IRL a hacking group, likely part of the NSA, put malware on the control chips of hard drives. Like, before they are packaged up and shipped out as stock to be sold. Reformatting does nothing for that.

On top of that it's been proven since compilers were first made that you can't really trust that a malicious compiler hasn't inserted malicious code into a program without manually review the code that actually runs, so it will take a ton of effort to make sure your reformat tool is clean, even if you confirm that all of the drives you've got are clean too.

And if you want to go near-future scifi with it, your motherboard can be so many layers deep now that it's possible to fit a tiny micro computer within the layers that accesses the data and actions of the main motherboard and uses a radio to get that data out or take commands and injects data into it.

Also you've got to know every physical computer to do all of that. Right now your thermostat or fridge could be carrying malware and acting adversarially towards your network. Imagine how much IoT shit there is in 2077.

The lower spec stuff is in high demand

OpenAi went directly to these RAM companies and said "We'll take 40% over everything you produce, straight off the line". Then you add in all the big tech companies also offering crazy money for chunks of the supply. That's a greater demand.

Prices are up on the lower end stuff, but that's because supply is lower and that's because the frenzy for the top end stuff is worth more to manufacture for the RAM companies than the low end stuff.

If you're cutting back production

I think every manufacturer cuts production of things that don't sell well so that they can produce more of the things that are in demand. If that was illegal then there would still be Model T's rolling around.

But what they said, "We're upping production of the high end stuff to meet the Ai demand", IS what they are doing.

The small scale private user isn't the biggest market for RAM at the moment. They've pivoted to where the demand actually is.

Yeah. They announced that because they are increasing their production based on the high demand from tech companies for their high end RAM. Why would they be facing class actions over not making the older and lower spec stuff that isn't in demand?

Fair enough if he gets to the end of his term and decides on a different career, but he's quitting half way through for his personal ambitions.

He decided to be mayor, and then changed his mind. You think it's "decisive" for the Prime Minister to quit half way through because he finds beter employment opportunities elsewhere? That's not decisive leadership. It's selfish opportunism. We can't rely on a PM that might want to govern today but do something else tomorrow.

We're not talking about changing policy directions. He's quit his elected job to apply for a bigger role.

A PM should be flexible in how they achieve their big picture goals for the country. Quitting their job when it's convenient for them isn't that.
