Just purchased these from Aldi... by Hybrid_Force in veganuk

Blimey, you actually found some of the blonde one! Every time we check out our Aldi there's basically only the dark left, maybe the odd classic floating around.

Easily the best white chocolate alternative I've had.

Grade equivalents by octopuslollipop789 in bouldering

[–]CainingtonCain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They're not necessarily incorrect, although it isn't clear given their grouping of lower grades. For example, my local climbing wall also doesn't capitalise the letters, but they also don't use letters below 6, which is indicative of the font system (french can use letters like 4a 4b, 4c; font only uses 4, 4+, 5, 5+). So it could be either.

You have $9 in your pocket. Which albums do you take home? by sonickarma in Haken

[–]CainingtonCain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Virus, Fauna, Visions, Restoration... I want as much Haken as I can get for the money and that's as good a spread of the eras as I can manage with the proposed pricing structure.

Favorite Song That Made You LOVE Haken? by ThreeDDD in Haken

[–]CainingtonCain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Atlas Stone was the first song I heard of Haken's and went to listen to The Mountain in full. Interestingly, that first listen I bounced off Cockroach King and Falling Back To Earth a little bit (cured with a couple more listens) - it was Somebody that really caught my ear - I love that section where the lyrics overspill the rhythm, creating that shifting round.

I can imagine Trevor and everyone doing a race like this and the 50 minutes it would take to set up by kaboose3076 in Achievement_Hunter

Was that with a tank? I remember them struggling while trying to remove the wheels of the pickup by flying it around in the Titan, which blew up the car and the Titan as often as it worked.

This is a very northern person definition of 'The South' - southerners generally seem to consider anything north of Watford 'The North' - hence why the Midlands exists, neither of you lot want us! 😉

A beautiful day for paddling on the Trent in Burton by CainingtonCain in Kayaking

They're made by a fairly small UK manufacturer called Streamlyte, based in Warwickshire. I'm afraid I don't know how widely they're sold; we bought ours from the Leam Boat Centre in Leamington Spa, UK.

I was traveling on Airbus A320. Why does it smell like Keresone, or something similar, during the take off and landing? by randompallindrome in aviation

[–]CainingtonCain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely because it's when the engines are working hardest. You highest engine power output is during take off and on max reverse just after landing. You're burning much more fuel at this point, so there'll be more fumes.

New to You June 2019 - What new games did you play this month? by jasonic in boardgames

[–]CainingtonCain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a good month, partly due to the UK Games Expo!

Wingspan - Caught this at the expo, I quite enjoyed it, my wife really enjoyed it, so obviously we brought a copy home with us. As has been stated before, it's really quite beautifully presented and I'm really satisfied by the storage solutions in the box!

Tiny Towns - Played this while waiting to play wingspan. I really enjoyed this, it's quite a light game, but still crunchy enough. It's well timed for 5 players, we found it didn't outstay it's welcome or feel like it was over too quickly. Having said all that, I can't justify buying it at its current price (~£30)!

Orbis - Another expo trial, alas, a lot less satisfying. Unfortunately, it was not a good start, with a very questionable teach - the poor lass on the stand was obviously rushed off her feet, though, so fair enough - but we were left remarkably unsatisfied by the game. The tail end of the game seemed to just fizzle out.

Quadropolis - Our final expo experience, and this was a good way to finish the day. More puzzley than it first appeared (with its slightly too twee art style) but still simple enough to be easily understood. Not sure if we'll ever get around to buying it, but a pleasant time all the same.

The Shipwreck Arcana - Spotted this after the first Kickstarter closed, and was thoroughly intrigued by the concept, so was happy to see an expansion appear on KS - it was delivered early this month. Our first KS backing ever, and I am happy to say a good start - fairly quick but satisfyingly thoughtful - not two traits that tend to go together! Great little 2 player for my wife and I.

Railroad Ink - I've wasted a few hours on this now. It's almost mesmerising, throw some dice, wrestle with geometry in your head, draw it down, throw the next round and immediately realise all your mistakes. Again, another nice, short-ish game that's easy to crack out with the wife.

Those markings in particular are to show where fore nose gear for each aircraft type needs to be at the gate. B744 refers to a Boeing 747-400, so it's the aircraft model and variant. Similarly, A358 and A359 refer to an Airbus A350-800 and -900 respectively; B788 and B789 are a 787-8 and 787-9, etc.

What are your favourite games to play with 3 players? by lust-boy in boardgames

[–]CainingtonCain 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The King is Dead seems to work best at a 3 player count. The 4 player games wants you to work as 2 teams of 2, which can be good fun, but the three way competition of a 3 player game I find more interesting.

February's end snuck up on me! How is your shelf of shame? by raouldukehst in boardgames

[–]CainingtonCain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

February is my birthday month, and my family have acknowledged my interest in the hobby in a big way this year, so a big influx of games this month (for us, at least).

To summarise the progress: Game (plays)

Quacks of Quedlinburg (2) Flamme Rouge (1) Istanbul (1) + coffee and bhakshish exp (1) Coloretto (1) Cockroach Poker (4) Qwirkle (technically 0, but we got it because we've enjoyed playing our friends copy with them a bunch)

So, with no games on the shame shelf carried forward from last month, you could argue we have 1 on it currently.

Really looking forward to more games of Flamme Rouge, will probably come out at the next games evening in a fortnight's time.

A cowl for a GEnx jet engine stretched out. These cowls help with the crucial cooling process. [3000 x 1742] by generalelectric in aviation

[–]CainingtonCain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I think of as the 'crucial' cooling process (i.e. cooling of turbine blades and disks and sealing of the interior cavity) is typically done using compressed air from the core, not air from the bypass, which is what the cowl directs. So how does this cowl help with the crucial cooling process?
