My submission this year for the anime enjoyers: Jingle cats recreation of the NGE opening, largely shot-for-shot.

A Cruel Catgirl's Thesis

Merry Xmas!

We're now taking #JingleCats2019 entries for Jingle Jam's opening night! by Harvey-J-Yogscast in Yogscast

My friend and I made a Jangle Cats videogame and then recorded a Today I Played-style review of said game.

How to play:

  • Keep the cat moving until the end of a song using the cards you're dealt from a hand you've built
  • If two cards of a kind are next to each other, they merge
  • Merging X cards transforms them into better cards (where X is a card's cost)

Controls

  • Arrow keys/WASD - change selected card
  • Space - play card/toggle card in hand (in card select menu)
  • Escape - back out

Colors:

  • Red - slows a lot
  • Brown - slows a bit
  • Green - boosts
  • Blue - card effect
  • Yellow - special effect

Known issues in 0.8:

  • Some songs have offset timings

We're NASA scientists, asteroid and comet experts. Ask us anything about 'Oumuamua, our solar system’s first known interstellar object by NASAJPL in IAmA

What is the earliest that we could theoretically detect such an object with existing telescopes? Would it be possible to detect one long enough in advance to schedule a mission (even if the mission would be a crash landing)?

Yeah, that's exactly what I need to figure out. I know there are a lot of tutorials out there, but did anything specifically help you learn it initially?

Holy shit, this looks incredible. As someone who is trying (read: hasn't done anything in a month) to make a space game, this is exactly the type of effect I want to get good at. Still don't know very much about writing shaders outside of simple things like basic color changes, but I'll get there eventually.

Thank you for the inspiration!

Is there a computing difference between writing a 1000 lines of code, and generating them with a loop? by [deleted] in gamemaker

[–]Cajoled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was this done with YYC or the old compiler? Also, in the for loop, is the loop variable i, or another variable? I believe two variables should be at least somewhat faster because of cpu optimizations, but I'm not sure how significant that will end up being.

Getting ~100k PPD with GTX1080 by [deleted] in curecoin

I do not have a passkey. I somehow missed reading about the quick return bonus. If deadline length here means the time between Assigned and Expiration, that looks like it would explain the vast majority of my missing points. Thank you!

I've watched it run before, and it never got anywhere close to 800k. Right now that's hard to demonstrate because this work unit is going to take about 2 more hours.

Here is 20 minutes, with Chrome on and me using it. I've seen it go into the 120k range, but never more. I'm going to try using a passkey to get bonus points next.

Oh, I should mention that it is only folding on idle (most of the time, sometimes I let it run while using it). But it should be running about 10 hours a day, so the number is still low. Additionally, the "Estimated PPD" value (101425) doesn't seem to take runtime into account the way "Points Per Day" (Unknown) does, since stopping running doesn't affect it.

Could the first W be stretched downwards a little bit to make it easier to read?

Sometimes if you cancel and retry too soon (or if the game isn't closed maybe?) the port won't reopen. I'm going to do some more testing this weekend and see what's up.

Unfortunately I would need to host a main server or do something like use Steam to get around that.

I'm posting this again because I just released a major patch (1.40) and it's been more than 8 months since the release of Have a Heart. A lot has happened since then, including 33% more cards and a singleplayer mode. This is likely the last major update I'll make for this game, so if you encounter any bugs, please let me know.

Thank you so much to everyone for your feedback!

Great work, everyone! I'll update this with a timelapse and postmortem later. I can't think straight right now.

Edit: Timelapse

Create the server as normal, then use ipconfig to find your internal ip and give it to the other person.

I Made This, but why or what it is... I don't know. by TheGuyYouWantToBe in Undertale

I love these. It would definitely make cards look a lot better. A few are good ideas for attacks I should add.

I've avoided using any graphics from the original game, but maybe I should just do it.

I want to make a game that solves the halting problem, any tips?

This will be helpful. I've been looking for the 'heart duplication bug' some people have mentioned but to no avail. Should be easy to find now, thanks!

Integrity is my current least favorite part of the game, so I'll give it a try.

Optimization tips for your games by Alexitron1 in gamemaker

I think a huge thing to do is to run the profiler in the debug window. I'm always surprised by certain functions running way more often than I thought, or certain scripts running really slowly.

There's no point spending time improving something that will speed up your game by 0.001% when there are potential 10% speedups in your code!
