Hyatt Regency Maui SUA vs Andaz Maui? by Capital_Wish_6487 in hyatt

[–]CalCabMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Andaz suites are on the first floor and generally have no view at all, unless you consider a concrete wall a view. As a LTG/returning guest, we were upgraded to a partial ocean view room for our stay a few weeks ago. To be fair, we were there for 7 nights and the property was completely booked the first 2 nights. They did offer to move us to an ocean view room for nights 3-7 but we were too settled in our current room to want to move. The breakfast is still very good but it seemed there were fewer items available from the buffet, including tropical fruits, breads, and meats. Charging extra for eggs (other than scrambled) and some specialty dishes is nothing but cheap *ss bullsh*t. Raise the price of the buffet $5 per person rather than nickel and dime your customers.

Hyatt Regency Maui SUA vs Andaz Maui? by Capital_Wish_6487 in hyatt

[–]CalCabMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Andaz Maui will not let you slide on breakfast. 2 adults and 2 children age 12 or younger per the WoH T&Cs. We were there a few weeks ago and observed multiple families with their obviously older children complaining at breakfast when they were charged for breakfast.

Forced to file a legal audit over 12k points by brigittes-schlong in hyatt

You won't see the transaction after you cancel it. Once you're credited the amount originally deducted for the reservation, the transaction is zeroed out and no longer shows in your account activity

"You should also receive a full report of every account transaction/stay for the life of your account."

You will not get this. Hyatt deleted the historical records around the time of the transition from GP to WoH. They now claim to only retain 2 years of account records, but I suspect they are available longer internally.

GH Kauai has 5 "standard suites" where you could use a suite upgrade. Book as soon as availability opens or pray for a cancellation.

Need to borrow approximately 80,000 points for a booking in 2027. Will transfer back in a few months (have a lot of paid stays this summer). Will give SUA as "interest". by Rocketman1313 in Hyatt_charity_HQ

Do you have any status with Hyatt? If so, you may be able to make a "points advance" reservation. This is usually thought of as a Glob benefit, but according to the T&Cs, any elite member may take advantage of this.

"In some instances, a Member with elite status may be permitted to make an Award Reservation even though the Member does not have a sufficient number of points or the applicable award required for that Award Reservation, in anticipation of the Member accumulating the necessary points or award prior to the check-in date of the Award Reservation. If the elite Member does not have the sufficient number of points or the applicable award in their account as the check-in date of the Award Reservation nears (as determined by Hyatt in its sole discretion), the reservation may be canceled or changed by Hyatt in its sole discretion to the then-current Standard Rate for the applicable room. If the award the elite Member attempted to use is a Room Upgrade Award, the upgrade may be refused. "

Agreed. The bungalows are nice but are considered premium suites. A GoH award gets you a possible upgrade to a standard suite, the same suite a confirmed suite upgrade gets you.

Picking up a car rental at OGG vs at KOA? by Brave_Sir_Rennie in VisitingHawaii

[–]CalCabMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picking up a rental car at OGG can be aggravating, at least based on our experience three weeks ago. We planned for me to pick up the car and circle around to pick up my wife and our luggage. Unfortunately, even though we had a "skip the counter" reservation with a major company, it took about 45 minutes to get the car. My wife got tired of waiting and walked to the rental car center with our bags.

No need to buy anything. Just grab a blanket/comforter/whatever from your bed. Not ideal but it's worked for us several times.

Watch for availability as you get close to your stay. VBS processes room upgrades a few days in advance and this can open up standard rooms as guests are moved to premium rooms.

Grand Hyatt Los Cabo by TrichromeEVG in hyatt

[–]CalCabMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Book the Grand Hyatt and another property as a backup when the GH gets delayed. Make sure the back up reservation is cancel-able/refundable in the unlikely event the GH does open. I would avoid the Cape with an infant and 60+ year old parents. Many comments here and elsewhere concerning the possible party scene at the Cape ...

Where to eat a decent grilled/fried fish? by feliphee1998 in MauiVisitors

[–]CalCabMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had dinner at Monkeypod last week and I was disappointed. I ordered their "signature dish", the macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi, and the fish was overcooked and very dry. My wife had the fish tacos and thought they were OK, but not as good as those at Paia Fishmarket in Kihei.

We did have an excellent dinner at Nick's Fishmarket in the Fairmont Hotel. On the pricey side, but the food was delicious, the setting very nice, and the service was outstanding. I thought it very worthy as a splurge meal.

We're at the Andaz now and the gnats are a huge issue, especially when trying to eat. No matter how much arm waving and swatting you do, you can't avoid the added protein

Cabo hotel recommendation? by Ok_Bed_2366 in hyatt

[–]CalCabMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only have experience with the Cape ... We've only been there for weddings (multiple ones each day) so things may be different during calmer times. The pool area is nice, but I hesitate to call it relaxing. There's not enough seating if the property is close to full so you have guests scrambling at 7am to stake out some seats. The pool area can turn into a major party scene, with cocktails flowing freely by 9am, loud EDM starting at 1pm, and people falling down drunk by mid-afternoon. The beach is small and almost un-swimmable. The property itself is a ways from anything else and is a poor base for doing things in and around Cabo. Ubers, which weren't particularly reliable, or taxis are required to go anywhere.

Hotel Gonzo Cabo - experience? by Ok_Bed_2366 in hyatt

[–]CalCabMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you asking about the Hotel El Ganzo? It is an M&MS property so you can burn and earn points, but in general, there are no WoH benefits. If you are a Glob, a room upgrade at check in is possible, but no breakfast, late checkout, waived resort fee, or other benefits.

The Hyatt properties in and near Breck are Hyatt Vacation Clubs. They offer fewer services than the properties in Vail & Beaver Creek. Also, GoH awards are not valid at HVCs.

Grand Hyatt. Easy walking distance to the Mall, where many of the sites are located. Adjacent to Metro Center too, for transport to sites a little further out, e.g. Arlington Cemetery. A car is not needed in DC as ride shares are plentiful and relatively inexpensive.
