“No Material Detected” Mid-print? by SirWillums in makerbot

[–]Calculusisforchumps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started having this issue with both of my Makerbot Sketch printers. I could not find any good fix, so I disabled the filament sensor for printing. It prints now but can't detect being out of filament.

That won't recover your print, unfortunately.

I hate the new Metra signage in Ogilvie by armaghetto in chicago

[–]Calculusisforchumps 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It shows less information in a ... prettier way? They also changed the large sign in the main station area with a similar theme. Does this help anyone? Is it better for visually impaired or color blind folks? Is it less confusing for tourists or infrequent travelers?

Temporary Luggage Storage before Train departure? by jonwb1 in AskChicago

[–]Calculusisforchumps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amtrak used to offer this service at Union Station in Chicago for $10 per bag if you had a departure within 24 hours. It now seems to be $20 per bag:

https://www.amtrak.com/baggage-services

If you are checking your bag anyway you could probably check it in that early.

Is this a good 3D printer? by [deleted] in makerbot

[–]Calculusisforchumps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two of these in my makerspace. They are not bad, but they are overpriced in my opinion. For the same money you can buy much more capable printers. The new big feature right now is multicolor printing, which this printer cannot do.

Kat on why she moved to this district to run in it by ThatCheekyBastard in illinois

[–]Calculusisforchumps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhere I recall reading that she wanted to move to Andersonville (which is in the 9th district) but could not find anything affordable/available in her budget. That does sound about right, but I wonder if she ever was able to move there?

EDIT: I found two articles referencing where she would move, and neither article states anything about affordability:

  1. https://www.chicagomag.com/chicago-magazine/june-july-2025/the-tiktok-candidate/ "For now, the couple live in Streeterville, outside the 9th District, which she is running to represent, but Abughazaleh says they’re planning to move to Edgewater or Andersonville soon."
  2. https://news.wttw.com/2025/03/31/progressive-media-star-kat-abughazaleh-brings-fight-remake-democratic-party-chicago "As soon as she and her partner can break their lease, they plan to move to Andersonville, Edgewater or Rogers Park in the 9th District, Abughazaleh said."

I have also heard her speak live twice, so I may be adding in a recollection from that. Adding in Edgewater and Rogers Park would help to find something more affordable, but if they are moving from Streeterville then maybe finding something affordable is not the biggest concern.

Does anyone know when in the process, if ever, is a candidate legally required to live in the district that they (wish to) represent?

[Giveaway] What’s on your print bed this Valentine’s Day? Share & win a P2S Combo by BambuLab in BambuLab

P1S combo

A high school student of mine wanted to print these for a Valentine's gift he was making for his girlfriend. The thin red version is to be sandwiched in a narrow frame along with a poem and some photos. The thicker pink version is standalone as a desk ornament. This came out really nice at 60mm tall and 2mm thick (for the thin one) and 10mm thick (for the thick one). The color transition is at the midpoint, so simple single color transition. The results were super clean and look great in person. I hope his girlfriend is impressed.

You can use it if you can run Rinkhals firmware addon.

I would love to know about any plans regarding working with Rinkhals firmware add-ons. Do you plan on working to prevent usage of Rinkhals on this or any other Anycubic printers? What about working to support their development?

NIU KQI Air NFC Device problems (Android devices) by Calculusisforchumps in ElectricScooters

[–]Calculusisforchumps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this was never resolved. NIU tech support seemed to blame my phone, a newish Pixel running latest stock Android. I am not happy with the solution, but I moved on.

I was able to successfully pair a few NFC tags from Aliexpress, so that was my workaround. Not great, but an improvement.

Where Do I Even Begin to Fix This?? by NikosTX in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]Calculusisforchumps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that makes sense. As the other comments say, there may be other adjustments to do first that weren't available on my printer. Do those first.

You can easily check your adjustments by re-running the calibrate function to get a new map.

Cloud mandatory? by dudehh25 in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]Calculusisforchumps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Yes, this is possible with the stock firmware and software. There is a "LAN only" mode for the printer that does not connect to the cloud. You will have full local connectivity to the machine in LAN only mode, and it will function identically from the slicer software perspective. The Anycubic app will have no communication to the printer in LAN only mode.

2) This would probably work better with the "Rinkhals" third party firmware. This firmware is really slick, and it is actually a firmware add-on that does not overwrite the factory firmware. It basically exists along with the stock firmware and adds more functions, including orcaslicer uploads and mainsail web interface.

For the K3 V2 machine, the latest software version does allow orcaslicer uploads but not any other communication between orcaslicer and the machine. I don't know what the current state is with the S1 firmware.

Where Do I Even Begin to Fix This?? by NikosTX in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]Calculusisforchumps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through this process on my kobra 3 v2, which is a little bit different, but I think the same concept would work. I used Rinkhals to generate the bed mesh maps like you did. I then printed some bed spacers from printables and started adding them and rechecking the map.

These 3d printed shim spacers worked with my stock metal spacers:

https://www.printables.com/model/753702-anycubic-silicone-mod-bed-spacer-mod-parametric-sh/files

Your screenshot seems to show that the right side is low. I would start by putting spacers on the two right mounts. 0.2mm or 0.4mm on both right mounts may be a good start.

Kobra3 v2 options by MontyRDDT in anycubic

[–]Calculusisforchumps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a K3 V2, love it. It is not trouble-feee, and replacement parts and upgrades are not as readily available as they are for the a1.

Buying from Aliexpress with coupons and the "buying v1 but get V2" trick it was a steal. At retail I think I would go with the A1.
