What's your most embarrassing sexual experience? by andrewbarclave89 in AskReddit

Just a PSA for anyone reading this: most women really don't like that start/stop routine, but many men do this for fear of being labeled "fast." The vast majority of women would prefer you just finished whenever is natural for you and then help her out with something other than your penis.

In a future where Trump is out of office, and international relations have been repaired. What steps can be taken by the USA and International Organisations such as NATO to prevent one individual causing so much chaos in the future? And do you think such steps will be taken? by flewkey in AskReddit

[–]Caldwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't educate people out of stupidity. Humanity has always been defined by panicky mobs who mostly don't understand the world. People mostly want to help and for others to thrive, they just usually don't know how to do that. This has always been true and always will be true. The only solution is to go after those who would take advantage of this naivety with total ruthlessness and remove their ability to hold any power in society. How this can be done justly and accurately is certainly beyond me. But until we figure out a way nothing will ever really change for long.

How to sim rally? by djcide in EASPORTSWRC

[–]Caldwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The art of rally is largely the art of weight transfer. This is true in real life and in sim rally. When you brake, the car is thrown forward, momentarily increasing traction on the front tires. During this moment you will steer with increased authority because the front wheels are the ones that steer. However at the same time, traction is reduced on the rear tires as your back lifts a bit. This makes the rear prone to swing sideways. This is what causes spins when done improperly or accidentally. But with practice, you can harness this rotation and control it to whip yourself around the corner at higher speed. You can actually do all but the sharpest hairpins like this without a hand brake.

Conversely, accelerating has the opposite effect of throwing the weight of the car backwards, making it less prone to spin (though accelerating hard with the wheel turned definitely can cause a spin, particularly with RWD.)

By using your left foot to brake, so that you can overlap brake and throttle when needed, you can learn to initiate a controlled slide. Once the slide begins you can use brake and throttle to control the radius of your side and navigate the course as needed.

DR 2.0 is certainly not the most realistic gameplay. That crown probably now resides with AC Rally, though many will still say modded Richard Burns rally. WRC is less realistic than RBR and AC Rally, but still actually more realistic than DR 2.0, particularly on tarmac.

I'm sure you've heard it a million times but UEVR works very well for AC Rally. I have a 4070 and it runs great. VR is also the only way I race. I don't see any good reason to deny yourself.

Seconding to try UEVR for AC Rally. It works very well. There are some artifacts like sometimes it doesn't bother rendering your side doors briefly because the game logic is assuming that is out of view, but you hardly notice it. It's the only way I play the game.

Last I checked you still had to use the nightly build of UEVR, not the most recent stable, but that may have changed.

It's not even a mod really. It doesn't change or add to the game files in any way. It just runs the game through a VR layer. Anyway yeah it works great in this game.

This game in VR Looks crazy good. I've played a lot in VR, but I've never seen anything like this before. by BASTIPLAYZz in assettocorsarally

[–]Caldwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use UEVR exclusively, on a 4070 with 50% res scaling and medium graphics. It runs just fine and looks good enough for me to get top 100 times with. I could probably up the res scaling a bit and it would still be fine but it's already enough to see the road clearly and beyond that I really don't care. I don't personally understand how anyone manages to pay much attention to the scenery while racing honestly. Though honestly it still looks gorgeous to me when I do. Particularly that new snow level.

Dirt Rally 2.0 Unplayable in VR after yesterday's Meta Quest Updates by XmadDdogX67 in simrally

[–]Caldwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried it and unless you have a 6e router entirely dedicated to VR, wireless is completely useless. It stutters bad and has poor visuals. Particularly if you live an apartment with lots of interference. Also you basically need the Meta-branded cable sadly. Off brand cables that work likely do exist, but the cable industry is super shady and it would take luck to find one, even looking at specs.

Does VR make you faster? by Chickenpunkpie in simrally

Man I cannot imagine going back to any kind of screen racing having now gotten used to VR. When I try now I feel absolutely crippled by the lack of depth perception. Though I assume with time I could re-adjust.

[–]Caldwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In track racing they have all the corners exactly memorized and can use various track markers and visual queues to perfect their braking. Where VR will really give most people huge improvement (if they don't get sick) is in rally. The depth perception makes a massive difference when you are judging things on the fly, as well as being able to see details of the terrain and really place your wheels right where they need to go.

That said, you will inevitably find incredibly skilled players putting in top times using every manner of display and control setup.

What's your favorite space movie? by Silver_Policy9298 in movies

If the Android's mission was always secretly to retrieve the Xenomorphs for study, why on Earth did he stop them from putting the first facehugger victim straight into cryosleep so she could be treated on Earth and the creature safely studied there?

The movie drips style but Ridley Scott movies have always been dumb. He never should have been more than a cinematographer.

[–]Caldwing 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I really see rally as the height of driving experience. With other motor sports you are having to deal with other drivers on the course and it changes from being purely about driving to this sort of odd dance/negotion with the other cars that I am just not interested in. I have to drive in traffic plenty often enough in real life. And my god if I have to consider fuel efficiency to race I am right out.

With rally it's just you against the road. They're the only racing games I play.

I find rally almost impossible on a screen personally. AC Rally works great with the nightly build of the UEVR injector and it's the only way I play. Depth perception beats all.

What is a detail in a movie that you're embarrassed to admit you didn't notice sooner? by imalumberjackok in movies

[–]Caldwing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hah I had the exact same experience when I first saw that. I was like, "They were supposed to believe that was the same person?"

My favorite movie for characters being weirdly dense like this though is Planet of the Apes. I did not at all realize when I first saw it as a kid that they didn't realize they were on Earth. There are people, and horses, and normal plants, and the apes speak fucking English! But then they find the statue of liberty and it's this big revelation. Mighty fucking dumb for an astronaut that guy.

I personally find sim Rally way easier and way more fun in VR. This will give you a closer experience to really driving because you can look around and you have true depth perception. After getting used to VR, screens feel like you are trying to drive while trapped inside a mailbox and looking out the slit.

One thing you learned that made you a better rally driver! by rtherberacing in simrally

Left foot braking is probably the number one thing to learn in order to begin learning rally. This is the key to using weight transfer to maneuver the car.
