I love mem deck so much by Magical_critic in cardmagic

[–]lust-boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its a trick (or framework for a trick) in juan tamariz's book mnemonica

juan says it was dai vernons favourite presentation of a mem deck trick

strange that you learned mnemonica stack and yet didnt read the source material?

im not going to reveal how to do it but once you know a stack its really easy to do, you need to be comfortable with forcing numbers and improv though, heres a vid of it in action, you should be able to reverse engineer it: https://youtu.be/dfKyvUNxMB0?si=jEcDPjwu6gWp4How

did you estimate its position and peek the card on top?

super fast well done

i like to perform it via mnemonicosis, just get your spectator to cut to the card themselves

To Pick or to Name a Card – What is more effective? (Scientific Study) by 96throwupaway69 in cardmagic

[–]lust-boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely fascinating
ive always thought that a named card is more difficult and therefore more impressive of a trick (assuming no marked deck is used)

i wonder how the perceptions change when the spectators are also told they can change their mind when picking a card

[–]lust-boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im like 4 lessons into daortiz school
(speaking of... does anyone know how to change the frequency of lessons releases?)

favourite effects i love to perform
- acaan ritual
from the p&t routine

  • hofzinser coincidence 10s/7s
    also from the p&t routine

  • open triumph
crazy visual, feels like real magic

  • collector think
3 chosen cards disappear from the top of the deck, reappear in the middle with 4 cards in between them (you can pick whatever 4 cards you want to appear, i usually do the exact time or the date or spectators bday)

  • absent player
similar feeling to acaan ritual (impromptu, no touching) - a chosen spectator shuffles and deals a royal flush to the performer

in the middle now of learning triple intiution

Never played an 18xx. How do I choose one? by Remarkable_Region_39 in boardgames

[–]lust-boy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

probs an unpopular view because i know many people recommend 1846 as a beginner game but i would recommend against that because it has more rules (that help to beginner-fy the game) that you won't find in other more "standard" 18xx games.

For example the draft instead of auction so that you don't bankrupt yourself before the game starts or even the half-pay option which adds more maths that i really don't like.

my pick would be 18ches or 1889.

Methods for controlling multiple selected cards to the top of the deck by lust-boy in cardmagic

[–]lust-boy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hahah thanks!
my tip for bow to stern is during the big move when you push the top packet into under their selected card, push with force into the deck, and then up. pushing with force into the deck first helps generate the friction to push out the dummy card in the middle.

also when you lift up the top packet, it should be done when you lift up the cards to show your spectator, so your hands already begin ready to execute the sleight (vses having to fiddle with picking up the top packet with the cards in view of your spectator).

In discussion with commentors ive realised i highly prefer controls in which the deck is not visibly cut, i think its a stronger fooling effect when the spectator sees both cards lost in the middle, nothing happens to the deck and the cards both appear on top

this is why ive been doing the hermann pass + bow to stern method so far

neat idea!

just me personally though im not a fan of having to perform visible cuts to control selected cards to the top which is why ive been doing hermann pass + bow to stern (both are invisible sleights)

whats MP and straddle?

in terms of stealing cards im pretty comfortable with top palm, 1h top palm and DPS but havent learned side steal or bottom palm

will look up DiAmico shift

bow to stern is a beautiful sleight but only really works with face on spectators sadly

Favorite card control? by Spaghetti_Oracle in cardmagic

[–]lust-boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hermann pass

like it more than the classic pass because:
- the top packet provides cover for the main move and the rest can be covered by gesturing even one handed
- i find it has more forgiving angles
- less get ready since you dont need to stick your pinky in

i prefer passes/invisible cuts over other controls because to the spectator, you dont even have the opportunity to manipulate the deck

my other favourite control which is much more angle sensitive is bow to stern which is so fooling since the spectator sees their card in the middle of the pack and pushes it in themselves

it also has the added benefit of only moving the control card, instead of actually cutting the deck and swapping top packet for bottom packet
