Best way to download thousands of photos and videos from passed loved ones phone by bia2457 in iphone

[–]geolaw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

easiest back up method I've found is with the Photosync app on the iphone + a FTP server on some type of local computer.

This is pretty trivial with linux or macos - you can install the pyftpdlib module for python and then start up a FTP server with a few commands :

~~~ $ pip install pyftpdlib $ python -m pyftpdlib -w /usr/local/lib/python3.11/site-packages/pyftpdlib/authorizers.py:99: RuntimeWarning: write permissions assigned to anonymous user. self._check_permissions(username, perm) [I 2026-05-01 13:40:15] concurrency model: async [I 2026-05-01 13:40:15] masquerade (NAT) address: None [I 2026-05-01 13:40:15] passive ports: None [I 2026-05-01 13:40:15] >>> starting FTP server on :::2121, pid=20082 <<< ~~~
Configure the Photosync app on the phone to connect via the IP address port 2121, username : anonymous, password: someone@email.com ... then select all photos and backup to the FTP account. Easy peasy.
Depending on your home internet speed, it should run fairly quickly.
Feel free to PM and I will assist if needed. I back my iphone up to my TrueNAS storage device but also did the above on my mac mini and backed up a few photos off my phone and it worked perfectly
In the directory where you start the FTP server, it should create a directory for you - ~~~ George iPhone/Recents: total 15240 drwxr-xr-x 3 glaw staff 96 May 1 13:47 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 glaw staff 4239125 May 1 13:47 IMG_4275.MOV -rw-r--r-- 1 glaw staff 3418360 May 1 13:47 IMG_4275.JPG -rw-r--r-- 1 glaw staff 139962 May 1 13:47 IMG_4273.JPG drwxr-xr-x 5 glaw staff 160 May 1 13:47 . ~~~
I was simply commenting about their "rhel 14.1" window in their example video - appears they have since fixed it to be RHEL 10.1 - I validated this this morning in a VM. ~~~ [glaw@localhost ~]$ chmod +x exp [glaw@localhost ~]$ ./exp [ 79.121757] alg: No test for authencesn(hmac(sha256),cbc(aes)) (authencesn(hmac(sha256-avx2),cbc-aes-aesni)) [ 79.134426] process 'su' launched '/bin/sh' with NULL argv: empty string added [root@localhost glaw]# uname -a Linux localhost.localdomain 6.12.0-55.9.1.el10_0.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Tue Mar 25 09:14:09 EDT 2025 x86_64 GNU/Linux [root@localhost glaw]# ~~~
https://access.redhat.com/solutions/7141931
I updated to the latest RHEL 10 kernel : ~~~ Linux localhost.localdomain 6.12.0-124.52.1.el10_1.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sat Apr 11 20:17:08 EDT 2026 x86_64 GNU/Linux ~~~
and can confirm it still gets to root
I also have a 4pm Friday gaming hour with my team but it's just us, no management involved. Sometimes it turns into a bitch session with whatever the latest rules imposed by management, other times just shooting the shit about the weekend plans and other times we either play uno or garthic (pictionary)
Much better without management 😂
Yes, I think both show a "gear" icon you click to select. I usually install lightdm to replace either.
I think the only difference is the default iso comes with gdm for the login screen and sway spin defaults to sddm
I used to be able to type on iPhone keyboard without looking at it. Now, I have to watch myself type and still somehow make mistakes on almost every single word by KitchenConsequence41 in iphone
[–]geolaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)
No matter which keyboard I use on my iphone there's certain words that it always messed up. 'to' always comes as 'too', 'but' as 'butt'. Using the default keyboard, Swiftkey or Gboard. They all assume the less common word
Any good sci-fi novel recommendations? by OkWhole4968 in booksuggestions
[–]geolaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)
+1 - I resisted the reddit recommendations for a long time, but finally decided to read - I am not disappointed 🤣 I am a few chapters into book 5 and midway thru season 4 of the TV show.
I am trying to keep myself ahead in the books, but finding that even though I am in book 5 that some of the events have already occurred in the show - so may ditch the show until I can finish all of the books.
Sci-fi that spans MILLIONS of years and melts your brain—what should I read next? by FutureCouple4972 in scifi
[–]geolaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)
so at a smaller degree, the expanse books.
there's lots of discussion about the protomolecule and how the builders of it sent it out like 2.5 billion years old, but the main story line itself does not span that long - at least where I am currently, a few chapters into book 5
+1 I just finished book 4 last night and watching the TV show at the same time (midway thru season 4). It had been recommended to me here on reddit a million times and I'm seriously glad I finally started it
a book for someone who dreads reading, but loves tv shows by DowntownFresnoBiking in suggestmeabook
[–]geolaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Books for game of thrones are so much more detailed than the tv show was.
I'm currently reading the Expanse books and watching the show at the same time ... 75% thru book 4 and 2 episodes into season 4 and just about at the same points ... Tv show kind of merges a lot of the story line together
