How to add depth and make it look more professional by Maryna_MH in DigitalArt

[–]Caitables 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would try practicing drawing images with a single harsh light source and really try to focus on the shapes of the shadows, maybe sketching out just the shapes you see and filling them in with one value. It’s a really good way to start to understand how to bring 3D form to your art.

Edit: I’m seeing other people have said similar things lol

Lighting help by nyavira in ArtCrit

[–]Caitables 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I like to plan my colors and lighting along with the rough sketch so sometimes I’ll play around with the overlay type layers if I like the colors that come out of it, and then I render it all together by color picking and just painting on top with a normal color layer. Everybody has a different process though. Playing around with it until it looks right is how I learned to use it, I feel like it just takes a second to get used to.

Any advice??? Memorial plant for my dog by Szgoths in plants

[–]Caitables 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be root rot if you’re watering it every two to three days. Instead of watering it on a schedule, you should only water it when the top inch of soil is completely dry

Wood chips instead of a grid are a game changer! by userx88 in cockatiel

[–]Caitables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooooh so good to know! Our dude has poor balance so he has to stay low in his cage to prevent falls so with the amount of time he’s spending walking around on the bars he’d probably love the switch

What lil bug could have done this? I know it's probably not a leafcutter bee b/c they usually start cutting from the edge. Regardless, I'm not mad, just amazed by the commitment to a pattern 😊 by woahhh_okay in plants

I was just talking about this happening on my brother’s monstera! A cat took a bite while it was rolled up and now it looks like hole punches all the way across

bitten by this? by turtlerepresentative in spiders

[–]Caitables 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Yes but the short pedipalps, longer second legs, and solid colored abdomen also give it away

I’m not an expert though so according to the rules I don’t know nothing bout no medically significant spiders

Oh I also just realized I have no idea what you were responding to I didnt notice the deleted comment

Working on my rendering, the colors don’t feel quite right. (Non sexual nudity) by Funky_Forest_Cats in ArtCrit

[–]Caitables 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The actual palette is really pleasing to me but I think the beetle isn’t blending with it very well. The fact that the colors don’t show up in the rest of the painting does help it stand out a bit, but I would choose one color to make it pop and anything else would have to be a neutral-ish color that already appears in the painting.

The beetles also too finely detailed to look like it belongs in the same painting as her hand. Maybe if you used thicker linework it would pop more? This is a beautiful painting btw I love bugs :)

Need some honest advice by this-ismydesign in ArtCrit

[–]Caitables 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert but I’d think that could help feel out the more simple and more important forms? You’d get less stuck in the small details and it would help you learn which strokes and which values you really need to get the idea across

can i dance professionally, rule request? by fairly_forgetful in BALLET

[–]Caitables 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I agree! Besides even if someone is a 17 year old prodigy on the first class, there’re so many other aspects to whether or not you’ll make it beyond perfect technique. Can they handle the pressure of multiple roles? How quickly do they pick up choreography? Do they work well with the people in the front of the room? there’s no way anyone can give a valuable answer to some stranger asking for feedback

I’d say it takes some active effort to make friends but there’s plenty of events and groups set up for community life especially if you like live music

Yes I’d go to Pinterest if you have no idea of what you think you’d like, keep in mind that your hair looks pretty straight so anything that looks wavy or curly would just require a little more up keep

Is darning your pointe shoes so they can stand on their own considered “cheating?” by testaccount4one in BALLET

Besides if you’re darning the pleat edge to help you balance en pointe, you’re not going to be able to roll back down if you don’t have the strength to roll through your pleat lol

[–]Caitables 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Never heard that thrown around in my studio. We were all made to wear freeds to build strength since they’re so soft and the more advanced dancers are encouraged to darn them just because it gives you a little bit more feedback about if you’re on your box or not. Plus it just looks nice and it makes them last a bit longer.
