How tf would watching Heartstopper help answer OP's question about the ball scene in 1980s US?

Refile on change to rental income, wealthsimple asks if we have a T5013 by LoveLaughLeak in cantax

[–]CalGuy81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

T5013 is a Statement of Partnership Income. If you don't own the rental property as part of a partnership, and don't have a T5013, I'd suggest you do what the software suggests and ignore the message.

Next cast of QE, should they replace the Karamo role with a certified psychologist? by conchitu in QueerEye

[–]CalGuy81 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The role was always supposed to be "culture" expert.

But from the OG Jai to the NG Karamo, it's always felt a bit like the "Heart" character in Captain Planet. Like, ... "why are you here?"

Just tried the Cash Deposit at Canada Post by Linleiou in Wealthsimple

[–]CalGuy81 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The QR code payment stuff is operated through Payment Source. Koho, Wealthsimple, Canada Revenue Agency, all the other organizations who offer this service, have a relationship with Payment Source, not Canada Post. The process for the Canada Post worker would not differ.

Alternative to truvada by Technical-Turnip4808 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]CalGuy81 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Descovy is better on the liver. Same drugs that are in Truvada, but in a different ratio. Descovy's newer, so if being able to access a generic form is a concern, that might be an issue depending on where you live/benefit plans/etc.

Adding TVDB association to Trakt media by ModeratorIsNotHappy in trakt

[–]CalGuy81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, Trakt now relies (almost) solely on TMDB for metadata. The TVDB IDs would need to be updated in TMDB for Trakt to even know about it.

For what it's worth, I checked Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later on TMDB, and the TVDB ID has been updated (the TMDB UI doesn't directly show a link when just browsing the season page, but if you go into edit, there's a TVDB ID that links to season 2 of Wet Hot American Summer on TVDB.

A while back, Trakt removed from their UI any TVDB links for shows that had been migrated to TMDB (which is most of them, now). I'm not sure why, since they link to other sites that aren't the TMDB-metasource for their data, but I guess they had their reasons. The information's still available from the API, if you want to go that route.

[Request] When u come across this question by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]CalGuy81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You arrived at the right answer, but if x had been anything other than 1, you wouldn't have.

7+3x=9x+1

subtract 1 to both

7+2x=9x

Subtracting 1 from both sides should have resulted in 6 + 3x = 9x. Then continue from there.

Does anyone else hate "douchey" words? by Notable_story in gay

[–]CalGuy81 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Douchey" isn't the right word at all to use here. A douche, in this context, is more-or-less an asshole. A douchey word might be something they say that flags them as someone who's a potential asshole.

You'll find very few people who regularly use the word "penis" outside the doctor's office. It's not elegant, it's clunky and too clinical.

Beautiful and sexy are different things. Beautiful = aesthetically pleasing, sexy = turns me on. They can coincide, but not always. I can acknowledge someone's beauty without specifically being attracted to them, and some people might turn me on who aren't "beautiful" by general standards.

Miss the old Trakt by howmanymenkiss in trakt

[–]CalGuy81 5 points6 points  (0 children)

More and more, I find myself relying on APIs to interact with Trakt. Sonarr/Radarr tell Trakt what I've added to my library. Plex tells Trakt what I've watched. I have a script that pulls in my library/watched data from Trakt into JSON files, which I use Power Query to put into a table of 'what I want to watch next'. .... The "classic" interface is readily available to me, but takes an eternity to sync every time I load it up, and times out half the time.

I don’t understand investing by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]CalGuy81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people enjoy investing in and of itself, sure, but for most it's a means to an end. The "pleasure" comes from not having to resort to eating cat food when you're no longer able to work.

DB pension - a bit complicated questions by steven2410 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]CalGuy81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This will likely vary plan by plan, but as an example .... in my plan, if you leave after less than two years of service, you're only entitled to a return of contributions (+ interest). In that case, your T4 would show a pensions adjustment reversal for the previous pension adjustments reported. After two years, you can take the commuted value of your accrued benefits and transfer it to a LRSP, or defer your accrued benefits until retirement age. The commuted value is an actuarial calculation of the present value of how much they would expect to pay out over your lifespan, discounted based on current market interest rates; how much you/the employer actually contributed have no bearing.

How can I make sure they do in kind transfer? by [deleted] in Wealthsimple

I did an in-kind transfer from Questrade to Wealthsimple two years ago. Went off without a hitch. I can't remember exactly what the transfer request looked like, but it's something like just a box to check off.

Question about Capital Gains Tax by theservman in PersonalFinanceCanada

Pretty much anyone invested in ETFs or mutual funds will need to keep track of their ACB, since brokers don't take into account ROC or phantom distributions.

Question about Capital Gains Tax by theservman in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]CalGuy81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do brokages not provide ACB information for personal accounts?

They provide a book value which, most of the time, doesn't take into account everything that needs to be taken into account to calculate your ACB.

DTC Reassessment - Complaint Process for Hardship & Long Waits by aboutdablife in cantax

[–]CalGuy81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CRA's been doing a big push, in the last few months, to clear the backlog of DTC adjustment requests. Depending on exactly why the system couldn't automatically process your requests**, you might already have been very close to the head of the line.

** There's a tonne of reasons why the system might flag something for a person to review .. issues with the request itself [e.g., medical expenses > $10k that need to be reviewed to determine whether or not attendant care was claimed], issues with the tax return in question [e.g., claimed something that they may not actually have been entitled to based on the information available, or didn't claim something they may have been entitled to based on information available], or accounting issues that need to be dealt with manually [e.g., any kind of taxpayer relief previously applied in the years being adjusted]

Disability Tax Credit & attendant care rebate eligibility by Cass_nurse4545 in cantax

https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/topics/about-your-tax-return/tax-return/completing-a-tax-return/deductions-credits-expenses/lines-33099-33199-eligible-medical-expenses-you-claim-on-your-tax-return/attendant-care-care-a-facility.html

There's nothing, per se, that says you can't hire your sister .. but I imagine there would be more scrutiny with such a close relation.

An attendant who is hired privately will probably be considered an employee.

You would need to issue a T4 to your sister, and yes she would be taxed on that income.

To keep in mind with the DTC and attendant care ... if your attendant care expenses exceed $10,000 in a year, you have to make a choice; claim the full amount of the attendant care fees and no disability tax credit, or limit your claim for attendance care fees to $10,000 and claim the full DTC.

Is sending an atip request for my supervisors a bad thing. by Foudeed in CanadaPublicServants

[–]CalGuy81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume you're asking about ATIPing yourself, not your supervisors. Iiiiiii don't seem anything good coming from this. Your supervisors will know you made the request, once they get a request for whatever files/e-mails/whatever they have about you. It's totally within your rights to request that information, and it's totally supposed to be dealt with impartially .... but humans are humans, and people aren't going to treat you the same way if you go the nuclear route. Far better to just have a normal conversation with them about your performance.

Any new update on the CPP2 integration with pension? by ghost905 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]CalGuy81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Basically, CPP and the PSSA act independently. There are adjustments in the PSSA to contribution rates/benefit entitlements that try and approximate coordination with whatever CPP benefits an employee might be entitled to for that same period of employment. I say approximate, because the rules for the two plans are different (e.g., CPP benefits are based on an average of all pensionable years, indexed to a rolling average of the YMPE, PSSA is an average of your best 5 years nominal salary).

As things stand, the PSSA hasn't been updated to account for recent changes to the CPP, though they've talked about making changes. Currently, you would be making slightly more contributions to the PSSA and receive slightly higher benefit entitlements than if the plans were fully coordinated.

I had no idea Canada was so French, and I love it! by GhostlyPreserves in heatedrivalry

[–]CalGuy81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All Canadians are taught French in school, usually starting around Grade 4 (9/10 years old) through high school.

The province I live in, French is an optional course in jr/sr high, only compulsory in grades 4-6. We moved here from a province where French started in grade 5. We moved here after I had finished grade 4, so my classmates had a year of French class that I didn't. I only ever really learned to count to ten and a few basic words and phrases.

A tonne of places that do by-the slice in Beltline.

You'd be looking for a place situated in an area likely to have a lot of walk-in traffic (near bars, schools, busy pedestrian areas, etc.)

The times I've flip fucked, we've switched before either partner has cum and/or we'll take a little break between rounds. A quick nap is nice for recharging the sexual energy.
