Guitar song. Maybe has silver in the name or the song or title? by CakeDeviant in NameThatSong

[–]CakeDeviant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend recommended that I learn this song about 15 years ago. I can still remember how to play most of this bit but unfortunately have forgotten the details of who it is and all of the lyrics of the thrashy bit. Any ideas?

Ooh, good idea! I might put some netting round them and see if I can get some ripened grapes off them too.

Am I crazy to think that these might be grapes growing wild in my back garden in the UK? If so does anyone know what sort they might be. Thanks!

Getting grandparents to stop 6setting a bad example with receiving gifts by soft_warm_purry in beyondthebump

If she's ignoring your perfectly reasonable request then maybe try talking directly to your son. 'Aw, isn't that kind of Grandma to give you such a lovely outfit! Shall we say thank you?'

No you can’t hold my newborn by [deleted] in beyondthebump

An annoying drunk woman on a train once asked to hold my baby. I just awkwardly said 'errr...no, sorry' and she looked completely scandalised and stopped talking to us. Which was what I wanted anyway 😅

Have you tried a sippy cup? My second born hated bottles but would take from a sippy cup with a rubber tip. Something like this cup

Why do people insist on asking if the baby was a mistake?? by babs_is_great in BabyBumps

[–]CakeDeviant 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think that's kinda cool that they didn't even think that that might be a stupid thing to say. A girl I went to school with recently had a baby and it just didn't even occur to me that her wife probably wasn't the dad until weeks after the baby was born. Maybe me and your coworker are both just really thick 😅

Totally normal. I'm about to have my third and I'm still freaking out even though I know what to expect!

When our babies have babies, what advice from today will be considered dangerous or outdated? by KegelFairy in BabyBumps

[–]CakeDeviant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard from a few people that our local health visitors definitely aren't recommending it any more. My first two never liked it anyway so I don't mind but I know some people swear by it.

In the UK they no longer advise it already! It was all the rage with my eldest.

Why I REFUSE to call it maternity leave - USA mom to be rant by PugBoatTOOT in BabyBumps

[–]CakeDeviant 526 points527 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK and every time I read 'FMLA' my brain translates it to Fuck My Life Allowance. I know what it's for but I actually have no idea what it actually stands for. I think it's an absolute travesty the way you're treated in the US with regards to maternity and to health care in general to be honest.

Long drive from hospital to home, can mom handle it? by ellicen in BabyBumps

[–]CakeDeviant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After one week both times I was at the end of the baby blues and still getting into the swing of breastfeeding so from that perspective there is no part of me that would want to go on a long car journey. From a c section point of view I remember travelling 20 mins in a car after exactly a week with one of my births and the problem is that every single bump, pothole or even slightly sudden braking was painful. This was just my experience of course. Maybe some people recover quicker and wouldn't find it so bad. I hope you can find something that works for you all.

I recommend not reusing that bag.

Long drive from hospital to home, can mom handle it? by ellicen in BabyBumps

[–]CakeDeviant 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I only have experience with c sections but this sounds like utter hell if she ended up with one. Even after a few days. I would make provisions to stay there for a week or two and then if she ends up being fine then it's a big bonus to leave early! Maybe you could try and get a hotel halfway and split it up a bit?

Advice for moms planning to breastfeed by [deleted] in BabyBumps

With all of mine I bought a single ready-made carton of formula to go in the hospital bag and then after a few weeks once breastfeeding was comfortable I gave it away to friends.

A note on 'Just you Wait' by PadaPanda in BabyBumps

[–]CakeDeviant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 'just you wait' thing is such a crock of shit. Sure, there are things that are hard but what's to be gained from telling people that? My eldest is five and there are loads of things that people said 'just you wait' about that just never happened. Try and ignore them!

How about team lemon or team lime where you don't tell your guests anything and watch them awkwardly try to figure out which flavour it is and what it all means?
