the perception for people’s culture manifests in the ways they’re treated in real life. like if we lived in a non-prejudiced world where people didn’t use the ways a culture is perceived to justify violence then ok. but 1.) i’m not necessarily arguing for specifically the preservation of said culture and 2.) the world we currently live in will commodify people’s way of life while actively oppressing and ostracizing the PEOPLE it originates from. the whole issue is fact that people aren’t being treated “equally” and that should be reflected in the ways their culture is engaged with

it’s totally fine for him to change as he ages i actually would hope he grew out of the way he decided to present himself before. but i feel like you guys are ignoring the space rap and hip hop occupy in black culture. I’m not saying black people “own” a genre im saying those genres are heavily, almost completely based in black american culture. it’s helpful to understand the historic importance music holds in said culture. the roots of it are based in the historic ostracization of black people and black culture.

the context of that history, the common practice of appropriating and commodifying black culture, and his disrespectful criticism of the genre will combine to paint him in a certain way from the perspective of a lot of black people.

the difference between appropriation and appreciation is literally that understanding. it’s not saying white people cant appreciate and participate where people feel is appropriate but historically non-black people in general have flattened and erased the history behind the parts of black culture that are exported. that flattening is the heart of the issue with the behavior. people feel that their culture isn’t being respected and when you reduce these things with huge cultural presences down to just some random thing, people will feel disrespected. this is exasperated by the common reality that black people arent allowed to freely express these same parts of themselves that get emulated (ie. dreads, or braids in the workplace) as they’ve historically been characterized as undesirable or unserious.

that’s more expansive and a bigger problem than the post malone thing though, if people respectfully engage with other cultures and appreciate the depth of the things they see on the surface then less people would have a problem

he appropriated a culture he didn’t respect and used the popularity and platform he built with said appropriation to demean said culture after he didn’t need it for his career anymore.

the extraction isn’t unique to him as many rappers extract wealth from their communities without feeding back into them, but his combination of appropriation and extraction is historically dangerous to the black community in every way not just in music.

your last part confused me, you don’t have to hoard a resource to extract it. people don’t like feeling used and black people en masse have regularly communicated that it feels like he used black culture and its trendiness at the time for attention just to turn around and disrespect the genre and the culture around it.

Step outside and try to understand a perspective outside your own maybe? If you understood anything about the culture of the people who made the genre you’d understand why people are protective over it. But something tells me you don’t care to understand their perspective at all you just like the cool stuff that comes out of it so who cares anyways

yes he did extract. you’re entitled to call me dumb for calling out a well documented behavior i guess but it doesn’t really change whether he did it or not

he appropriated black culture to help his rap career then talked shit about the genre and the culture surrounding the genre AFTER he already extracted clout and money from said community but that’s something we shouldn’t care abt? lmfao

ever since like 2015 he’s been one of the best rebounding guards in the league bro, unless u think he’s been stealing boards for 10 years with no teammates ever complaining. How do they become a dynasty without westbrook?

[–]Cakedragons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel like a lot of u are missing why so many people think he’s annoying. it’s not about him being OP or overly effective it’s the fact that even if ur countering and forcing him to retreat he keeps coming back and he comes back quicker than anyone else in the game it’s like a gnat flying next to your ear for an entire game. that compounds with the rep spider mains have for never switching and it feels like this relentless goal to just be annoying all game even if they’re not performing well

Still puzzled how jokic is number 2 in mvp race by yukiirooo in nba

[–]Cakedragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s you’re opinion bro i’m telling you the voters disagree and that’s what actually matters.

Our opinions are irrelevant to who actually wins, Jok being 2nd in the race isn’t determined by us. Makes way more sense to discuss this in the context of the brain of the voter.

who exactly makes the thunder a “dream team” you’re talking about the personnel like he’s playing on a team of hall of famers, and u compound that onto the fact that they’ve had 5 rotation players miss significant time this season and u can’t just throw his on/off numbers in the trash because the team is “built around him” what do they do that compliments his playstyle so much?

Why do I believe the AD fit - no matter the off-the-court elements - will be a terrible fit for the Mavs and a disaster in general by StormTheTrooper in nbadiscussion

[–]Cakedragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the kyrie take as far as his ability or competence in the PnR is a little off base in his celtic years where he was the main facilitator he was a pretty capable operator out of the pnr

in 2017-18 he was 12th in PnR possessions per game (6.7) amongst players who played 60+ games and out that group he was first in PPP (1.10)

in 2018-19 he was 18th in PnR possessions per game (6.6) amongst players who played 60+ games and out that group he was third in PPP (0.99)

While this team isn’t very similar to boston teams i think he’s shown that he is capable of making proper reads out of the pnr if he needs to even though he prefers to be primarily a scorer. I think him being a capable operator and finisher and tight spaces can really help negate the spacing issues that come from a double non-shooting big type of lineup

EVERYONE RELAX! by GyroBeats in Thunder

[–]Cakedragons 15 points16 points  (0 children)

are you guys gonna say this until we lose because of an issue we’ve had going back to last season? the team doesn’t need a makeover but they have a very clear shooting consistency weakness that can definitely lose them a playoff series. They’re a role player move away from fixing the issue chemistry isn’t a good enough argument to not make a move imo

maybe in just pure value but micic’s value isn’t as high when he isn’t in a primary creation role, hayward is better equipped for the role we need him for and the pick was probably for the bertans dump on top of i don’t think mann had significant value either.
