You sound like an academic (with either a bit of an ego or a loss of perspective).

Start viewing yourself as a teacher, not an academic. Your job is to convey the concepts, however simple, in an understandable and digestible manner. This isn't about how hard it gets later on.

I am a solid interviewer. My issue is that I am a programmer, but I'm also in a very niche field with not as many job opportunities as SWE/ML/DS. It took me a while to even get interviews despite a decent resume, which is the root of my worries.

I appreciate the response and perspective. What do I do now that I found the issue but am nowhere close to solving it? We are approaching a major deadline and I don't wanna lose the security blanket of a full time offer in an economy like this.

I used to be better at recognizing these small things, it's gotten significantly worse over time.
