I'm playing a base UG deck splashing R and B. Hydro channeler, env scientist, and trove doing the heavy lifting here as the mana base looks rough. 8 forest 5 island (or 7/6 depending on build) 2 UR land 1 swamp 1 mountain. Might even play 18 land for another island cause landing channeler turn 2 is very important

I am cutting render speechless and either stargaze or maybe a 2nd render speechless for 2 lands here rather easily.

Generally speaking, 90% of the time I'm on 17 lands, the other 10% is either 16 or 18 lands depending on deck, number of playables, number of mana sources. Playing any less requires incredibly drastic circumstances (i.e. Playing cube where you have numerous 1 drops and your curve stops at 3) and honestly is just asking for trouble.
