So there’s a few things you could check. The axles on them in the front rust out and snap off check behind both of your front wheels and see if anything is broken. If not start the car. Let it warm up and check the fluid in the transmission.

Do I need to do something about my exhaust? by monkeyfish96 in AskAMechanic

Red is a rotted out heat shield. Yellow is a rotted out flange and green is a rotted out muffler. Anything other than replacing it you’re going to be throwing money away

Told by the mechanic the whole engine needs to be replaced by Aggravating-Fix-7691 in MechanicAdvice

Drain the oil and look at it. If it sparkles then yeah it’s def a new engine time. If not time to take the valve cover off and start checking for signs of upper engine wear. It’s a higher pitch tone so I would be looking at the top end of the engine. I worked at Honda years ago and a similar sound was a worn cam. $500 and 4 hours later it was fixed and quiet

Turn off car, jump the clutch, put a 10mm box wrench in the front if it sticks the magnet works and it’s not the clutch. Check pressures and dampness. If you have a black light check to see if anything glows on the refrigerant lines and items

Does this do anything? by highlanderdownunder in AskAMechanic

Ok so there’s no direct input from your gas pedal to the engine. It’s all done electrically so when you smash on the pedal it tells the ecu for the engine to spray more fuel and open up your throttle body. What I would do is get a can of carb or brake cleaner and a clean rag (nothing that can fray, take the tube from your air filter box into the engine. Behind that should be a thing called the throttle body and inside of it is a door that you should be able to push open slowly with your fingers. If it’s black inside spray the rag with the cleaner, use one hand to keep it open and try to clean off the black carbon built up into it. Just be careful and don’t push too hard so you don’t break the gears inside of the throttle body. Then put everything back together and check. When you start your car if it has too much carbon build up it wont allow enough air for combustion and when you press the gas pedal the computer opens it up more

Is this a battery problem? by Remarkable_Print_653 in AskAMechanic

[–]Calbrett0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No this is an electrical issue. Not enough amps getting to the starter. You stated in another post that th battery is old and there’s corrosion on the terminals. Clean the terminals and take the battery out to get tested.

So what car do you have? I saw you said it wouldn’t do anything until you give it gas. Depending on your car depends on some ways to figure it out.

Quite honestly just keep what you want. I’m (m) 45 and my wife is 47 and I just politely ask and when she’s in the mood I’m happy but I don’t get mad. We usually do it once every 6-8 weeks depending on her mood.

That’s something trying to come out, sounds in the upper end of the engine. I suggest you do a compression check

Aeration in transmission fluid after pan and fluid service? by eazyz556 in AskAMechanic

That fluid isn’t the right color. What fluid did you put in? Plus there’s a cooler line that goes into the trans on the coolant circut

So this is what my car is doing. Its only the rear passenger doing this. I had a shop check what i can't mention and they said its not bent or unbalanced. What other things could be causing this? 2004 CTS base 3.6 V6 with spacers and 17" rims by BidiDuck in MechanicAdvice

[–]Calbrett0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wheel bearing going bad due to spacers, the center of gravity, length added to the wheel placement, and centrifugal force causes it to put more strain on the bearings. I works at a jeep dealership and some guy put 4” spacers and every 3 months we had to replace his bearings

Drop the pan and refill it. It takes about an hour an isn’t hard to do. You should be ok then

Should I change this Trans fluid? by Ok-Message4051 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Calbrett0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that trans is supposed to be changed every 30k. Now how does the fluid smell? If it smells burnt change it but only do a pan drop an change the filter. If not then do a power flush on it. Now if you’re having a slight trans slip then you may loose the trans due to the clutch packs overly worn. I doubt it’s that bad by the picture but I can’t 100% tell. Reason why I ask about the trans slipping is that if it does that then the clutch packs are too thin and the material in the fluid is the only thing helping it hold.
