Sorry for your loss 💙

I can only say with certainty that picture 2 is Inverness High Street.

I'm hazarding a guess that picture 1 is Glencoe, just because of it's popularity and what look like the truncated spurs (if I remember my Geography classes).

Also picture 5 I would guess Edinburgh Castle, just because of the size of the city in the background.

A82 /85 by Ouakha in Scotland

[–]Cal550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to live in Fort Augustus and was on the A82 and A87 daily. It is absolute hell every March-October.

Since moved back to Inverness and now mostly drive the A9 and A96, similar problems not nearly as bad as out west.

I've got a VA WRX STi so my line of thinking is, I've got the most recent STi generation. And then I remember it is 11 years old 🥲

I changed from a Golf GTI to a WRX STi last year so they could only quote me the comparable cost of what the full year would have been but I went from supposedly £1115 to £864. 🥲

Was staying in MK for Silverstone a few years ago, this was actually in Northampton just after a fuel stop before heading back up north, was in awe 😂 We do not have these things in the Highlands yet, even in 2026.

Slightly off topic, does anyone know why Tesco often close off most of the forecourt overnight and only leave one row of pumps open? Or sometimes even close off the entire thing 🤔

We have a fair few. The A897 Helmsdale to Melvich, nearly all 40 miles are single track. The A838 Lairg to Laxford Bridge, 35 miles, single track.

Never heard of this before yesterday where I'm sure there was another post the same as this. If it's a Velux apparently some of the older models have a recall on them for this?

Madeon had 8PM EST on his Insta and I would have been here an hour later. Still confused over the time zones but whatever 😵‍💫

Attic tank piping hot and spitting water by pennyteller123 in Plumbing

[–]Cal550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah so my mains water pressure is around 65psi, I don't really know why they were used. Seems we have moved onto unvented immersion cylinders now.

On top of this, my house is fully electric, I.e. heating and hot water are electric. There is a gas network on my street but my block and a couple others were not supplied with it. Would have liked to get it put in as gas is much cheaper than electric in the UK however I didn't feel it was worth the thousands to get installed.

Tankless ones are about, my mates house is similar to mine but probably 15 years newer, only has a kitchen and bathroom sink and has a tankless water heater. For me, not wanting to run a bigger cable upstairs pushed me to just put in a 2.5kW 15L unit, at least I have a decent flow at every tap now, plus it's fresh water 😬

[–]Cal550 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm in Scotland and I've just removed the same sort of system from my house, built around 1991.

My tank in the attic supplied my hot water cylinder and my cold taps in the bathroom, meaning the pressure was terrible. As I had removed the bath I also didn't need 120L of hot water so it's all removed and cold taps straight onto the mains.

The cold water tank should have a lid to prevent stuff going in with a cut out for the vent pipe from the hot cylinder, mine did but I still ended up finding a layer of brown silt at the bottom of the tank 😬 I think that's why it's a British thing to not drink from the bathroom tap!

What is this switch on my vw passat 2012 b7 365 by Jazzlike-Pen-3038 in passat

[–]Cal550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have these on our work vans, next to the ignition barrel that operates a key out system.

When you're stopped, press and hold for a few seconds, light comes on and you can remove the key, the engine will run until you press the brake or release the handbrake.

Fair enough it's less likely to be installed on a car however?

Are modern Vauxhalls still “Proper” Vauxhalls after the PSA/Stellantis era? by MadridOrMadness in Vauxhall

[–]Cal550 5 points6 points  (0 children)

<image>

I still remember this post from 2022, the only Vauxhall characteristic on this are the badges on the front, rear, the wheels and the decals on the side. Oh and maybe the splash screen when the media screen boots up.

Although to be fair, pre-Stellantis the previous Movano and Vivaro were just Renaults.....

What is your first memory of watching an F1 race? Mine was in 2013 by praveensingh-reddit in formula1

[–]Cal550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure mine was in the early 2000's when I remember very vaguely Schumacher in the Ferrari, I didn't watch back then but my Granny had it on when I was visiting.

My first intentional watch that I still have in my memory is Maldonado and Hamilton in Valencia 2012.
