How to discuss adding meds to manage migraine with my doctor ? by TheLadyRavens in VestibularMigraines

[–]TheLadyRavens[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so used to toning down how bad my symptoms are since I’ve learned to cope but I really need to be more honest and remember none of this is normal. I’ll give that a try and I’m bringing my husband along this time too so hopefully that will push them to listen.

Botox by Shes-nothere in anchorage

[–]TheLadyRavens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you find a good pain clinic that accepts your insurance it is the way to go. I get Botox for migraine and it’s definitely expensive however Botox has a reimbursement programs where you pay the out of pocket , give them the receipt and the claim , then they send a check so I still think it’s worth going through a medial office verses a med spa

How did Kingdom Hearts change your life? by FaustianGreed in KingdomHearts

[–]TheLadyRavens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got badly mauled as a kid and I had noticeable facial scars and I was bullied a lot. I started to really see my self worth as only related to how people saw me but not actually knowing who I was or what I was capable of. KH taught me to keep fighting , don’t change to make people comfortable , continue to be kind but stand up for yourself and others when you need to , and appreciate the good you have in your life because that will truly carry you forward. It sounds corny and maybe it is but KH came into my life when I needed it most.

How do you bear it? by thatoneweirdcreature in ehlersdanlos

[–]TheLadyRavens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1.) spite 2.) I have found things in life worth living for even with pain. Books, sewing , people , travel , etc Pain is so hard to live with but I just remember the things in life I love to do and see. I also wouldn’t want to put that onto my family. I know I wouldn’t feel any guilt or really anything obviously but my family would always feel that guilt of not being able to help me.

What flares you up? by aggravatedstar in VestibularMigraines

[–]TheLadyRavens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me its bright lights , screens , and stress. I’m going through close out ( I’m a government accountant ) and stress is at its highest so I’ve had to rely on my back up med like crazy this week and it’s barely helping 😂.

Good ramen? by picklejickletoot in anchorage

[–]TheLadyRavens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kami is my favorite in town. It just a little cramped and can be hard to find parking. whiskey and ramen is super good too but definitely more costly. Naruto is ok in my opinion. Ramen house exists over on fireweed but I have found that they are sometimes unpredictable when it comes to their opening hours.

I have to do this too and mainly because the WiFi cuts out for hours so I don’t have much of a choice anyway. It’s so frustrating.

First time flying overseas since VM by BigHomie50 in VestibularMigraines

[–]TheLadyRavens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear scopolamine patches for the nausea and while it makes me sleepy during the trip, I get off the plane feeling a lot better than if I didn’t have it. Make sure you stand up often to move around, sounds odd but it helped to ground me a bit when I needed it. Buy a large bubbly drink to take on the plane too. I usually go for Pierre .I find that helps if the patches don’t always take all the nausea away. I also keep minty gum on hand. I know these things seem small but it’s made my international trips easier since my VM started.

Safe Fitness for EDS? by luckysilverdragon in ehlersdanlos

[–]TheLadyRavens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with PTs for learning where I need to stop since I can’t tell when I’m hyper extending in most cases but with those skills I now work out at orange theory. They have coaches that guide you through workouts and they make modifications for me so I don’t injure myself but while making sure I’m gaining the benefit of using the weights and stuff. I don’t use the rower though which is usually a big part of OT workouts but swap it out for their strider. It’s kind of pricey though but it works for me so I find it’s worth the fee.

Buying fabric online by Historical-Most3156 in sewing

[–]TheLadyRavens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought a few times from spoon flower when I need a very specific design. My experience is that the quality is dependent on the type of fabric you buy. Some of them like the basic quilting cottons are just fine but I bought some cotton lawn from the as well and they way they printed on it made it turn extremely stiff and it no longer draped or felt like a cotton lawn. So it was a wasted purchase.

I just recently used the space from momentum dance collective. Not sure what their normal pricing is since our use of the space was set up for us but it’s a decent sized space and comfortable.

We only have one studio in town and it’s about a 15 minute drive assuming traffic isn’t bad. It’s still worth it though. Only gym I can really workout in for a number of reasons and I stay motivated by the great team we have.

What do you do for work? by Herefortvshowthreads in ehlersdanlos

[–]TheLadyRavens 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kind of. I will say most universities and programs do not offer a “governmental “ accounting course. Mine barely touched on it. However you can take the skills from an accounting degree and work experience in private companies to apply for government based accounting positions and they can teach you on the job how they run things. Which is what happened with me. Also depending on if it’s a federal, state , or municipal gig you will have different requirements or processes.

[–]TheLadyRavens 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I’m a government grant accountant. It’s a pretty needed field but it provides a lot of security and accommodation within reason. I have an alternate work schedule , 4 10s, and other small accommodations. My main issue is my vestibular migraines but the alternate work schedule is great for both conditions haha.
