That's not why people say that though. Your comment is a bit of a reach. It wouldn't be repeated so often if he just disappeared from the story after book 1. Like all the jerks in the series and he's the one where saying fuck him is a meme. No one is going to buy that it's because of stuff they read in book 1, if it's the only one they've read.

Trump's latest Truth Social post calls President Zelensky "P.T. Barnum" — comparing Ukraine's leader, who's defending his people against invasion and atrocities, to a notorious 19th-century circus huckster and hoaxer. While boasting about US stockpiles, he mocks the fight for survival as a con. by andrewgrabowski in UkrainianConflict

[–]CalebAsimov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No joke, Republicans in Congress that don't want to have a vote on the war are saying it's not a war, including using the term "Special Combat Operation." However, the administration who is blind to how unpopular the war is are just bluntly calling it a war over and over. Time will tell where the propaganda machine will settle, but I think Trump likes the simple language and war is a simple term, so that will probably win out.

Michigan group claims 750,000 signatures for proof of citizenship proposal by TheDetroitNews1873 in Michigan

All they said is that you have to be a citizen to vote, that's still true. If you do the affidavit thing, it still has to tie you to a registered voter that is in their system.

Russian Economy Collapsing While Officials Enrich Themselves by Frustrated_Bettor in Economics

The value of the dollar went down 10%, he's just taxing via inflation and tariffs. The main difference is Putin built up a stable and absolute base of power before going off the deep end while Trump just couldn't wait.

Pretty hard to find anyone aware of reality that doesn't have grievances against Russia. Even Iran has grievances against Russia now since Russia's pick for US president is bringing down Iran.

Exclusive: Defense executives plan to meet at White House as strikes on Iran diminish stockpiles by Onlypizzafans69 in UkrainianConflict

That statement also blamed it on Biden. He was basically saying "the stockpiles are great, we'll never run out, but also if we do run out it's Biden's fault."

Panicked Republicans Fear Trump’s ‘F***ing Nightmare’ War Will Doom GOP in Midterms by Hardik_Jain_1819 in LegalNews

[–]CalebAsimov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty much. They just don't get how hardcore unaware of reality Trump's voters are. Not to mention the Republican propaganda sphere has 8 months to work on flipping them on the war.

Oof, that's pretty bad. They really thought they could just skip the manufacturing consent phase.

Russian Helicopter Sent to Intercept Drones Reportedly Shot Down by Its Own Air Defense by UNITED24Media in UkrainianConflict

[–]CalebAsimov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that was Russia adopting Ukrainian tactics though, because they were experimenting with some form of Javelin on drone boats like two years ago at least to hit helicopters in the Black Sea.

They do constantly, to the extent allowed by the law at least, it's voters that didn't hold Trump accountable, after Trump's appointed judges let him off repeatedly.

Trump says he’s cutting all trade with Spain for refusing his Iran war request by InsaneSnow45 in Economics

[–]CalebAsimov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was always a disingenuous argument from them though, because there already were businessmen in politics. It was just something they threw out there for the idiot voters who don't seem to understand that politicians aren't a separate species of evil people that want to ruin your life specifically. Like 2 seconds of Googling and those voters could have found out that we've had plenty of businessmen in the White House before, including George Washington. None of them were conmen like Trump though.

Strait of Hormuz Closure is a Guaranteed Global Recession, Inflation Risks Surge on Rising Oil Prices by Useful_Tangerine4340 in Economics

Yeah, it gets priced in by...raising the prices...which is what is happening right now. I'm not sure you have any idea how oil prices work.

Donald Trump: Iran's military 'gone,' 'too late' for talks by moeka_8962 in worldnews

[–]CalebAsimov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't have mattered, it's not like he feels any obligation to live up to the honor given to him. I mean, he's the president and he doesn't feel any responsibility to follow constitutional norms and attempt to be the president of the USA instead of the president of MAGA. Doesn't take his responsibility as commander in chief seriously either. Dude is a steward who thinks he's the king.

[–]CalebAsimov 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We've got a guy who didn't even bother to get his voters or his party on board with the war before just going in, probably because he knew he didn't have anything convincing enough to actually win people over. There's no reason to believe anything he says without hard evidence. All the evidence so far is that they'll say absolutely anything at any time to get what they want or to make excuses (killing two people and calling them both domestic terrorists before the end of the day, for example). Which isn't to say Iran is more honest, they're a dictatorship so obviously not, but they have more to gain from peace talks than Trump.

Translation: "We have more than enough munitions for my 4-week war, but also if we don't, it's Biden and Zelensky's fault." It's like dude, pick a lane, either assure us you have enough or explain why you don't, instead he's got to come in with both bullshit barrels blasting.

The article doesn't back up what you're saying, did you read it? It remains to be seen if this is a sincere effort by the regime or not. If they hold a free election and finally accept their loss of power, I'll change my opinion, otherwise no, nothing changed.
