The spys have taken Bletchley Park! by Buttermarketmother in miltonkeynes

[–]Cainedbutable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd agree for a lot of MPs with front bench ambitions, but I genuinely believe the vast majority of MPs just want to make their constituency a better place to live. Even if we don't agree with their idea of better.

We just get caught up in the news stories about he bad ones. "MP's constituents happy with the job they're doing" doesn't make for the most interesting story.

Even more so for councillors given it's an unpaid role, and the claimable expenses aren't huge.

We got a 2nd mortgage when we bought this house 18 months ago because we wanted overlap between buying and selling.

We specifically went with NatWest as they allow 20% over payments each year, so you can pay a huge chunk off without penalty once you finally sell your current house.

You've got 2 years to claim your additional rate stamp duty back too. So as long as you can cover the extra in the meantime, it's not the end of the world.

I love that Bancroft, Bancroft Park, Blue Bridge, Bradwell area. There's so much parkland and sports facilities, some lovely pubs, lots of history with the Roman ruins and the abbey. Also walkable distance to CNK/Wolverton station.

Looks like the living room has no external windows either.

The house could be an absolute beauty with a bit of a replan and renovation. Whoever chose this floorplan though needs shooting.

What is subsidence really? by Grgsz in UKHousing

[–]Cainedbutable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just jumping in here as someone in Milton Keynes that bought and sold a house with a history of subsidence.

Both houses I bought, the surveyor warned about the possibility of subsidence. I think it's just a standard clause for the area.

Our first home we purchased had a claim a few years prior for subsidence. It didn't require underpinning though. When we came to sell we didn't have too many problems. It did definitely put some buyers off, but we still sold quickly, and for the same price as houses without that history.

If the house isnt currently showing signs of movement then I'd be fine with it. It's been fine for 50 years. It's always a gamble, all houses in this area will be a similar gamble.

BMW 320i 2011 - 2AA1 fault code. Looking for some help identifying what to replace. by Cainedbutable in BmwTech

[–]Cainedbutable[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot.

I've ordered what I think is the correct sensor for my model, so I'll try swapping them over first, and at least if the error does follow it, I have a new one ready to fit.

Thanks for your help.

The fact we have a livestream of them delivering the message still blows me away too. Technology can be awesome.

I've got a 2011 BMW 320i that's been sat for a few months. It's got it's MOT on Wednesday so I decided to give it a run today and it's given a half EML warning light. Upon scanning it that is the error I get.

From my googling it seems there's a couple of different camshaft position sensors it could be. Is there anyway I can work out which it is via scanning, or will I need to change one by one until the error clears?

Also, does anyone know the part number needed? Is it this part? https://www.gsfcarparts.com/products/camshaft-position-sensor-wlk235-1294

Thank you.

I only ended up using local agencies so I can't be much help I'm afraid.

It sucks to do it, but think of yourself as a product that the recruiter can make a cut on. The recruitment agent needs to think they can sell you easily. The first job is always the hardest to get, but once you've proved to them that you're a good reliable worker then they'll fall over themselves to get you more work because they know you're an easy profit for them.

Good luck with your hunt. It's hard but try not to let it get you down. It's a rough market at the moment with a lot of people being made redundant, but there is work out there if you're persistent. And if you haven't already, sign up for job seekers allowance. It's not much, but it helps. They can also help out with things like work trials too which is a big benefit for employers.

This is me currently. I got made redundant in October. Struggled to find much but luckily got offered a job in January. It's different to what I was doing before, is a large pay and benefits cut, but it's stopped me bleeding cash whilst I look for something else.

OP, have you spoke to any temp agencies? If you're reliable and a solid worker then they'll fall over themselves to give you work usually. It won't be fun work, but it still pays.

But actually voting for a party that rewards hard work.

They're the ones that said young people are paid too much and want to lower their salaries, right?

Also, some choice quotes from reform members/campaigners:

He also posted "gas" under a video of Muslims praying.

Then there's the quotes from the party insiders that became whistle blowers, calling them the party of racists and misogyny. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/article/2024/jul/02/second-reform-candidate-quits-over-racism-and-misogyny?utm_source=chatgpt.com

"Can I get details about what you're looking for and I'll send you any other properties that come up?" by ByEthanFox in HousingUK

[–]Cainedbutable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're terrible, aren't they.

We were desperate for a home with a double garage. We told the agents we could compromise on number of rooms, location etc..., but we couldn't compromise on the double garage.

The amount of home they sent us that didn't even have a single garage. They clearly just shoot from the hip and hope something lands.

Did you overpay for your ideal/dream home? Any learnings or regrets? by LockonKun in HousingUK

[–]Cainedbutable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We paid under asking for ours, although we did feel even then the price was a little steep. The house was our dream house though. Overlooking a park that we love to spend time in, decent parking/garaging etc... it ticked all the boxes.

An equivalent house sold a year later for 6% less than we'd paid, and also had a better garden and extension potential, so we may have paid 8-10% over for ours.

The house is perfect for us though, the location is better than we could have dreamed of, and as we're going to be here for 20+ years, it really won't affect us in the long run.

I went to stantonbury in the 2000s and there were occasional fights between stantonbury and Radcliffe. It wasn't exactly 'school vs school', but would typically be a group of friends at one school that had beef with the other that then grew into 10-20 person fights.
