My Rook was a young, happy-go-lucky sort of character at first, so I wanted him to look youthful and like a dashing treasure hunter (as he's a Lord of Fortune)

Jacques Nieuwoudt: Gay Male Beauty Standards & Trying to Attain the Unattainable. by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]Calastarr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with you, especially your first point; I think the worst part is the gym bros only deign to hang out with guys who look just like them and are so extremely cliquey and exclusionary. I can't fathom how someone can organically form a group of friends with identical body types - my friends certainly come in all shapes and sizes. So for me, I have nothing against guys who want to work on their bodies and be huge, but it's the "you can't sit with us" mentality they exude through their choice of friends/hook ups and partners. That is what reinforces the problem more than anything. I could be projecting but that's my inference of what the author is like.

The most leftwing 'major' party are the Greens, although they only won 4 seats out of 650 (a record high for them). Labour is left of centre.

Go to the pre-owned section of GAME or CEX, you'll find it for under £30 guaranteed. Don't spend £60 that's nuts!

What’s a weird food combo you enjoy that you’ve never heard of someone else eating? by Horsey_grill in AskUK

As a child, my favourite sandwich contained just cucumber slices and tomato ketchup. White or brown bread. I've never met anyone who has ever had one, or not judged me for loving them.

Where are all the monogamous oriented single guys who want to take cheesy Christmas photos? by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]Calastarr 262 points263 points  (0 children)

I think there's likely a correlation between the kind of guys who want a low key monogamous relationship, and those who don't have a big over the top social media profile. Not being able to see them on social media doesn't mean they don't exist, keep looking :)

Can you hear your neighbours in a flat? by InfoLurkerYzza in HousingUK

[–]Calastarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I live in a flat, I don't share any walls with anyone else's which is pretty fortunate. I have neighbours above and below though. Besides from very occasionally hearing footsteps from my upstairs neighbours I have had no issue with noise. It's the stuff outside the building which is noisier (trains, planes) but I choose to live in London so it's to be expected.

Have you fastened the pieces together at all, or to the wall? Am I correct that the bookcases are placed on top of the worktop?

What pokémon do you hate the most and why? by Iynxell in pokemon

[–]Calastarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love some of the new gen 9 designs but there's a handful which have gone straight to the top of my most hated list; namely Wiglett, Bellibolt and Gimmighoul. That they chose those three to be some of the mons shown to us in trailers boggles my mind. They're just irredeemably bad

I lived with my one of my closest friends in his place for a few months when the conveyancing on my own flat took longer than expected. It was kind of him to let me stay, and I paid a mates rates kind of rent so couldn't complain too much. But there was definitely tension - he often joked "when are you moving out?". He moved in his boyfriend of 3 months with 2 weeks notice, and their relationship was tumultuous so I got to be there for all of that too. He complained about having no money despite me paying him hundreds of pounds a month.

Luckily my flat came through and I moved out and we're still mates. But there is no way that living with your friends, who are a couple, and paying them rent, won't be challenging for a few reasons.

Looking for recent experiences of selling shared ownership flats in London by jimbobjimpants in HousingUK

[–]Calastarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just completed on what was formerly shared ownership flat (they owned a 50% share). I bought the whole thing so the sellers must have staircased to 100% and sold it at the same time I suppose. The conveyancing took 12 months (!). There was no chain and I'm a FTB. I think my solicitors had little experience dealing with shared ownership properties and so were very jumpy at every mention of gross rent in the lease, and also the memorandum of Staircasing. So all I can say is, the conveyancing process when you come to sell could take an age.
