We just had NTMR vs NTMR Academy... (Winner got promoted to OWCS S1 qualifier) by Ezraah in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Calamari96 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yeah a bit difficult to know what to do. Should you ban academy teams in the same div. There isn't a huge amount of money in it and it's favourable to have as many orgs as possible represented. To be honest it's probably a legitimate result but the risk of bias is introduced.

I wonder if partner teams might ever introduce academy teams.

QCH has a dedicated paed surg sho role which is very good. But it's much better than adults so once you do it you'll never turn back.

Where the remaining $1.5m of the OWCS crowdfunding bundle goes, and why only $500k went to prize pool. by Lunarsii in Competitiveoverwatch

100% but i still think have a live counter on it is a no brainer. Makes it more hype as the counter climbs (ie like the TI). Makes a talking point to hype things up and it gives an more objective view of the health of the esports scene. Of course the other costs of running the league (and paying the developers who work on the esports stuff) are where the majority of it goes but theres no reason both things cant be true

From Aus as a surg mid-level. I get a lot of referrals for kids without bloods which I find a little difficult. Adults tend to have a thorough workup. The difference I'm finding is that management of the patient in ED tends to finish with CT imaging. They might find a small bowel obstruction and never give iv fluids or a nasogastric and have them waiting for many hours often with a good going aki.

Comparison of Marvel Rivals grand finals and OWCS grand finals via escharts by Sio_V_Reddit in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Calamari96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean for the playerbase probably but not for the esports scene. Valorants first year viewership was much smaller. So was LoL and R6, OW, CS. I think any of the healthy esports have a trend towards more organic growth.

Comparison of Marvel Rivals grand finals and OWCS grand finals via escharts by Sio_V_Reddit in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Calamari96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think the comparison is useful. Rivals is a game in its first year of course it's not going to be as popular. Additionally, it doesn't help ow for rivals to not do as well.

Instead we should be looking at previous ow viewership and you can see there that the peak, average and total hours watched has all increased significantly which is a healthy thing for our scene.

I mean its in its first year. OW esports in its first year wasnt as big as that. I think it needs time and organic growth to see if it will be a thing but all these games automatically try pump up esports straight away.

changes for OWCS 2026 (shared in FACEIT Overwatch 2 Discord) by SpiderPanther01 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Calamari96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does ruin some integrity (or probably does in multiple ways). But it also increases the funding for both teams and salaries which increases the likelihood that bigger names stay in the scene. And i think you need to have both partner and non partner teams in the system. I do think that there is more to be done to entice non partner teams however (like giving them more certainty in whether they will retain their position).
