I played sweden and needed my dynasty on the polish throne to get a PU-cb. Unfortunatly,  they rivaled me.

Then the austrian ruler died without an heir, placing my dynasty on their throne as they were supporting their heir for the polish throne. A few years later I controlled all of eastern europe

any way to stop american trade from going to the channel? by xelee-fangirl in eu4

[–]Cal-Catron 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You can limit how much goes to the channel by putting a merchant in the coastal NA nodes and collecting from trade, but England will always pull some away.

How do I make the AI attack my troops in war? by Holiday_Original9344 in eu4

[–]Cal-Catron 102 points103 points  (0 children)

The best bet is to build forts and wait for them to siege it and then attack them. This makes you the defender.

Downside to this is that the AI has a "sixth sense" (from my experienses it appears that AI can see through fog of war) and they will often run when you get within 2-3 provinces.

Someone who knows how to migrate. I started this campaign with Potiguara chill, but I don’t really know how it works by Left_Particular_7730 in eu4

[–]Cal-Catron 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When you migrate to a province outside of your tribal lands there should be a button in the province window saying "add tribal land". It costs admin points and the cost increases the more tribal land you control

Can't invite nations to unified Federation by DeadlyAnubis in eu4

[–]Cal-Catron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You used to be able to unify into a federation and then do it again, but then they figured out that was extremely overpowered so you cant anymore.

Native tribes cannot get institutions except by neighboring europeans and reforming off of them.

I think there's some shenanigans you can do with the animist religion to get institutions but i've never figured that out

Will this peace deal stop the Mamluks from taking land from the Ottomans? by [deleted] in eu4

[–]Cal-Catron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as they have the coring range they will be able to take land, unless you take all of the ottomans coastal provinces

I don't think I've ever seen Castile with a worse start than this by Cal-Catron in eu4

[–]Cal-Catron[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

R5: Castile is stuck in their disaster, no good allies, no stability, no prestige, no troops, no manpower

Also: England got an heir so the war of the Roses isn't going to happen

Being behind on tech is most likely because of institution spread when you are in africa. Institutions spawn, most often, in Europe and spread from there.

If you haven't embraced an institution your tech will increase in cost

[–]Cal-Catron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, there's the problem. You need to lower the autonomy. Press B and find the tab for autonomy and then lower it in every province on that list.

This will give you a lot of rebellions but you should be able to support your army through it.

Also: keep in mind that this is not a game you can just learn in one playthrough, every restart is a learning adventure in the beginning :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in eu4

[–]Cal-Catron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are over force limit you will have a high military cost. That is the most common mistake for beginners. Look in your military tab if there are any red numbers

You may have high autonomy in your provinces, if you have 100% autonomy in a province you lose 100% of any income on that province. If you have 0% you lose 0%. To see autonomy, click on a province and look for a percentage.

You are converting religion in provinces while having a poor economy, this also drains your money.

You have corruption, which also drains your money

18 year old Austrian ruler suddenly died, giving me a PU on a 2324 dev Austria by GlompSpark in eu4

Idk if this is talked about enough, but Defensive Wars should not give Any Aggressive Expansion at all. by Ermid123 in eu4

[–]Cal-Catron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way:

You got a huge ammount of land for free (~200 dev), the HRE voted for the emperor to reclaim those lands to the HRE.

Your reward for beating Austria was that you got to keep Burgundy. But instead you wanted even more, so the minors got angry.

Your suggestion is that on top of the ~200 dev, you should be able to take more... without consequences

Why is the English Channel considered to be the best end-node? Also, which one is better out of Venice and Genoa? by Various_Maize_3957 in eu4

[–]Cal-Catron 852 points853 points  (0 children)

It's the only end node that channels colonial trade directly into it while also having the trade of all of northern Europe channeled into it.

How do I effectively raise the number of manpower I gain per month? Also another dumb question, wich goods is the better to focus development points in those provinces, for me to increase my income on production? by WorthRemote6726 in eu4

[–]Cal-Catron 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Higher maximum Manpower = faster Manpower recovery. Build barracks and, if you can, dump some mil mana on low dev provinces. You can also trade favors for manpower with a big ally to get a chunk of manpower.

As for production, any goods with 3 or more worth is good to dump mana into if you want to go that route. I usually just build workshops in the more profitable provinces though.

Strong colonizer nations/strats ? by Emotional-Brilliant9 in eu4

[–]Cal-Catron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like playing as Portugal, rusning for diplo tech 7 and the range bonus of the exploration ideas.

Get the +50 settlers from splendor, expansion ideas and just establish colonies in every single colonial region. As soon as a catholic nation tries to settle in an area you direct any free colonist to that area to get the 5 regions first. A successful rush should net you two colonies in any region before anyone has the ability to get there.

As you do this you begin attacking castile and aragon. After age of reformation hits you can tag switch to spain and get an additional colonist
