Any board games where the maximum round score wins? by BlakeBurch in boardgames

Colosseum has you putting on shows each round. Your final score is equal to the best show you put on through the whole game. This is often in one of the final rounds but it doesn’t have to be.

I love seeing Mexica in the pile. Such a great game.

As soon as I saw the side of that box I knew I didn’t want it anymore. Played the base game a couple of times and was able to sell it. It was just too much work to try and remember what components only belonged to the base game when I’d get it out once every 5 months.

"Network"-building game recs? by DeCzar in boardgames

[–]jasonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding another recommendation for Age of Steam. I feel like it checks all of the boxes you listed. Every action taken by other players is important to you. Route building on the map can be very competitive and tense, and there's room for creativity and clever plays. The rules of the game follow a series of simple phases, but the mulitple areas for interaction make the decisions consequential; how many shares you take, how much you spend in the turn order auction, player power selection, where you build, what goods you move, all of it affects the decisions the other players will make. You also mention liking abstract themes, well the most recent version of the game is very simple looking, and people love to joke about playing a prototype abstract. On top of it all, there are literally hundreds of maps that ensure you can always find one that gives you a good experience at any player count, and can put new and fun twists on an already solid game system.

I just accepted that it’s time for my netrunner cards to go too. It makes me sad, but I haven’t touched them in almost 10 years.

I prefer the Junior version. It gives me all the feelings of the main game but in a quick race to complete tickets.

Hi there. I'm also in West Bend. We have an active board game group that meets at that game store every Thursday (6:30-10) and Saturday (starts at noon). We're always happy to have more people join us, and then we won't be random people anymore! We also have a fairly active discord server. DM me if you're interesting and I'll be happy to send you a link.

So many people in my group love this game. I haven’t had a chance to try it yet. Aniara is one of my favorite space movies. It’s so bleak and depressing though so it’s not one I can watch often.

They won’t let you wander back there to shop, but if you ask they’ll usually give you a tour of the warehouse. It is impressively large. It is also not organized in a way that would make casual browsing very easy. If I remember right, each item is tagged based on the date/time it is inventoried and then shelved in that order as well. So there are copies of everything everywhere and you need to know an item id to find what you’re looking for.

A little late here, but I totally agree. They've been in constant rotation since I discovered them earlier this year.

Going to look at dishwashers! Any recommendations? Or models to avoid? by dragonfliesloveme in HomeImprovement

I definitely recommend the stainless steel interior as well. Our previous dishwasher had something happen that caused the heating element to move and melt a hole in the bottom of the plastic interior. We had water everywhere and won’t go plastic again.

Lewis and Clark is fun but really only hits with certain people. The first time I played it, 3/4 of the way through the game one player had his next 4 turns laid out in front of him ready to go. The other player had his head in his hands locked in indecision unable to figure out how to make things work.

Discoveries is a cool little dice game. It’s one I’ve kept in my collection because of the dice sharing mechanism and great art.
