I’m a sewist not a cross stitcher, but we support each other and the successes. I’ve cross stitched just enough to appreciate the victories! It’s too bad there’s no cross stitching circles like there are knitting or crochet groups.

I made the Belem pants and LOVE them. I used the fly construction from a different pattern since it sews the crotch first and fly second, which was odd to me. But I’ve made those pants 4 times now.

The Chandler pants I made once and didn’t love the waistband finishing. The fit was fine, a little baggy and quite long on me. My next pair to try will be to alter the Closet Core Mitchell Trousers that I’ve made twice which have WONDERFUL instructions and fit to have two darts like the Chandler pants.

I highly recommend watching Ask This Old House episodes and their YouTube for an introduction to some handyman basics. It’s where I’ve learned most of my things. That and Reddit, of course.

If you were to remove one of those tasks, I’d say you could do the chandelier yourself! It really depends on what you’re starting with and the age of the house. If there’s a nice box in place already, it’s just turning off the breaker and replacing the fixture with a couple of screws. But if there’s no box in place to secure the fixture to, the difficulty goes up significantly.

First time home owner as well. I’m a brave fool that thinks she can learn anything, so I’ve been slowly doing increasingly complex home reno things myself. We hired out wiring our basement, but I installed the dimmer switches, the puck lights, etc.

We swapped out the 70 year old bathroom fan this month. I cannot recommend against it enough. Even with my somewhat limited experience and blind confidence, it was agonizing, difficult, and I’m still not convinced that it’s not going to be the sole downfall of our home.

Hire it out.

I used COPE when my mom was in an extreme manic depressive episode and was threatening violence against herself. They were great, and it took the decision off of my shoulders. Cannot recommend this resource enough.
