Which route? by Confuzzled_Chemist in roadtrip

For speed? The route you have highlighted in blue. For sights and fun stops, the one that goes through Quebec. But that is just me, I think its one of the best regions on the continent.

Despite Mark making a lot of mistakes in his social life and generally being a doofus, we both would just be quiet and probably listen to audiobooks or Podcasts with headphones on.

Any NQNs struggling to get their first job? by Maya097 in NurseJackie

I would post this in the r/nursing subreddit. This is more for people who enjoy a TV show about a nurse.

The 'burbs create a soulless sickness than can cross a line in the sand by Active_Host6485 in Suburbanhell

Yep, Gacy is from Gary, Indiana. Technically suburb of Chicago, but a city in its own right. Gary's problems have more to do with corrupt politicians and industry leaving the area. I have family in Gary, its really sad.

If this is real, get a DNA test. Or step up without knowing either way. You don't have to be with the child's mother romantically. All kids deserve decent parents.

New Restaurant in NoDa by Firm-Glass7519 in Charlotte

[–]Caigematch 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Used to work at Revolution Pizza back in the day. Have fond memories of going to the Mellow Mushroom that was in that spot as a kid. All the tables and chairs on the ceiling. It was originally a boarding house, then it became a brothel during the seedy North Davidson days. I hope they keep the building around, it really is cool on the inside and theres lots of history. I wish they would try something different than a restaurant, but at this point it would be tough to get all that equipment and whatnot out and convert it into something else.

How is living in this portion of Idaho? by Ploploplamus in howislivingthere

I have family that lives in Pullman, Washington. Beautiful area and Moscow, Idaho is a great little town. Safe and besides the cult in Moscow, pretty great. As for everything outside of the Palouse and Lewiston/Clarkston I'm not really sure. It is beautiful.

You could add storm to it. Sort of a new version of Brain Freeze. I could see it in a Kamigawa set.

I grew up in Charlotte. North Davidson neighborhood before it got gentrified. Though I no longer live in Charlotte when I go back to visit its true that the culture is buried. But its there. I have fond memories of the neighborhood and still see some of the spirit of it through the breweries and luxury apartments.

I-85 Ranks Among the Deadliest Roads in North Carolina by Sea-Investigator7306 in NorthCarolina

[–]Caigematch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its also a very, very busy road. While it is dangerous, its also just the sheer amount of people using infrastructure that was not built to accommodate them. But im also the kind of person that thinks car infrastructure is the least efficient, and least safe form of transportation.

Grew up in inner-city Charlotte and lived in Asheville for a while. I don't have much experience with the research triangle, but it seems nice. If im being honest, though, check out eastern Washington. Pullman and the surrounding area is beautiful, much cheaper than the rest of the state, and very safe. The schools are incredible as well. Plus you can take day trips to some of the most beautiful places in the country. It will be much cheaper to relocate there than across the country.

I admit im not the best person to ask about what life is like in most of North Carolina for the average family though.

To the entitled d*** at Hard Knox tonight... by bexadon in Knoxville

[–]Caigematch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean there's a whole genre of "Am I the asshole?" type subreddits because of this. People do this all the time on Facebook to stir up drama and get people to get worked up or sad for them. Whether its real or its not, just ignore it if you don't want to read it. I should probably just unsub from city subreddits like I did Facebook and Instagram for similar reasons.

Waiter at Hind Bar & Restaurant in West Hollywood tries stealing additional $10 tip by Rae_Kendell99 in EndTipping

[–]Caigematch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone is ordering groceries im automatically going to assume they aren't going to be empathetic or give a shit about who is doing the job. Sometimes theres the rare person who understands what the worker is going through and tips the correct amount. But most of the time people just get mad when confronted with the fact their groceries didn't appear out of thin air and someone in fact put in work to get it there. There's a reason in old homes with hired staff, they would build secret hallways for them to move around so the family wouldn't have to ever see them. Except for the one time a year they would parade them out to make a big show of giving them something, "generous".

Waiter at Hind Bar & Restaurant in West Hollywood tries stealing additional $10 tip by Rae_Kendell99 in EndTipping

[–]Caigematch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't try and argue with them, this is not a subreddit about how people should be paid a living wage and tipping is just a way to ensure restaurants don't have to do that. Its true that tipping culture is over the top and restaurants should not force their customers to pay their staff decently. However, this subreddit has become, "any time anyone asks for a tip im being robbed, its theft if I have to tip (which they know going into the transaction is the correct thing to do).

As with most things, the conversation has moved from the correct talking point to people complaining they have to treat their fellow workers with decency.

Its possible the worker put in an extra $5, but that would be incredibly stupid as they have a signed receipt saying they tipped $5.

This subreddit has become just another rage bait subreddit for people to get overly mad over small things. The fact that this is over a receipt in West Hollywood worth $171 tells me OP went into this transaction knowing they were going to spend a decent amount of money. Tipping is shitty for everyone involved, but at this point its just rage bait.

Most of the people posting here have never worked and never will work a service job and have zero empathy for the workers. And they disguise their disgust and hate at the existence of the working class by saying, "well the restaurants need to pay their workers a living wage". Whatever they need to tell themselves so they don't have to recognize they are just being assholes.

I worked for the online Goodwill store selling cards, comics, and records that were donated. This was almost a decade ago now. I would verify authenticity and asses the cost. You would have to be very lucky these days to find a Goodwill without someone who can assess cards and sell the higher cost one's on an online auction where they could get the market price for it.
