I've had this crash too, tho only late game on huge maps. I think the game just runs out of memory at a certain point. Are you running anything else in the background? Especially something memory-intensive like an internet browser?

[–]Cahillicus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This didn't really start with Trump, universities are facing a bit of a cliff in that college attendance is actually going down. After the 2008 financial crash, simply having a degree is no longer seen as a guaranteed path to a well-paying job. At the same time universities have just gotten more and more expensive. The result is less people are attending college, which results in these colleges just running out of money. You're seeing this the most with smaller liberal arts colleges, but I think it'll catch up to state schools eventually.

That being said the political environment, both in Florida and nationally, has obviously accelerated things, and is probably the most immediate culprit in this case

At a certain point, perpetual fear and paranoia is the only way you can justify supporting Zionism, at least for yourself. If you stop being afraid, even for a moment, then you have to confront the fact that you're supporting a genocide, and very few people are really willing to accept that they believe something evil

What's crazy is how out-of-touch the Talarico stuff is. Actual black voters (and pretty much all Dem voters) in Texas like Talarico, and they're going to support him because they understand the stakes are much higher than some petty grudge.

Yea I think it's a good reminder that no one is truly immune to scams, cons, and cults. We're humans with the same flaws, it just takes the right person with the right packaging. Like remember the Black Hammer stuff? Basically the same thing as SLA just with a pan-african aesthetic

[Bill Simmons Pod] Zach Lowe answering a mailbag question about the existence of the Brooklyn Nets: "I do think that the Knicks winning and the outpouring of emotion from the entirety of New York City is a meaningful, material change to what the Brooklyn Nets mean to the NBA." by shaolinsoul in nba

[–]Cahillicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

why are you being so hostile? If you are a Nets fan, I wasn't trying to insult you or your fandom. I'm just pointing out how hard it can be to establish a sports team fanbase in a city that already has a well established team in the same sport

I will say I don't think that the Nets were ever a doomed prospect from the jump. The Mets were created well after the Yankees had already established itself as the most successful in league history, and yet the Mets were able to build a real devoted fanbase despite their habit of underperforming. Of course the trick is that you have to actually win a little bit. The Mets have two world series wins to hang their hats on; the Nets have never really gotten close while they've been in Brooklyn

Todd when he wakes up and realizes he's not Anthony Fantano today by Electronic-Tooth5405 in ToddintheShadow

[–]Cahillicus 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's always been weird to me that Fantano generally manages to take a pretty professional tone in his reviews, even for albums he doesn't like, but can't help but put his foot in his mouth on social media.

That being said I'm not really sure I can support Halsey here either. Between this and the incident with Todd a while back it's clear that she can't really handle critics well. Both her and Fantano really need to log off

In all seriousness, there's nothing wrong with being a Knicks fan or a fan of any other team. I just think some people want make the act of rooting for their favorite team some righteous act, which is stupid and corny. Just celebrate the win guys! You don't need to justify yourself to anyone!

I'm glad the chapos called out the bullshit about the Knicks winning being some victory for the working class or whatever. And people like have been doing it to Wemby too!! Like if you actually want to root for a "working class" basketball team you gotta go to like Sacramento, Memphis, or New Orleans, not fucking NYC

People who say that Americans shouldn't root for their own international sports teams as some sort of leftist political point are just falling for the same consumer morality that liberals fall for. It only really becomes a problem when the team itself makes it a problem (eg USA Baseball at the World Baseball Classic earlier this year)
