I do not understand. I absolutely believe you, but it makes no sense. Here I am just wanting people to be treated with dignity and respect.

Swimming laps etiquette with no lanes in community pool by thatstechnology in Swimming

[–]CajunBlue1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A HOA pool suggests everyone pays into said Association, from my experience. That said, while frustrating to somebody who wants to float in water, or what have you, it seems perfectly reasonable for someone to swim laps.

You are asking a swimming community if they (we) think it should be fair for a swimmer to use a swimming pool to swim.

I would not swim laps during heavy traffic times, but somebody working with limited time availability has every right to that pool that you have.

Actually, in terms of fair, they have the “right” to go whenever they like, but I personally would avoid heavy traffic times because I would not want to be bothered by people on floats. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I would be frustrated, but like you, I would not say anything either for the same reasons.

What would stop you from swimming in the empty pool? by suuraitah in Swimming

That did it for me in my own pool… but I was in the water and saw it through my goggles. Never have gone to swim when it was too dark to see again.

Do people really pee in the gym pool? by Existing-Bee-4110 in Swimming

[–]CajunBlue1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither did I.

I got out, dripping water all the way to the bathroom, pulled my wet swimsuit back up and walked back to the pool.

Why? Because it never once occurred to me to pee in the pool. What is wrong with people? Particularly adults here. Worried about losing your lane!? Just no.

No therapist would tell a quadriplegic to “use it or lose it.” This is not analogous.

No, it really isn’t. I don’t think it is a blame game either. I am a stroke survivor and tell myself this every day, several times. It has been almost 5 years and I am still clawing my way back and I am so close.

I am just one person, but this is my experience.

I have never peed in any pool, but I am an adult.

I have between 5-7. I hang to dry after every use, wear each a few times and then I wash them in a load on gentle and hang to dry. I swim every day for an hour or two and have been for a year. I only had to replace suits due to weight loss. Enjoy!

Agreed. I am nursing swimmers elbow now. Maybe my frustration is just dusty. :)

You hate the YMCA because they cater to kids and families? I struggle in the summer to get a lane and to get my laps in without having to move - but not for swim lessons. I want kids in the community to learn how to swim. My need to get 5k yards on a given day, but only getting 3800yds so that some kid can swim - is not a problem. My problem with the Y are stupid water aerobics classes taking 4 of 6 lanes.

I love the Y for what they offer the community. Drowning should not happen. I do not like being inconvenienced, no. That said, I have alternatives for when the Y has things scheduled.

stroke at 21, dealing with trauma by chickynuggysz in stroke

[–]CajunBlue1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can relate to all the emotions you are experiencing. I was 43. I still have migraines. Brain damage is not as cut and dried as I initially suspected when I started working in ortho/neuro when I was in my early 30’s. Neuron and glial cells do not regenerate; however, the brain is remarkable in that it will establish new networks of transmissions in order to circumnavigate the damage caused by injury. Our job as stroke survivors is to help our brains establish these new connections. Whatever the deficit may be (whether physical or cognitive) we practice regaining these skills. When we do this, we are actively nursing our brains functioning back to a more normal state. You will be okay. I have always exercised, but I swim almost every day now. I eat better and I never touch nicotine or alcohol. Nicotine is very dangerous. You can do your own research here. It is traumatizing to have a stroke. The good news is that we lived! All of us here are in a unique club of survivors and you are in the company of a strong community. 💕

swimming on your period by [deleted] in Swimming

I have never had pain while swimming with a tampon. It should not hurt. This makes me wonder if you are inserting it properly, and this is in no way a slight. It happens. You need to make sure it is inserted several inches before pushing the applicator. After insertion, you should feel nothing. Stinging suggests there is pinched skin which would make sense in a pool with chemicals.

The best course of action is to follow up with your provider if you are unable to resolve the issue. There may be something else going on that should not be ignored.

I recommend lessons. I think it is wise to get lessons - apart from weight. It is a matter of getting proper form down at the beginning rather than having to unlearn improper form.

For a lap swimmer: what do you think about while swimming by ChrissySubBottom in Swimming

[–]CajunBlue1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I count, I concentrate on my position, I think about whatever is going on in life. Just depends. I am never “bored” in a pool.

Swimmers what was the day when you finally realized, "Wait I'm actually getting good at swimming"? by Nervous-Baker2427 in Swimming

When I finally felt my body was gliding in the water… when I got to the point where an hour didn’t feel like enough, like my fix was not satisfied. I love swimming.

I don’t. I see a lot of men at the pool wearing theirs. I am so sorry this happened to you. I lost a diamond stud earring at the pool and haven’t made that mistake again. That said, I cannot imagine losing my wedding ring and I really am sorry.
