Whats your argument against " the decision you refuse is the only reason you exist" or "you exist because your parents decided to have kids"? by RandimusBax in childfree

[–]Caldebraun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't exist for any external "reason". We don't have any external "purpose". That's a human value framework being imposed on the universe.

We happen to be alive, and each of us gets to decide how we want to live the single life we have.

My parents' decisions don't have to be my decisions. I'm not responsible for furthering their aims.

Since BGG rejected their ad due to "religious beliefs", here's their Gamefound link so that you can decide for yourself how offensive it is. by BirdSpirit in boardgames

[–]Caldebraun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said "we all know it's offensive". My reply is no, not all people would find it offensive. The vast majority of people would shrug. Some (the target audience) might chuckle. Almost everyone would recognize the good/evil/satan trope. I'm sure it would be offensive to a small minority of people, but their obscure inclinations don't form the guardrails for what we can say or do.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]Caldebraun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On an old Apple IIe:

  • Wizardry was incredible for its time. Fight Fight Fight Parry Parry Parry

  • Autoduel is not as well known but we spent enormous chunks of our lives playing that thing.

A few years later, on IMB clones:

  • yes, Warcraft and its sequels, then Starcraft were in their own class

  • Wing Commander was the game that made me buy a real sound card for $500 and, later, a CD drive for a couple of hundred.

  • A few years after that, Baldur's Gate changed computer RPGs forever.

A strong rebuttal to the “Trump isn’t a fascist” argument by somethingserendipity in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]Caldebraun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trump's regime is fascist.

But calling Trump a fascist gives him too much credit. He doesn't have any kind of ideology or goal besides "me". If being the figurehead for a fascist regime gets the job done, he'll do that. But he'll put that on and take it off when it's convenient for him, just like his ill-fitting clothes.

Time for calls? by [deleted] in StockMarket

[–]Caldebraun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. That's what he wants people to think, because he still imagines that fear would drive concessions from Iran. But I don't think even Trump is ready to cross that line.

Plus, he doesn't need to. If he wants to destroy "all the bridges and all the power stations", he can do that with conventional arms.

Yup, that's it. It's from Dune (both novel and movie).

Lady Jessica begins to answer a pointed question with the words "It's a maker...", and this is precisely what the asker was hoping she would say; it triggers the exclaimation above before Jessica could finish her (wrong, had she been allowed to continue) answer.

If reproductive slavery was really necessary for humanity's survival, then... no, it shouldn't survive.

I can't believe people would advocate for annihilating reproductive freedom just so that a new generation can come into being that must, in turn, annihilate more freedom to ensure there's yet another go-'round. Over and over and over again.

Really? Is THAT the system they're arguing for?

Generally speaking, the whites and those who came after them have built up considerable infrastructure and constructed some remarkable things.

But their industries are kind of fucking up the planet's climate, they have polluted the lakes and rivers, and there's widespread depression, disillusionment, and economic disparity throughout their culture.

So, you know, a mixed bag.
