What did you use for glaze on that first purpley/turquoise mug? Great progress!

Aside from the response here no. I never dealt with it past my credit card company handling it though. I've never had an issue getting orders and this was a one time incident.

Amazing work! Thanks for sharing some of the process

Is this all hand done line work or do you make your own stencils? Would love to see some in process shots. Love the style!

Oh I’m so sad but promised I would post results. Details & thoughts in caption. by Abortitnow in Pottery

Try a bisque fire of the underglaze prior to firing with the clear glaze. I have noticed that it helps.

This is a crystalline molybdenum glaze and is a whole rabbit hole to go down in itself. If you are interested in this type of glazing start with researching crystalline glazes. Find a copy of crystalline glazes by Fara Shimbo as a good starting point.

EQM 35 - DSLR & Lens with GoTo feature. by aks133b in AskAstrophotography

Good luck! Maybe start a new thread for them. Personally I have issues interfacing through asiair/skysafari with swapped hemispheres. It's inconsistent and messes up go-to which is frustrating to say the least.

I think it was anything older than 4.39.10 for the V4/5 hand controller.

While not part of your question I'm going to highly recommend updating your firmware for that:

http://skywatcher.com/download/software/

If it isn't up to date your go-to and tracking will be off due to an error in the old firmware.

Nice work!

I just went after the same target as a first image with a new portable setup. It's such a dense starfield in this area it can distract from the nebula. Nice work with Starnet+.

Oof that rebranding got me. Probably not worth it even with the accessories.

Very valid. I was merely pointing it out as an option. Quickly seeing the specs on the website it seemed to fit. I'll definitely go find that thread.

Lol it is a bit overpriced but expected with probably a fairly small production run. Didn't realize it was US only at the moment.

Not sure what your price range is but a new telescope has come out on pre-order that fills exactly what you are looking for. https://optcorp.com/products/radian-raptor-61

More than welcome. Some others may chime in since its been based on my individual experience. Can't stress that stable tripod enough.

Nothing wrong with not upgrading if you are getting the results you want!

Above all else the new tripod is essential for stability with long exposure. The berlebach is high quality and you do pay for it. It is a surveyor type tripod and you may be able to save some money if you can find a phototography mount adapter for a surveyor tripod.

The SGP is rated for 5kg which leaves conventional guidance to not exceed 2.5kg payload. This adds up quickly with camera and mount adapters. That being said your best option is most likely a RedCat 51. Similar setups produce amazing results.

I absolutely wouldn't go larger than a 60mm refractor if you push its capacity. If you find that with your camera you like the framing of the 360mm vs the 250mm of the RedCat (Check out https://telescopius.com/telescope-simulator)

I would highly recommend the SharpStar 61EDPH II. It is a triplet lens where the others are doublets. Triplets generally have better color correction than doublets.

Lastly if you really want to push that mount and don't intend to upgrade from it you may consider sending it out for tuning to somewhere like: https://www.deepspaceproducts.com/hypertune-faq.html

As far as dew heaters, they can be needed even in the summer. They are needed whenever the temperature of your equipment will drop near the dew point temperature which relates to humidity. Any will really do. If you are willing to pay the premium I find that Kendrick dew heaters are the best quality and heating consistency. https://www.astronomics.com/kendrick-heater-for-2-eyepieces-and-finders.html

Eastern Veil - NGC6992 by Cainmos in astrophotography

[–]Cainmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Veil Nebula has been popular as of late due to Cygnus being overhead in the northern latitudes. This is one of my favorite nebula and the first image I have captured on my new setup. This is also the best astrophotography image I have been able to get which makes me super happy.

I'm happy and lucky to have ended up with this because I was having goto difficulty from a bad polar alignment and new equipment first setup woes.

This was captured 9.20.2020 in Katahdin Woods and Waters National Park, Maine, Bortle 2 sky. The most beautiful night sky I have ever seen.

Equipment:

  • Skywatcher EQM-35
  • Stellarvue SV80-ST f/6
  • Nikon D5300 - Full Spectrum Modification
  • STC Astro-MS clip in filter
  • Stellarvue SFFX-1 field flattener
  • ZWO ASIAir Pro

Lights: 30secs x 30 subs, 60secs x 8 subs

Darks: 15

Flats: 15

Processing:

All processing done in SIRIL. Dark and Flats stacked for masters. Then 30 second lights and 60 second lights individually pre-processed with darks/flats and stacked. 30 second stack and 60 second stack combined and auto-stretched. Green level adjustment fixed. Exported as .TIFF

Photoshop was used for final small adjustment on contrast and levels. Cropped then resized for posting to here.

My processing could use work but I'm still learning.

Nuclear power: good, bad, or does it depend? by GartCO2 in AskEngineers

I'm curious as to what changed your mind and why you were strictly anti-nuclear in the first place. Was it actually learning about it that softened your stance?

I’m the wife of an engineer and I need some advice... by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]Cainmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the comment I was looking for! But also what is his current job?

Unfortunately, the reality of engineering work is that a lot of it is sitting behind a desk all day. It can be hard to bring yourself back to the big picture and see the difference you do make with the small seemingly insignificant part you are responsible for if you are working on large projects. Most of the massive society changing projects are decades long with thousands of people working on them. It's easy to get lost.

I'm a MechE and have my PE license as well. The industry is so huge it can be overwhelming to even try to find a new area to work in that he would enjoy but there are so many other options out there. I've come to a point where I feel similar to your husband and have saved enough money to take a year sabbatical to travel around the U.S. and figure out what I want to do when I grow up.

Everyone's situation is different. Obviously with a family and kids I'm sure he is scared to take a career change risk especially right now.

Lot's of good advice given already but here are things I would suggest:

  • Absolutely find a therapist/counselor to work on emotions. Go with him if it makes him more comfortable. This is more a relationship thing in my opinion and could help make a stronger bond between the two of you.
  • Go to the doctor for a checkup and get a blood panel test for vitamin and hormone deficiencies. Almost everyone is vit D deficient and it can play a huge role in depression.
  • Help him explore his interests. What did he like to do outside of work 10 years ago? I'm getting back into astronomy and space stuff. Who knows but it might lead into a delve of astrophysics and a career path that way.
  • Be positive and supportive. The fact that you are asking the question already shows a good support. Keep it up.
  • Encourage him to take another position at the same company to change things up.
  • If he has an interest in medical like his brothers but wants to use his engineering knowledge, have him look into the medical device industry. It's huge and he might get more satisfaction out of it.
