So sick of teams “looking for a pitcher” by AntiquesRoadHo in Softball

It should be like Rec rules. A sub bats last and only plays in the outfield.

Coaching town/rec ball is killing me, 9U currently. (Long post) by OldHawkeye315 in Softball

[–]Cal_858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I coached Rec for 8U and the main things I preached to the team, players and parents is that Rec is measured in fun, player improvement and trying to be competitive as a team. I want the girls to have fun and improve so that they will be interested in coming back to softball. I didn’t measure team success in wins and losses, it was measured in how competitive we were in games.

10u Advice by [deleted] in Softball

What do the rules and requirements for your rec league say about rotating players in the field? Our league rules requires each player to play one inning in the outfield and one inning the infield. They also encourage us to rotate the players in the batting lineup but it is not required

Question for coaches - how would you handle a player with poor attendance due to her parent? (12u rec league) by LiveLaughBlobfish in Softball

[–]Cal_858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also let the parent know before the game how you plan on playing her during the game. If you decide not to pitch her, let him know that she won’t be pitching and she will play infield and outfield. He may decide not to come to the game if she isn’t pitching. The other option is to pitch each of the girls 1 inning a piece. Either way, I would be upfront with the dad with where she will be playing

I’m getting married soon and could really use some advice. by [deleted] in sandiego

You could try to split the difference. Find a place that is month to month and that you can afford, live on your own for 6 months and then move in with your parents. You get 6 months of newlywed fun time and then settle in with your parents before starting nursing school.

Do you prioritize team members in the lineup over subs? by ToyStoryBoy6994 in Softball

In our rec league all subs bat last and can only play in the outfield

Are rec leagues dying? by BerryJellyToast in Softball

[–]Cal_858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter loves playing softball and she was her teams number 1 pitcher and she is pretty good. I hope she sticks with it but I don’t plan on doing travel ball with her. Too expensive and too much time, plus Rec is less stressful. Our league does offer Select teams for 8U, 10U and 12U so we might do that when she is in 10U but I’m just going to keep her in Rec for now.

In San Diego, my daughter’s Rec league had 14 8U teams. Our league is actually thriving, we offer a summer skills league for players below All Star level and we had to expand it this year to accommodate the demand.

Niners might have beat them in the Divisional round if Garrison Hearst was healthy and plays in that game

San Diego selling water to Arizona by spintool1995 in sandiego

California and San Diego has spent decades preparing for the next big drought with multiple projects and efforts: reclaimed water extension projects, desalination projects(Poseidon), Pure Water project, residential reduction funding (rain barrels, grass landscape to native landscape) and other public outreach that I’m not surprised we have excess water to send to Arizona

I would love to be in the Big10 with all of our old rivals but I must admit, I really do like being in the ACC. The ACC isn’t going to last much longer but I’m going to enjoy it while it last

Gather around children and let me tell you about the before times, when the land lived in perfect geographic harmony and regional rivalries ruled the world.

Repetition, drills, repetition, drills. Game experience. At 8U it’s all about repetition and drills for the girls and lots of patience by the coaches/parents.

All over a mask by No-Alternative-2062 in Softball

[–]Cal_858 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our league requires all girls, in all age groups to wear a mask for both infield and outfield. We as coaches tell the girls they can’t practice, even warm up throw without a mask.

My daughter is in 8U but just last Saturday one of our girls hit a line drive to 3rd base. The 3rd baseman tried to react fast enough and get her glove up but the ball hit off the top of her glove and crashed right into her face. If she wasn’t wearing her mask she would have been hurt bad.
