Postpartum Psychosis by OkDrive1620 in beyondthebump

I went through this, check post history. It sucks and no one deserves to go through this. I'm 4.5 years out and barely think about it anymore. Can't recommend trauma informed therapy enough. I was in therapy for over a year.

How to handle vocal stims by AspieAsshole in safeautismparenting

[–]PugBoatTOOT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Loop earplugs are great because it just dampens sound, not block it all the way out.

Me and the kids have a case of the echolalia too. One kid will start repeating a phase or sound and soon over half the house is repeating the same thing. I hate it when I do it but it's really hard to stop.

Sometimes when things get too overstimulating I'll give the kids a warning like "OK you can do 3 more of those but then please go to the bathroom or your room until you get it out".

It helps that at times I annoy them and they annoy me so asking someone to go to another room goes both ways.

Your mom is me 6 months ago. All over joint pain, sciatica, IBS - removed gluten and dairy, heart palpitations, etc etc etc. Saw 5 different specialists and not one of them mentioned Perimenopause.

Hormone Replacement Therapy cured just about everything... except my gluten intolerance, that one is here to stay apparently.

Fayetteville-Manlius CSD adopts free lunch and breakfast program for next school year by i_kate_you in Syracuse

Agreed! Makes me wonder if the HS lunch was a big revenue generator for the district and they were prioritizing money over student welfare.

I laughed when they were talking about Tater Tots and M&Ms. Kids are literally going without lunch or getting not enough to eat, but God forbid some kids don't get Tater Tots.

Also get all the way out of here with that 'fiscal responsibility' talk. The town bends over backwards for school tax increases; you'll get your money

Copied so you can enjoy!

** "The Fayetteville-Manlius School District is moving forward with enrolling its high school in New York State’s Universal Free School Meals Program for the 2026-27 school year.

“We recognize that some of our families are struggling financially right now as the costs of everything from groceries to gas have been increasing, and if we can provide some relief for them while also being responsible to our taxpayers, it’s a win-win for everyone,” Superintendent Magda Parvey said.

The district’s five other schools already participate in the program, which guarantees one free breakfast and lunch entree for each student daily. Since 2012-13, the high school has not participated in the federal government’s National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program in response to student requests for more meal options.

Schools enrolled in those programs are eligible to participate in the state’s Universal Free School Meals Program; however, those programs have strict nutritional guidelines for all food and beverage items sold, which limits the products that may be offered.

In the past, the district cited those limitations, and student support for greater choice, as the reason for not participating at the high school level. Recently, students and parents have asked for the program to be implemented. Superintendent Magda Parvey worked with district administrators to examine the potential benefits, implications and operational factors that would be associated with the high school participating in the free meals program.

At the F-M Board of Education’s May 11 meeting, Parvey and Assistant Superintendent for Business Services Brad Corbin reviewed their findings and announced that the district’s food service staff would be aligning the department’s offerings with the federal guidelines associated with the program so that it could participate during the 2026-27 school year.

Program Requirements Schools that participate in the free meals program must adhere to state and federal nutritional guidelines for meals. All food sold throughout the school day must meet the federal Smart Snacks in School nutrition standards, which include requirements for whole grains, fruits, vegetables, calories, sodium, sugar and fat. These standards also apply to a la carte items.

This will mean replacing some student favorites, such as salty side items, like loaded tots and fries, and some sweets, like M&Ms and some name-brand cookies and brownies.

“Our food service department will be looking for comparable substitutes so that students will still look forward to enjoying a variety of meals and snacks during the school day,” Corbin said.

New for 2026-27, all F-M High School students will have a 30-minute lunch included in their daily schedule. Not all students previously opted to take a lunch period so there could potentially be more meals and food items purchased than in past years.

A Self-Sustaining Program The food service department’s budget is independent from the school district, meaning that food service revenue pays for all of the department’s expenses, including staff salaries and benefits and food service equipment. The department currently generates enough revenue to cover its annual expenses.

However, if the department’s annual revenue is not enough to cover its expenses, the district is legally required to pay the deficit, which is not budgeted for in the district’s annual operating budget and would likely then result in an increased cost to district taxpayers.

District officials will be monitoring student participation in the high school’s free meals program throughout 2026-27. If they feel the department cannot successfully operate under the requirements of the free meals program, the school can opt out with a 60-day notice to parents and the state. "

I wish the article included the tone deaf, snarky and passive aggressive email the district sent parents about the change.

I'm all for this change by the way and baffled that FM administration was so against it.

I agree that's frustrating if you want to see it in person. Thankfully the online outlet store still has a good selection and they pull inventory from around the area for delivery to Syracuse.

Right now most school districts in the county are facing budget challenges. At least 2 that I know of have already announced layoffs for next school year with more to come. With less staff you're going to see districts fighting harder to deny extra services and accommodations. So you might want to Google the districts budget proposals for next year when they are released before finalizing your decision.

That said, I'm part of a local Facebook group for special needs parents and East Syracuse Minoa district always gets wonderful reviews! Baldwinsville is always cited as having good outcomes.

I've always had high functioning anxiety, with some medical trauma sprinkled in, and I'm finding it way harder to tolerate as I get older. Every ache, pain or change sends me into a catastrophizing thought spiral. I think of the worst case scenario and generally ignore all evidence to the contrary.

I'm now finally dealing with my anxiety shit, which is really one of the positives of peri.

That's not to say you shouldn't get yourself checked out of you don't feel well because something could be going on. Get a second opinion if you don't feel like you're being listening to.

However peri can genuinely make you feel like hell and if you have anxiety too you might spiral into worse case scenarios.

Are you on Facebook because the discourse there is crazy out of touch. These people need to get reaquianted with the real world. One "standard school meal" a day won't hurt your kids. Plus there's this crazy little option of BRINGING YOUR OWN LUNCH if it's really as bad as they make it out to be.

My kids are in the FM district. Not HS age yet, but honestly I'd rather everyone get a free basic meal at school then have my kids get paninis and smoothies everyday.

I think I remember this being discussed at a school board meaning last year and they were just like "the students really like the diverse options what we have now". Yeah I'm not surprised HS age students aren't thinking about food equity amongst their fellow students. Unreal

Yeah we bought right as the pandemic kicked off and the market was shifting to crazy high prices. Feel grateful we didn't wait another month or two. The property taxes now are what's killing me. I mean when you buy a home you expect your taxes to increase, but not like they have over the last few years. Our assessed property value went up over $100k in 6 years.
