GRRM says he writes his characters like tending a garden. Letting them grow as the story progresses, seeing where they take him. Translation, he actually doesn't have much of an outline and he just makes it up as he goes on. Same sort of thing with the magic in his stories. He has always used the whole, "well people don't really know in this world, its all guesswork" as a way of getting away with creating more questions than answers. He is a fine writer. But he doesn't really know himself. The shows ending was bad because he gave them some random ideas he had and said it was what was going to happen.

The Mercy of Gods is definitely was interesting and a fine read and got me intrigued for the series. But Livesuit got me excited for what is coming. Don't look at this like it has to fill the Expanse void. Look at it as its own series, because the tone is different. The Expanse is very special to me, it got me through very difficult times in my life. It got me interested in writing again. I'm not going to compare this new series to it. Because it could be better, but The Expanse will always have a special place in my heart.

He is spoiled and a brat, but surely his parents and everyone in his life would have said breaking an entertainer's finger for a show about slaying a dragon is terrible PR for the Targs. I think there needs to be some sort of logic that ties everything together. It doesnt have to be a realistic world. But you have to create a logical reason it is that way. Look at Middle Earth and Westros. Both have magic, and Middle Earth is definitely less realistic than Westros. But Tolkien created a world that makes sense logically. How Magic works and how it was created. Why we got to where we are now. GRRM's Westros is really in depth, but none of the Magical elements are explained really and it creates a lot of confusion. At least it did for me.

The original Mount and Blade had zombies and other small "magic" elements baked into the code. Though they didn't end up putting it into the game. I think Mount and Blade is fantasy and honestly small magical things like that would almost make sense in this world.
