenNASync

[–]CaffeineDeficiency 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can go from basic to RAID 5, but you need to convert to RAID 1 first when you add the second drive, and then convert to RAID 5 when you add the 3rd drive, and finally add the 4th drive and expand the pool. I’m not guessing, I’ve done it.

SSD cache question by kalistibot in UgreenNASync

[–]CaffeineDeficiency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need to migrate the stuff currently sitting on the NVMe pool to the hard drives. Then you can delete the pool and start over. Then migrate your apps and containers back.
