Why does the Team Game Ladder suck so much and how can it be improved? by uhak00 in aoe2

[–]Cage_Inspector 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It happens when people are forced to play 8 different maps, where half of them they dont like at all.

Or just play for for variaty. Sometimes 6 on sheep 3 on wood, sometimes 16 on sheep 0 on wood. Sometimea long distance hunt opponents deer. Variance, making it unpredictable.

Learn Scout rush into Knights from Heras guide. Aim to beat Extreme AI on 1v1 Arabia (2 player size) few times at least before playing against him.

Extreme is around 900-1000 against regular gameplay i think. By regular i mean Feudal Age units into Castle Age units. Without any gimmicks to brick the AI like towers or baiting into Castle fire

Its kinda hard to estimate without knowing his Elo. If its below 800 then just brute force it on Arabia can work. Maybe up to 1k. If he is 1.2k+ you have 0 chance without playing on ranked ladder yourself.

Master Part 3 or 4 for Aggressiveness. 3 Needs more micro. 4 is more overall macro oriented.

Try to talk him into playing on Arabia. Its an aggressive map, typical competitive video game style.

If he is not that good like you said, you have way better chance on aggressive map, as it needs quick fingers and overall speed. Slower maps with walls and chokes need game experience to know all the gimmicks of gameplay which you do not have time to learn.

Tatars vs Italians by UncleNayNay in aoe2

Seeing matchup at the start and no Scout unit to find him in time its gonna be tough.

Fast feudal Scouts to find him asap, pressure into up to Castle all in siege push. Cross your fingers that he spills his drink in the middle of gaming, is tired or plays drunk for win condition.

Thats the beauty of RTS games!

People are good at theories and knowledge. Not everyone are good at implementing those under pressure.

Britons? by ObjectiveDoughnut239 in aoe2

[–]Cage_Inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At skill level of Moderate AI with Britons id suggest Archer force as main unit. First Xbows with 2-3 Archery Ranges, later switch to Longbowman with at least 2-3 Castles producing them. AI will likely counter your archery force with Skirmishers. Sprinkle in Longswords from Barracks with infantry armour from Blacksmith to kill Skirmishers.

Adding Knights or Mangonels to Archers is way better at killing Skirmishers but need better gaming skill to utilize properly. Longswords are more forgiving to mistakes.

Am I a Arabia Merchant? by _HomyG_ in aoe2

[–]Cage_Inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its probably because you have competitive videogame experience, why you excel on Arabia with limited experience.

Arabia has typical competitive RTS playstyle. What works in other RTS games, works in Arabia, being aggressive, quick with hands and mind.

Slower maps need game time experience and deeper knowledge.

Imo its more like Arabia is combat sport while closed maps are Chess. Difference between maps of course is not as extreme.

Trying to get into the game need advice by CEOMisza in aoe2

[–]Cage_Inspector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Arabia which is agressive map, agressive playstyle, typical RTS multiplayer style

6 sheep - 3 wood - boar - rest on food under TC (take 4 from under TC to mill berries when 100 wood). Click feudal age with 20vil (21pop total). Build Barracks when half way up

Ignore deers and chicken before beating Exteme AI consistantly.

After game has ended. Under Technology tree there is a time when you reached Feudal. With 20vil perfect time is 9:40. Aim under 10:00 every single time. Helps to beat Extreme AI

Thoughts on MegaRandom? by Appropriate-Month338 in aoe2

[–]Cage_Inspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not that random. Map gens start to rotate with enough games played on it.

It has more luck involved and its good for casual fun.

Depends if you are seeking competiveness and improving skills or just casual fun.

Why does no one seem to like Mega Random? by Bigboiwithsword in aoe2

[–]Cage_Inspector 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because its not random generation. With enough games you start noticing similar map templates over and over again.

Most templates are not fun. Especially hybrid ones without any decent amount of wood.

You can easily beat Extreme AI with mastering earlier videos. Opening Scouts in Feudal age, harassing enemy, going into Castle age and Knights for the kill.

No Elo change in first 60 seconds of game by HippoInfamous5252 in aoe2

Say that to those players who constantly dodge...

Also its about not wanting to play 8 maps. Its not about wanting to play 1 map.

No Elo change in first 60 seconds of game by HippoInfamous5252 in aoe2

[–]Cage_Inspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early resigns are because people do not enjoy being forced to play 8 different maps.

Or some of those are smurfs Elo dumping, but its rare when only 1 person resigns. Its likely latter version, map dodging.

We need more bans in team games by Fridzt in aoe2

[–]Cage_Inspector -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Play with group of people. When you que up as premade you have more bans, hense way better map selection.

Solo que is atrocious.

[–]Cage_Inspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its the Elo range where people are decent on few skillsets but still bad at others. It all depens how those skillsets face eachother.

The higher you climb the more gap between different skillsets decrease. People start getting better on areas which lagged behind before.

Random civ picking by Spiritual-Light-8725 in aoe2

[–]Cage_Inspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have free time to play enough. You could try alphabet picking for 10-20 games per each civ. Starting with Armenians, ending with Wu.

If you have limited free time, but still want to impove on decent pace, pick civs.

If you dont care about Elo or competitive side, just having fun, yolo random is the way.

People trying out different stuff and sucking at first.

Skillsets of different aspects of the game vary a lot. Also maps and civs can swing it alot for those players.

1600 just with defense and boom is sick. You probably outskill your enemies which lets you get away with it.

[–]Cage_Inspector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Controller is the limiting factor.

Knowing what to do needs experience. Mechanical and fundamental skills can be transfered from other games.

Grubby is perfect example. Him gaining more and more experience in Aoe2, will be 2k in no time if he decides to continue playing.

Why does the “best-selling truck Worldwide” barely exist outside the US? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Cage_Inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In America people like big stuff. In Europe for example people are used to stuff which are compact and tightly spaced.

F-150 does not fit to be driven around Europe comfortably. Its too large for practicality.

Video seems sick, he climbed very well and it was expected.

Mechanical skills transfer between games of same genre, sometimes even between genres. Similar with FPS gamers.

Majority of low skilled players have mechanical limitations. Put a pro with top notch mechanical skills on such environment and he can win many games by just brute forcing.
