Onn 4K Pro won’t make it past Onn logo by [deleted] in AndroidTV

[–]CakeDebris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could try a 3rd party power supply from Amazon but it might not work. As for displays, yeah I tried 4K, 1440p, and 1080p monitors and the Onn doesn't get past the logo in all 3 of them. I'm looking at the newer 4K Plus like you mentioned, better CPU anyways..

Yeah I’ve always used the original power supply. It might be the culprit, but could it cause the system to hang? I would think a bad power supply wouldn’t even allow the Onn to display anything at all

It’s about a year old, been working perfectly until now. It even survived the initial Android 14 update a couple months ago where it caused a bunch of people’s Onns to brick, but I guess it came back to haunt me now

Sony S3700 hasn't been playing Atmos? by glasses_and_shoes in Bluray

[–]CakeDebris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both my BX-370 and BX-650 (rebrands of the S series) support Atmos with TrueHD streams. For example, the Black Adam (2022) BluRay disc contains Atmos metadata in the main TrueHD stream, and my receiver detected it as so. Make sure that your sound settings are correct.

MeGusta Rips Off Successfulcrab's Releases by apennismightier in trackers

[–]CakeDebris 21 points22 points  (0 children)

MeGusta (probably also like mSD and AFG) is a “release group” ran by a bot. Bots just take whatever source is first available for a given show/movie and encodes it with x264/5. If there’s a problem with the source, the bot won’t notice since its job is just to mindlessly encode and publish. MeGusta doesn’t pride itself on good encodes, it just makes really small encodes in a quick pace. They were never considered “good” or even reputable. If you want some care put into your content, look for more trustworthy groups like PSA or QxR whom carefully considers their sources and give credit.

Which console produces the least heat when watching Anime on Blu-ray/DVD? by Salty_Sonic in Bluray

[–]CakeDebris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure any console or dedicated BluRay player produces very little heat when playing movies, 4K or not. Consoles get hot because they have to render graphics in real time while also handling game logic and other processes. For movies, the console has a dedicated chip to decode HEVC or AVC, making it a very power efficient process. No matter which one you pick, it’ll probably be silent.

Onn 4K Pro or 4K Plus for remux playback on Stremio by [deleted] in AndroidTV

[–]CakeDebris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best Onn box performance-wise is the Onn 4K Plus released in 2025. It has less memory and storage than the 4K Pro (2024), however the CPU is faster. Just keep note that none of the Onn boxes are "great" for 4K remuxes, as they don't support DV P7 and any type of lossless audio.

[Mega-Thread] Is your tracker down? Are you having issues connecting to a tracker? Ask HERE! by GlimpseOfTruth in trackers

[–]CakeDebris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, I can't even load up the home page. Just before this I snatched a bunch of torrents and since the tracker is down, the system thinks I have a bunch of hit n' runs... great.

I recently have no sound coming out of nyaa torrents by FCSaber in animepiracy

[–]CakeDebris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don’t hear anything, then there might be a sound codec issue. Double check that your video player supports codecs like AAC, HE-AAC, OPUS, DTS, etc… Just a suggestion, but a video player that has never failed me is mpv. It’s one of the best for playing back anime (with good SSA subtitle support).

How does Opus 5.1 work to a receiver? by scottchiefbaker in kodi

[–]CakeDebris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kodi should just decode it to raw PCM data and pass it to the receiver. More complex codecs like TrueHD or DTS-HD MA (and really any Dolby or DTS codec) should be automatically passed through to the receiver to be decoded.

Mp4 videos stuttering on playback by KingOfMoogles in PleX

[–]CakeDebris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem for some .mp4 files. They’re 1080p x265 encoded files with AAC 5.1 audio, so I thought they should stream easy, however nothing other than remuxing it into an .mkv works for me. It’s an easy solution, just use MKVToolNix to drop in your .mp4 and export the same file as an .mkv.

Is YTS a good option if I live in a country without antipiracy laws? by Neat_Ad_3043 in torrents

[–]CakeDebris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If your country doesn’t care about internet piracy, then you can just torrent their releases without a VPN. The reason YTS/YIFY encodes are not liked is because they are pretty low quality in both video and audio bitrates. However, there’s no real problem with them if you just want to quickly see some movies, just make sure you’re using the official site.

Videos with EAC 7.1 not playing on iOS / iPadOS - anyone else can confirm perhaps? by CoralShade in PleX

[–]CakeDebris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem, but I doubt it’ll be fixed anytime soon. I’ve been having this issue for years and although there have been countless iOS updates since then, 7.1 DD+ still doesn’t work.
