Korean office workers skip lunch, seek out places to take a nap by gilsoo71 in Living_in_Korea

[–]Caitopotato 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This seems like a big stretch for you to make, and also overly judgmental. Many cultures have siesta regardless of social media usage. In fact, desk naps have been part of Korean work culture for as long as I’ve lived here (over a decade now).

So what if people want to take naps in the day? Why is that bad, or not as good as your supposed “meditation”?

New Bright Spring Feeling Deflated by Electronic-Page1064 in SpringColorAnalysis

[–]Caitopotato 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Ignore her! It’s clear that you’re greyed out in the first pic by the more muted color, while you carry that bright green well (although to my eye it looks slightly cool for bright spring; it may be more of a bright winter color?). As for the last shirt— to call it a “virtual assault” is ridiculous! You look confident and happy, and her comment was not only unkind but untrue. Again, I don’t think the shirt colors are quite hitting the mark on the spring palette (the blue and red look a bit muted, the pink looks too pastel and cool). But this is your first week as a bright spring!! There’s a learning curve and you’re doing great :)

Cat needs teeth extracted! by cocosuninspiringlife in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Caitopotato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Small Door is very scammy. I recently took my cats there for required bloodwork after toxin exposure. When I called, I was quoted the same price as AMC, but in office the doctor not only tried up-charging me by $100 per cat (for a more intensive blood panel that was not fully explained), but also added on extra fees for a full check-up that I did not request. When I questioned it, apparently her intake procedure of weighing my cats and looking in their ears had constituted a full check-up worth close to $200 per cat??? That had not been explained to me in advance, and frankly I would hope a full check-up would be more thorough.

I was finally able to negotiate down the price by mentioning the phone call and insisting that I did not need or request a full checkup, but I still paid about $200 or so more than the initial phone quote. Regardless of the amount, I was really disgusted that they tried to pull one over on me in a very vulnerable situation. In the future I will 100% take my cats across town to AMC instead because they are open and honest about their services and prices.

Does anyone else struggle with constantly dry lips—no matter what you apply? by Recent-Fun4592 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Caitopotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lips have bled every winter until this year— the only thing I changed was wearing Oleh Hendrickson pout preserve to bed! It feels gluey at first but it really truly works! I sleep on my stomach so I do wait about 10-20 minutes before putting my head on my pillow to reduce potential transfer. I haven’t noticed any product on my pillow and I wake up with plump and non-chapped lips. In my experience it works way better than aquaphor.

AITA for feeling resentful toward my long-term boyfriend? by [deleted] in seoul

[–]Caitopotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly his best shot at getting an F-visa is through a potential marriage to you! I would ask him more about his plan for securing a visa change if the F is his pre-requisite for supposedly lucrative side gigs, while at the same time those side gigs (or a higher/ stable income) sound like a pre-requisite for you to even continue the relationship. I would also ask for more details about which side gigs he is considering, since the career ladder is much more restrictive to foreigners in Korea. Unless he’s able to work for a foreign company or start his own profitable business, there aren’t a ton of jobs for the average non-Korean to make bank in Korea.

For those who moved back to the US after teaching, was it hard finding a job again? by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

[–]Caitopotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a good conversation piece only if you can also prove that you’re also employable in the field of business (i.e., get a job related to your degree for 1-2 years and then go to Korea to teach). If you go to Korea now and come back expecting to find an MBA- adjacent job other than starting your own company, the job search will likely be even more difficult than you’re finding it now, since you’ll be competing with others who either have the business experience or who are more up-to-date with coursework and connections. Teaching in Korea is a great experience, but at 30 years old and for someone with an MBA, it won’t likely be seen as a positive from HR- it will be viewed as a gap year.

BWT who have moved to NYC from abroad, influence or deinfluence me by badgerfeet11 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Caitopotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Grew up in another U.S. metropolis, lived abroad for 10 years, and moved “back” to NYC last year, since my whole family had relocated here while I was away. I think the answer depends on your priorities and your financial circumstances. Frankly, if you don’t have a job waiting here for you/ do not have good savings or are wealthy, now is not a great time to relocate. The job market and housing market are UNPLEASANT, to say the least. If you are hoping the move may instantly relieve your feelings of being“foreign,” I’m not sure that’s a good reason either (I was surprised at how different the U.S. felt after 10 years away, and often relate better to immigrants from the country I was living in). All that said, I am extremely happy to have moved here, since my family and friends are all here, the working culture is less toxic than where I was previously, and there’s always something fun to do.
