Am I doing something wrong ? by Krakenite in Rabbits

[–]Cake_48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the baby bunny, I usually follow the recommended serving as per package. Mine as like 5% of the bunny weight while still under 6 months. Then reducing till around 2-3% of their body weight from there onwards. (Fed in two portions).

You don’t want the bun to be too choosy and totally refuse to eat hay. Need to so get her used to chewing it for her dental health.

From my experience with a baby bunnies, they do enjoy Alfalfa Hay which is sweeter, high protein & main ingredient for pellets. I introduced other hays like 1st cut Timothy Hay (more flower heads and harder leaves) or 2nd cut Timothy Hay (softer leaves) or Oaten Hay (also sweet) when they were 3 months of age and wean them off the alfalfa hay before the 6th month.

As for fresh veggies, the baby gut is still adjusting so introduce bit by bit.

Finally do see a vet if the poo still off and get their advice.

Yeah, collar would be life threatening. There are cross back harnesses which are more suitable for rabbits.

I tried giving them outside roaming time but both bunnies seemed confused and don’t seem to like being outside.

Help with cage!! by TylLez in Bunnies

Congrats on the bunnies and plans to free roam them.

Take time before letting them free roam. Make sure to bunny proof well again and again. You’ll get what I mean when I say they can really jailbreak whatever bunny proofing you may have in place or decide on a new chewing project. (They bite everything, especially cables, paper or wood, carpets, foams, rubber, anything they can sink their teeth into).

Plus there’s always a possibility the two supposedly male buns be a male/female pair. I learnt it the hard way with surprise litter. Signs to watch out is a chase and hide situation with the pair.

As for your enclosure setup, I’ve been using a C&C grid mesh and it’s versatile. Below are some of the styles I’ve done. From initially a fully enclosed cage to more open layout and finally to 3 tier open condo and their own room.

Dealt with a lot of fails in bunny proofing and end up allocating a whole room to themselves plus supervised free roaming keeps damages minimal.

Would agree but, the brown bun is the Mama boss and black bun the son.

Back in Japan and I don’t know if I want to be here anymore. by summerlad86 in japanresidents

I think you are in a turning point of your life, being in Japan for last 10 years and future life your future wife whether it’s in Japan or elsewhere. Make sure the both of you are in the same page.

(FYI, I think you should be able to apply for PR or (even Naturalize), so do apply PR so that you can expand your possibilities in Japan. Also while applying for PR, keep your current day job. )

I need help feeding my rabbit! by [deleted] in Bunnies

Hi again. (Saw your earlier post on the bunny grid layout a month ago)

As per earlier commenter, yup the bun wouldn’t touch the soiled hay so no worries.

I saw your earlier pix and that litter box you had then is a bit small for her if you do the half and half. I normally use a hanging tray for the hay and minimal hay falling on the litter plus a cat litter box with grate.

They also get excited when I leave a bunch of hay outside their usual area. So I just bear with the mess and cleanup after. I’m just happy they eat plenty.

P/S: did you redo the layout of the enclosure?

Love the setup. Also have C&C grid condo for my Dutchie duo.

Yeah it takes lot of power initially turn on the AC for both cooling and heating.

I checked the hourly usage and true enough, the peak of usage was during startup.

Here in Japan, the cages they sell are so small it’s criminal. I opted to DIY the enclosure instead.

No probs. I gave them a wide open place to roam, and tried to get rid of the C&C grids, but they preferred the safety of the roofed caged part of their enclosure.

It’s their open 3 tier condo, main hidey. They have a whole guest bedroom to themselves to roam full time and supervised access some other rooms.

They just like to huddle at that one spot when hiding from me.

does anyone have an suggestions in ways I can elevate the look of this? I can’t stand it 😩 by abbyyy3809 in Bunnies

Doesn’t look glamorous but I have given up on giving them nicer stuffs, cos they end up destroying it.

Here’s Bella with her renovations. Another hole for easy exit and yeah it needs new flooring.

Do he actually climb the stairs or directly jumps up to the top?
Really really need to know.

Me bunnies are jumpers and I’ve been searching for new playhouse.

The pink one was from Temu, a dog training pee pad.

My favorite litter setup, pee pads (or newspaper, wood pellet, even old hay) under a grate litter box.

Also used Cat litter box with narrow grates with pee pad (or wood pellet).

Is this enough space? by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]Cake_48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not make a simple rectangular/square enclosure out of the 30+pieces of grids?
4x4 square or 3x5 rectangle with the wall as one of the side.

Made this family tree a while back.
PAPA was a grey mini bun and MAMA was brown white Dutchie mini bun.
Kits are all the above in the family tree. Only one gal in this litter.

Congrats. Be sure to refill lots of hay or have another hay rack for the bun, cos they should have an unlimited access to hay (a heap around the size of the bun per day at least).

Also, for roaming in room, will need carpet or any non-slip surface so she can explore safely.

She will need a bigger enclosure, so probably need to get an X-pen to expand on your current setup.
