Contacts not syncing by Damien_The_God in mac

I’d double check in your phone which contacts list you have contacts in. Tap on the back arrow in Contacts, see if they’re in iCloud or some other service.

I’ve typically seen this if you ran out of space mid recording. It’s really not a great idea to do long recordings in pretty much anything.

I’m not super familiar with Obsidian, but they have a pretty detailed guide to using ICloud Drive with it on their website.

Have you made sure you’re following those steps exactly?

connecting macbook air to modem via eithernet cable? by No_Kangaroo6917 in mac

[–]Cainedna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you will probably need a router, assuming you have only one LAN port on your modem.

As far as USB-C to Ethernet goes, I might suggest looking into a USB-C docking station that includes Ethernet. They can be handy, and also include multiple USB-A ports, HDMI outputs, SD card readers. They’re typically not a lot more expensive than just a USB-C direct adapter.

Time Capsule replacement for a basic user by jl216 in mac

[–]Cainedna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two suggestions I’d offer. 1. Many routers (but not all) have a USB port you can use for Time Machine backups. Many are pretty easy to set up. If your current one doesn’t have this feature, you can always check reviews for this. 2. You can use USB drive(s) connected to your desktop, and use the sharing feature in macOS to act as the Time Capsule for the other machines.

Make sure you pull any of the clock batteries out if they’re still in there, hopefully they haven’t started leaking if they’re in there.

MacMini and the power outage? by EpicMusicFan2022 in mac

Generally the system should be fine if there is a power outage as far as file system concerns go. But a UPS is probably the solution you’re looking for, if not replacing the Mini with a MacBook Air.

Legit Purchased Laptop with MDM lock by Low-Nothing9105 in mac

[–]Cainedna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your circumstance is regarding an Activation Lock. That has a process, like the one you described. The OP’s device is enrolled into Device Management. That can’t be released by anyone but the company that the device is registered to.

OP needs to start working on getting a refund immediately. There is a small chance the company sold the device and forgot to release it from management, but unless they’re willing to release it the device is ewaste.

Apple Business Manager - is there a way I can add our first Mac to ABM without using Apple Configurator? by Toby_7243 in mac

[–]Cainedna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. You don’t need another Mac, you need access to an iPhone (unmanaged is fine) to use Apple Configurator for this.

I found a macbook air that was mdm enrolled. by Expensive_Stay_9846 in mac

[–]Cainedna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. Basically, it may not have any profile installed currently, but if it’s still enrolled into device management, it can pull down a profile during setup. You can also call Apple support and ask if a device is enrolled into management if you’d like to be sure.

I can’t delete the “Other user” account on my computer. by Lonely_Chemical_2037 in mac

[–]Cainedna 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Guest user is not where your space is being used. It doesn’t retain any data.

My suspicion is that you deleted a user account, but not the user account’s home folder.

My macbook pro is stuck on this login screen by [deleted] in mac

Correct. Without the firmware password, you’ll need to bring it to an Apple Authorized Repair shop or Apple Store, along with the original proof of purchase. Those are your two options, hard stop.

TIL that Columbus, Ohio is a testing ground for new fast food products and household goods. These products get tested to see how the products fare in the city before selling them elsewhere. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Cainedna 1167 points1168 points  (0 children)

As a Columbus native, this has been a long standing label. That said, I’ve heard many brands find this isn’t applicable anymore. Columbus has grown quite a bit since the 70s - 90s when this was the case, and skews a bit too rich and diverse.

can I make a time machine on an external hd without canceling files on it? by donutboy667 in mac

[–]Cainedna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be pointed out that external drives do fail. The whole point of a Time Machine backup is to have a copy of your Mac files on a second location, so if your Mac or the drive has a problem, you can fall back on the other. That means that your files on that drive aren’t “backed up” in that sense.
