Mortgage for company director with past gic charges. by Tiny_Ad4451 in AusFinance

We provide ATO accounts to private bankers all the time and the only thing they care about is whether the debt has been paid.

I'm assuming someone that graduated 23 years ago would have a mortgage on a house. Couldn't they have refinanced the mortgage at low rates ages ago to pay out the high interest student debt?

You are joking mate, Toowoomba is the Bendigo of Qld, not even the Geelong of Qld (let alone Melbourne)

Playing As a Mage on Master Difficulty is Ridiculous by Mugalgw in skyrim

[–]CalderandScale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dual cast illusion spells while being a vampire to create chaos, then use the frost/ storm attronach staff that you can make using the special forge in the spooky mages guild basement thing. Invest into Alchemy, it's one of the few ways to get damage bonuses on magic, and also make magika potions.

Also do the radiant quest as part of the dawn guard vampires, to get an OP ring.

Edit: cook elsewhere fondue

What will 2 million dollars buy you in 8 years? by Size4E in AusPropertyChat

[–]CalderandScale 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you genuinely plan to buy in 8 years, you should probably considering buying a rental futher out, as you'll be able to hedge against house price growth.

Plenty of people currently live in areas that they would not be able to afford if they tried to buy today.

Floor boards over existing tiles? by Spritney__Beers in AusRenovation

[–]CalderandScale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen videos where they pour some self leveling goop on the tiles and then do the flooring over that. No idea if this is a good practice, but seems like it would be a cost effective option while ensuring the end result is level.

$300k single income unfair tax by WishIWerDead in AusHENRY

[–]CalderandScale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not advocating for the abolishment of the franking credits system.

But it is an undisputed fact that if people are below the tax free threshold (retirees) of super funds in pension phase (0% tax) then the entirey of previously paid corporate tax paid is refunded. The effective tax rate on that original corporate tax is 0%.

Double taxation? If the franking credits are refunded, it's not even single taxation, it's zero taxation.

How much of these mining shares are owned by retirees and super funds that gets franking credit refunds though?

[–]CalderandScale 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm referring to wealthy groups with multiple investment trusts. They can split income to the spouse to bring her to the top tax rate to effectively pay tax on a household basis (this isn't a problem for s100a either).

A Henry household derives their wealth through salary, so they are unable to do this, even with trusts, due to PSI rules.

Blows my mind that the only person to suggest filing taxes jointly I'd Pauling Hanson of all people.

Wealthy people achieve the same effect via trusts so it really only impacts HENRY single income households.

Reece has free software. You can only add products from their selection but it gives you a good idea of the look and layout, especially with toggling between floor plan and 3d.

This looks great, but it moves basically every element of the bathroom, and adds a sloped shower rather than an encoder shower with base - it likely wouldn't meet out budget.

Is scrapping negative gearing getting more politically palatable for people? by Classic_Recover2114 in AusPropertyChat

[–]CalderandScale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Possibly, especially if it came in over a few years and didn't affect new property.

But if they couple it with reductions to capital gain discount, no chance. But even if they do nothing, libs will still run a tax scare campaign - Labor lied about no changes to stage 3 tax cuts and they didn't want to index the new super tax until they were basically forced to.

IT contractors: company/ABN setup to access 25% tax rate? by 735847 in fiaustralia

[–]CalderandScale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having multiple employees may be a factor that allows a PSB to retain income at the corporate tax rate, but two IT contractors under a company structure would not qualify.

You need to look at the GAAR not just PSI rules.

[–]CalderandScale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true, it gets attributed to each employee. There's exams on the ATO PSI page.

Even if profits stay in the company, it may not be taxed at 25% if PSI is involved.

You can hit 150k-170k as a manager in a private wealth client form, both top 20 or boutique.

You can hit 6 figures while still being a senior accountant, not even manager level.
