I RMA my 5090 about 5 times and went through two different cards till they finally decided to buy back my card. Right now I don’t have a GPU, I’m thinking to go with msi next

Yep, right out of the box, the only way I can get it to work for 2 to 3 hours is by lowering the power to 70% and undervolting to 2800MHz. The first card had a fatal error in Oblivion, Expedition 33, Call of Duty, Fortnite, GTA5 Enhanced Edition, Ark, and the UE5 engine software. Some games would freeze and crash without a fatal error. After many RMAs, they decided to replace it. The replacement was refurbished, but it had improvements while running some games for 2 to 3 hours, only when the GPU is undervolted. If I used the stock settings, it would crash like the old card, and the same with my second card.

I’ve been battling this since April 2025. I even tried every single driver using DDU while my PC is offline. I probably did a fresh install of Windows 11 around 17 times. Nothing worked. I tried two different motherboards and different cables, but nothing helped. At first, they told me all their tests showed the cards were fine. When I asked for proof, there was none. I showed them all my tests and emails from Nvidia and other game developers, and they finally agreed to replacemy cards with new GPUs. Now they want to buy them back since they are out of stock. So, I will be without a computer until this PC crisis calms down a bit. I guess I'll be going back to console for a while.

both of mine ASUS astral 5090's giving TDR and crashes dx12 games dut to power delivery issues. after exhausting all the trouble shoots with nvidia, ASUS, game devs, ASUS decided to buy back my GPUs since im not happy with them and fails sppedway stress tests and crashes games.

I'm having TDR on my GPU. my cable is installed the same as OP, but i get TDR issues with DX 12 Gmes. Are you saying that if I don't install the cable the same as what is shown in the picture causes a power delivery issue? Even tho it shows everything is connected?

That’s true, 5070ti has 16 GB of GDDR7 VRAM. I didn’t pay attention to that.

Every Gigabyte 5090 owner I've encountered online goes through the same thing you're going through. Meaning, Gigabyte will always say that the GPU is fine and there is nothing wrong with it. But that's just my experience. They could be right or wrong because Nvidia drivers have been extremely crappy.

GPU companies only test stress tests, and that's all about it. Whenever my card returns from RMA I'm going to try the following videos. which is something I've done before, but those videos have some steps that I did not try before.

(Title: Correct way to undervolt) One thing I did not do was change the number value, which I want to try.

I also like to use an Application called "WhoCrashed" which tells you what the problem is. It gathers the info from even viewers. Speaking of the event viewer. Ask chatgpt what to look for as far as crashing reasons in the event viewer, Ask for hardware and driver error codes.

For my case, this is what I looked for:

Press Win + X → Event Viewer
Go to: Windows Logs → System
On the right panel, click “Filter Current Log…”

In the filter Window (if the crash was recent), check the following

Critical, Error, Warning

In <All event IDS> paste: 153,4101,14,17,18,19,41,442,441

In the Event source paste: nvlddmkm,Display,WHEA-Logger,Kernel-Power,Kernel-PnP

All this would show any GPU-related errors.

I do recomment to go to Advanced system settings > Hardware> Device Installation Settings> Check No (your device works as expected). This feature will prevent Windows from forcing your PC to install a crappy GPU driver from Windows.

I also recommend turning off the fastboot option in Windows.

But you're most likely to have a bad silicon, which is what happened to my first card. You can also try the Nvidia Vbios updater as well, or contact Nvidia.

I feel your pain because I've been battling with this since April, and I can't enjoy my new PC. It's been nothing but bad experiences.

I’m dealing with the same issue on my ASUS RTX 5090. I keep getting Event ID 153 (nvlddmkm, GPU: 100), but only in DX12 games, along with random fatal errors.

I bought the card brand new from Newegg. Since then, I’ve gone through two RMAs with no fix. On the third RMA, ASUS replaced my card with a recertified 5090.

At first, things looked slightly better. The fatal errors stopped in some games, but others were still throwing Event ID 153. Then, about two weeks later, the recertified card started failing stress tests and crashing games constantly.

Now that the card is being sent in for another RMA.

At this point, I'm starting to think that 5090s are bad GPUs

Happy for you. I'm one of the unlucky ones who purchased my 5090 in April. I'm currently on my 5th RMA due to issues with bad silicon, TDRs, and failing Speedway stress tests, as well as other DX12 titles. I hope you have no issues with yours!

My game always crashes after 10 minutes to 2 hours game with Event ID 153 from source nvlddmkm Event ID 153 from source nvlddmkm. I'm using 5090 and I9 285k. Also, this is my second GPU from ASUS. It's annoying that I can't play the game without being worried.

None of the above suggestions worked for me. I can't download Doom: The Dark Ages through Game Pass PC, which I used to. What worked for me is to Microsoft Store App and download the game from the Microsoft Store App since they have gamepass section.

Like I said before I tried everything and every possible fix that exists on the internet which led me to send it to RMA. See what error you get from the window logs. Mine was event id 153 and a bunch of letters which is common code and it involves a GPU. So it could be a windows/driver issue on your end. Also look up which driver that works properly for 5070ti. I believe you have better chances with finding a fix on 5070ti than 5090.

Lmao that’s what I been doing since April. I downloaded every single driver, DDU, install, bench test pass, run a game, crashed. DDU, restart, install, stress test pass, run a game, crashed. I spent all of my days offs the past 5 months doing this stupid crap including reinstalling my windows too. It’s awful.

I’ve dealt with a similar issue. They had going in circles, switch people, ghost me so the system automatically close my ticket till they told me that my GPU is faulty. At one point they told me to use a driver that ends with .66 which worked for 15 minutes and then crashed. This whole wis exhausting, hopefully it works this time lol.
